We use the metal 1 gallon cans for our chainsaw fuel. We buy a gallon of pre mix fuel and then refill the cans.

Would you take a .223 for your wife?
thegunsmith2506 replied to Ingo's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Yes. He was quartering to me a little bit. All 3 bullets were in the chest cavity. He never even flinched until the 3rd shot. -
Why both? Is it because you just like to look at a map or is there a real advantage?

I have shot 7 deer with a .223. The Barnes is by far the best bullet I used, The last deer I shot was at 300yds, I hit him 3 times in the lungs and none of the bullets exited. He went 150yds before he died. I only used it because it was the only rifle I had growing up. It wouldn't be my first choice especially since you have other options. -

Long Range Fixed Blade Field Point Accuracy
thegunsmith2506 replied to Coues Archer's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I know this is a little off topic, but I think its still good info. When I was a kid growing up in Willcox me and a buddy use to shoot at a range just out of town. One day we met a few guys there and they saw us shooting 12in groups at 30yds and came over to offer some advice. They were really nice guys and spent about an hour helping us set up our bows and giving a few tips. We didn't even have knocking points and we were shooting fingers. In a short time we were shooting 6in groups at 30yds. When we were done one of the guys gave us both a couple of broadheads and told us he owned the company that makes them and to stop by his shop in town. The broadheads were Vortex brand and we used the heck out of them. So all that to get to my point. This was in the late 90's and these guys were shooting 100+ yards with these broadheads. One day in the shop they showed us that they would take some heavy duty snips and cut the blades so that just a 1/16th of an inch stuck out when they were closed. They said it really improved the long range accuracy. I killed my first deer with one a year later and it worked well. I switched to Rockets when I drew an elk tag a few years later. I think Creed was spot on with his comments on little to no blade surface being exposed. I didn't draw a deer this year and I am out of broadheads so this has been an interesting thread. I am thinking I might try out the new Vortex steel to see how they shoot. I don't practice enough to shoot much past 50yds anymore so really long range isn't an issue for me. Thanks for all the info! https://vortexbroadheads.com/collections/broadheads/products/vortex-100gr-2-00-steel -
I have seen this plenty of times. They dial for a shot at 600yds don't take the shot, and forget to re set zero and miss a 200yd shot.

If it were you??? Caliber question
thegunsmith2506 replied to sjvcon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Personally I would do a .300wsm. My wife has one and its killed everything from Javalina to Buffalo. Its a great round with lots of factory ammo options. -
Thats a fun hunt

Long Range Fixed Blade Field Point Accuracy
thegunsmith2506 replied to Coues Archer's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I have killed 3 elk with them 2 cows and a bull. On both of the cows I hit the shoulder blade and still got a pass through. Both shots were under 30yds. The bull was 54yds and a frontal shot. All 3 died within 25yds -

Rocket Ultimate steel is a pretty compact broadhead. They have always worked well for me but I have never shot them over 60yds and I don't tune my arrows. I heard a podcast a while back with John Dudley and he said the NAP Killzone was the best broadhead he had ever shot, but its not a fixed blade. -
its 2020.... im not surprised

I think that sums it up pretty well. I use to live in the city and visit the woods. Now I live in the woods I use to visit. Driving around the woods its hard to see all the trash and the fires left burning, but the I realized the huge pile of trash wasn't hauled up from Phoenix and the last fire was started by some neighbors welding. We are surrounded by idiots.

12 Lab puppies
thegunsmith2506 replied to Couzer's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Are they considered silvers? We had a silver lab for 10 years. He was a good looking lab -
Because its all political. Check out the guy that wrote what outdoor writer posted. I wouldn't call him an expert.

Even the CDC said they don't really work.

Pretty smart dude though.... Give me some of your money and I will teach how to not spend it. He got rich off of poor people. -
I think a lot of the younger people could have other health related issues and not even know it. Most of the guys I know my age won't even go to the Dr until something is seriously wrong. But who knows...

Which Unit should I choose? Thinking 17a or 19a
thegunsmith2506 replied to PhxDT's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
We have hunted 19a a lot. We had tags in 2018 and it was a zoo. We had a hard time getting away from the crowds, but we saw deer everywhere. Good luck on the draw! -

We have an 1800sqft house with a 5 ton A/c unit in northern AZ. My wife likes to keep the windows open all day until it starts to get hot and then shut everything and turn on the AC to cool the house off in the afternoon. The A/c will usually freeze up within 20min of turning it on. The unit is only 4 years old and probably only gets used for a couple of months a year. We had the company that installed it come out and check everything and they said it looked fine but left before it froze up. The little reading we did online lead us to believe that the unit might be too big for this size of house. Also, our outside temp almost never gets above 90deg. Do any of you HVAC guys have any suggestions on what it might be?

I had a pair of the Vaprtrek boots. They were very comfortable, but didn't even make it 5 days of hiking and they were trashed. The sole was worn through and the mesh was shredded.
