way to put it down! Congrats

I know that this thread is more of just a yes or no question but I used to not care too much about hunter orange during my seasons. Then a few years ago a friend of mine was hit pretty good with #4 shot from another turkey hunter.....true story Needless to say I ALWAYS have orange on (even if it is just a hat) during a gun hunt, the same goes for the kiddo's

Ya let me know what you hear. From all the opinons I had read elsewhere most people lean toward the Alpine or Olberhasis or a mixbreed of the two. Now if I can train them to sniff out a trail like a blood hound then I would have not desire for a dog haha
-
Hey Vowell (or anyone) do you know where you can purchase any of these or what breeds are prefered over others? The internet gives info but I would like someones opinon who has used/been around them.

GBA- Glad you asked this question. I like to think of myself as an experienced hunter (experience and success or 2 different things for me haha) but I had no idea people use goats for packing gear/animals in & out. Maybe its because we have always been around horses/mules but after doing some research these things are awesome!! I am always worried about a horse twisting its ankle, being gun shy or having suffienct water but these little billies that I have been reading about are just the coolest thing! My wife and I were talking about buying up a kid or two for our children to raise...I think you gave me the perfect excuse. Great info guys!

I prefer to connect with nature. I don't cook them at all, just eat everything raw. Everybodys doing it these days.

Props to you brother! Not sure we all didn't get an invite?! jk Congrats!

Feel free to ask questions. Its negative comments like those above that could give newer members a bad impression of the website. Don't judge it based upon his words. 20C can produce some good animals. I like the northeast section of the unit but as mentioned previously there are some access issues. Depending on the time of year water sources can prove more critical than others. I'd stay east of the of the 89 and north of the hassayampa river if possible but there is a lot of private land right there so be sure you know where you stand. Good luck to you!

Great job and congrats. How cool to have 3 generations to share your hunt!

That first picture is a beautiful buck....he'd make a great mount on your wall. Good luck!

That is just awesome! Congrats to you and your daughter! I know it has been a bit tough in that unit for the Jr. hunters so I am happy that she tagged out...sounds like you have a great huntin' buddy!

On the phone with my little cousin all day giving them suggestions on where to go.....I am hoping she connects today. Said she saw 15 mulies (3 nice bucks) and 1 bear yesterday. Said on their drive back to camp they had to stop on the highway before they hit 5 cow elk crossing the road (it was well past shooting hours).....what a heart break!

Congrats on your B-day and thanks for providing us with this website. Hope this year is even better than the last for you!

Getting turned around is never an enjoyable experience. Glad you and your father made it back. I don't know about you though but even if I was not looking for someone I would still stop and investigate if I heard someone yelling help!? Those guys in your story are idiots for not stopping and helping you both out. Good thing your situation was not more dire.

Actually both paragraphs can raise eyebrows. The first one can legally justify a ticket or citation to hunting in a blind or stand over a waterhole.."The rule is amended to prohibit an individual from placing any substance, DEVICE, or object in, on, or near a water source to intentionally restrict wildlife from using the water source to ensure wildlife have adequate access to water sources" Again, though its just my opinon...no reason to get crazy over it.

Went out with the family yesterday afternoon to help my cousins on their youth hunt, scout for my upcoming hunt and just spend some quality time with the family. It was an interesting trip having all the kids in the car with my wife and I while scouting but we were able to call in some elk. I tried to help my little cousin seal the deal (she doesn't have a father figure in her life) however they chose to go that evening with a friend of a friend who is a "guide." Is it just me or is the term "Guide" becoming a very loose term these days haha???? He seemed like a nice guy but I was a bit put off by his arrogant attitude. Sadly to say they did not see a single thing yesterday. Here are some picture of what we saw on our way out. The pictures aren't very good though. We saw a total of 7 cows and 1 bull and helped a father and son down a cow just before sun down (my wife has now caught the "elk huntin' bug!). The cow in the middle is the one they took....but my wife's camera battery died shortly thereafter so no more pics. It is soooo much fun sharing all this with the wife and kids!!!!

I could not be happier for you both! Congrats on the memories, time and great buck!

sounds like a great hunt. glad you go to share that with your father.

I am no expert but just got back from that area again and Mormon Mt. is not producing the elk movement that I have seen in the past around the mountain itself. They are certainly there and I have heard them bugling but I think all the camping ect have pushed them pretty good already. I had to get off the beaten path a good distance before I was in a bunch and they were rutting pretty good all day.

My little cousins sent this picture to me about 20 min. ago this morning. Said it rained all night and now it is snowing. They are on their jr. elk hunt. Good luck everyone!
-
Yes there is not much up there. Plus its supposed to warm up another 10 degrees again next week. Doubt even a heavy drop would be able to stick around. I'll be up there again tomorrow....probably just going to be muddy. Hopefully this kicks the bulls into full gear though!

So great to see! What a great buck and great memory! Congrats

BTW the Washington Post is reporting Romney picked up a 7pt lead now in Florida based upon their new polling....I bet they hated writing that haha

This is what really annoyes me. You look on every news outlet and they say that it was a split or that it did neither good nor bad for either campaign. Further more everyone admits that Biden was an jerk the entire debate........ Then you go to NBC and this is their take (I copied it from MSNBC) "Biden won the debate, but it was a qualified victory. He energized Democrats who had been down in the dumps since the president’s supine performance, but he also energized Republicans who found him rude and dishonest. Swing voters might have been turned off, too. But it probably doesn’t matter since they’re going to vote for the top of the ticket." No wonder NBC is tanking as a network....when you have crap like this that is being reported. I hope they tank completly.
