I’m always open to being persuaded that I am or was wrong about something.  And I’m not ashamed to admit it when I believe I was wrong.  As the poet Alexander Pope (1688-1744) said No one should be ashamed to admit he is wrong, which is but saying, in other words, that he is wiser today than he was yesterday.”

@ AZLance:  Characterizing my comments “Worst and most useless post of the year!”  and saying that I’m “being part of the problem” are conclusory  statements.  Those bare conclusions, without any arguments or reasons to support them, are not persuasive.

@ trphyhntr:  You actually make my point for me.  why dont you just not click on the threads if you dont want to read it” is precisely the reason the “Non-hunting related Politics” forum exists.  I’ve never asked for a password to enter that forum because don’t want to read it because I remember the stuff that used to be posted on there before that forum existed and I’ve seen the threads that have been moved there.  The Campfire is a place for all of us and we all click away on it looking for something interesting, enlightening or funny.  The Campfire can’t be ignored.  The Non-hunting related Politics forum, on the other hand, is easy to ignore.

@ AZLance & trphyhntr:  I’ve always enjoyed your posts which include your commentary and the pictures you’ve been generous enough to share.  You’re both welcome around my campfire any time. And if either of you show up, and there’s one last beer in the cooler, it’s yours.

Maybe we can create a "safe space" forum where we censor out anything that might offend someone.   I bet it would be full of content. When I look at youtube I don't click on "shirtless men playing volley ball", because I don't want to see that. I don't tell youtube to censor it.

  2. The wife and I had the same trailer and loved it. I towed it with a jeep liberty and it did fine even on the big hills. Our families outgrew these or we would have kept them. I sold mine last yer for 12k and it had seen a lot more use. This one probably has been slept in fewer than 30 nights.

Posting for my sister. These are photos off the internet, but she can text actual pics if you are interested. Pm me for contact info.

It was an awesome morning. We had lots of birds talking even after they hit the ground.

  4. We didn't have a lot of hope this year due to my wife tearing her mcl and ACL 2 weeks before the hunt. After a miss on the first stand, we regrouped and moved about 500yds up the mountain. The box call brought this guy in strutting. He paused at 65yds and she let him have it. We were done before 630am.

Very few Chevy supporters it seems. I have a 2017 Silverado Z71, 5.3, put aftermarket shocks and larger tires on and it drives amazing around town and my beloved dirt roads of Northern AZ. I have not done much towing though, just our wakeboard boat. Is that where people feel a 1/2 ton silverado lacks? I have never owned a camp trailer but am interested in getting one in the short term. Am I in for disappointment towing with a 1/2 ton 5.3? I really don't want to go to a 3/4 ton because of how stiff they ride on dirt.

I had 2006 with the 5.3. We towed a 24ft camp trailer about 8-10 times a year with no complaints at all. We traded it in at 196k miles and never did anything other than maintenance.

  6. Lots of good advice on this thread. I have seen a lot of elk shot the last several years, and they all react different. Personally I wouldn't shoot for the shoulder with a 30-06. I have seen bullets stop on the shoulder joint twice, and not penetrate the chest. One was a 30-06 with 150gr soft point, and one was a 150gr barns from a .270. Both shots were inside 75yds. Luckily fast follow up shots killed both bulls and we were able to see what happened. I know both of those could have broke through the shoulder blade, but they hit the joint and stopped. I think with your setup behind the shoulder is a safer bet.

  7. I have helped a few people with the same issues. I like to start them off just shooting primers and then move up to shooting 25gr of powder with an empty sabot. Eventually I will have them shoot 50gr and a real bullet. I dial in the gun for the hunt and never have them shoot a full charge until the hunt.
