LOST MY BEST QUAIL HUNTING PARTNER
thegunsmith2506 replied to AZMEATHUNTER's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Sorry to hear about your hunting partner. Its amazing how much those dogs can mean to us. I lost my Lab after 13 years of hunting together. Time is the only thing that helps. -
Its good to see those 2 stickers together on more and more trucks!

+1 I also really like Sam Moore "Mountain Range" http://www.myspace.com/sammoorecountry

Nice job! We got out for a few stands, but couldn't get any into shotgun range. It was pretty cool just to be out in the snow for a little while.

one last time, price drop

I am selling my Ruger .270. It is in fair shape, and shows signs of a few hunts. It is a good shooter, and is in sound working order. It has a painted wood stock, and is missing a little paint in a few spots. It has had about 250rds through it, and shoots 1" with 130gr TSX and Grandslams. I will throw in all the bullets I have if you are a handloader. It comes with a box or 2 of factory ammo. The trigger is set at 3lbs. This is a great hunting gun, we just don't shoot it much anymore. I will sell it with or without the Leupold 3-9x40. I am also willing to consider trades. PRICE DROP> $400.00 without scope Things I would like to trade for: 800yd+ rangefinder foxpro 3.5in 12ga shotgun youth rifles optics

Welcome to the site, and Congrats on the Coati! They are cool little critters and that one looks pretty big. Are you going to have it mounted?

Spent the weekend trying to call in a bobcat. Never did get one in, but we did have some luck on a few coyote stands. Saturday morning I called in 4 on the first stand. I was able to get my first shotgun double. First shot was 15ft with HD BB's, second one took 2 rounds of 00 buck at 62yds. Total we called 7 and killed 5. Also called in a fox, but never got a shot.

I was too late to sign up for the contest. Lots of guys over there are doing pretty good this year.

I used a PM3 for the last few years. I think it is a pretty good call for the money. I paid $85.00 for mine with 3 sound cards. Its not as good as the Foxpro, but still a good call. I called a lot of coyotes and foxes with it.

Shotgun pattern testing
thegunsmith2506 replied to thegunsmith2506's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Thanks for the info... I am actually headed down there tonight to buy some more shells for this weekend. -
I went out and did a little patterning today at 61yds. After a few recent misses, I wanted to see what the new loads I am shooting are doing at 50+ yds. I had trouble finding my usual 3.5 #4 Buck this year, so I ended up with a few new loads. I did a quick 40yd pattern test before going out at the first part of the season, but I hadn't done a really good test. I made targets based on the measurments of the last several coyotes I killed. The targets aren't to scale, so the Vitals look a little long. All shots were at 61yds and from my usual sitting position. I wanted to see what my setup does under real hunting conditions. Here is what I found: SHOTGUN: Tri-Star 12ga 3.5in chamber MODS: Forcing cone reamed, Dead Coyote choke, bore polished Shotgun Load #1: Federal 2-3/4 #4 Buck 21 Pellet 6 Hits Total 3 In The Vitals Load #2: Winchester 3.5in 00 Buck 18 Pellet 7 Hits Total 6 Vitals Load #3: Federal 3in 2oz. Copper Plated BB's 19 Hits Total 14 Vital Load #4: Winchester 3.5in #4 Buck 54 Pellet 15 Hits Total 9 Vital Load #5: Federal High Density 3.5in 1-5/8Oz BB's 31 Hits Total 22 Vitals Load #6: Remington Wingmaster HD 3.5in 1-3/4oz BB's 25 Hits Total 23 Vitals

Foxpro batteries
thegunsmith2506 replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
My FoxPRO BRAND Re-chargeables last all day. We can call 13 stands with one set of batteries. -
I still have this gun for sale. I have had a few offers, just nothing I wanted. I will be down in Tucson again this next weekend, and would be willing to meet anyone around there if interested. $425.00 without the scope.

A lot of the Double barrels can't be hot blued or they will seperate. It may need to be rust blued. Be sure to ask him about it. A nice rust blue looks great on those older guns!

nice job casey! -
We went down south to visit family for a few days this past weekend. I was able to sneak away Sunday for a little coyote calling. The best part was...... My wife gave me my Christmas present early. A brand new FoxPro FX3! I went to a few of the spots I hunted as a kid, the action was awesome! We made 11 stands between 8:00am and 4:00pm. Called in 7, and killed 5. All were shotgun kills between 20 and 60 yards. We used: Remington Wingmaster HD BB Loads, Heavy Shot B Loads, Winchester #4 Buck. The #4 Buck was by far the best load we tried. I can't wait to get back down there for another trip! this was my buddies first coyote
