    Shotgun pattern testing

I went out and did a little patterning today at 61yds. After a few recent misses, I wanted to see what the new loads I am shooting are doing at 50+ yds. I had trouble finding my usual 3.5 #4 Buck this year, so I ended up with a few new loads. I did a quick 40yd pattern test before going out at the first part of the season, but I hadn't done a really good test. I made targets based on the measurments of the last several coyotes I killed. The targets aren't to scale, so the Vitals look a little long. All shots were at 61yds and from my usual sitting position. I wanted to see what my setup does under real hunting conditions. Here is what I found: SHOTGUN: Tri-Star 12ga 3.5in chamber MODS: Forcing cone reamed, Dead Coyote choke, bore polished Shotgun Load #1: Federal 2-3/4 #4 Buck 21 Pellet 6 Hits Total 3 In The Vitals Load #2: Winchester 3.5in 00 Buck 18 Pellet 7 Hits Total 6 Vitals Load #3: Federal 3in 2oz. Copper Plated BB's 19 Hits Total 14 Vital Load #4: Winchester 3.5in #4 Buck 54 Pellet 15 Hits Total 9 Vital Load #5: Federal High Density 3.5in 1-5/8Oz BB's 31 Hits Total 22 Vitals Load #6: Remington Wingmaster HD 3.5in 1-3/4oz BB's 25 Hits Total 23 Vitals

    blue

A lot of the Double barrels can't be hot blued or they will seperate. It may need to be rust blued. Be sure to ask him about it. A nice rust blue looks great on those older guns!

    A good day of calling

We went down south to visit family for a few days this past weekend. I was able to sneak away Sunday for a little coyote calling. The best part was...... My wife gave me my Christmas present early. A brand new FoxPro FX3! I went to a few of the spots I hunted as a kid, the action was awesome! We made 11 stands between 8:00am and 4:00pm. Called in 7, and killed 5. All were shotgun kills between 20 and 60 yards. We used: Remington Wingmaster HD BB Loads, Heavy Shot B Loads, Winchester #4 Buck. The #4 Buck was by far the best load we tried. I can't wait to get back down there for another trip! this was my buddies first coyote

    First stand of 2010

Made a few stands after pig hunting in the mornings. This guy came in at the 14min mark. I watched him sit and look at the decoy for a few minutes before I shot him. The shot was 30yds with Remington Wingmaster HD BB's.

    A good day of calling

I just like calling them in close. I have a hard time shooting running coyotes with a rifle, so I take a shotgun. Sometimes they hang up out of range, but not too often. Its a lot more fun shooting them at 20ft instead of 200yds.

    Last stand of 09

Well after seeing that cat that Josh killed, I decided to go try for one myself. About 3 min into my first stand I saw 2 coyotes headed in from about 500yds out. I was gonna pass on them just like Josh did, but this female tried to steal my rabbit decoy. So.... I shot her at 15yds. The wingmaster HD BB's did the trick. It was a good way to end the year!

White Ford on I-10 south of Benson

Saw a white Ford on I-10 Saturday morning. Had a small sticker in the back window.
  21. Had another great day of calling! We hunted all day and called a total of 11 dogs. This was by far my best day of calling ever, and my worst day of shooting. We had a really hard time with swirling winds. On several stands we had dogs running in fast. The wind would switch, and they would take off! We both missed 2 dogs, and 4 got away without a shot. All were shotgun kills between 10 and 51 yards. All these were shot with Wingmaster HD BB's. I think its funny how many 60lb coyotes I hear about in AZ. We shot the biggest coyote I have ever killed, he was 37lbs on the fish scale. Picture was taken from my stand location:

Thats awesome! I need to get back into some cat country and try to call one in with the new foxpro. I just can't bring myself to pass on the foxes and yotes. Nice job and great pics!
