    Another noob with questions

Sounds like you are ready to go! Rifle preferences are like food....everyone has an opinion however for what you are doing that rifle is MORE than enough. Get yourself a tripod and just prepare to glass. As mentioned before scouting is key.

    unit one wolf

This is on AZ Central- Aug 20, 2013 1:16 PM Authorities say a Mexican gray wolf has died in east-central Arizona’s Apache Sitgreaves National Forest. Arizona Game and Fish officials say a field team was trying to fit radio-telemetry collars on some Bluestem Pack wolves last weekend. One female yearling was caught in a padded foot trap and moved into rocky terrain on the edge of a slope. By the time crews could get to the wolf, it was no longer breathing and couldn’t be revived. Authorities say it’s only the third such capture-related death in the 15-year history of the Mexican wolf reintroduction project in Arizona and New Mexico. The Mexican gray wolf was added to the federal endangered species list in 1976 after it was nearly wiped out by government trapping and poisoning designed to help cattle ranchers.

    Another noob with questions

Welcome! There are hundreds of websites however if you are hunting AZ Coues whitetail you will be hard pressed to find a site with more resource information than this one. Its never to late to become a hunter, what unit did you get drawn for? Click on the magnifying glass at the top right of the screen and type in the different topics you have questions about such as equipment, clothing, glassing, caring for the animal etc. For most Coues hunters it a matter of getting deep in the unit, sitting behind your binoculars and glassing, glassing & more glassing. The latter end of the fall season tends to be more dry (even more than usual) so get a good Forest Service map and locate your water sources. Let us know what unit you got drawn for and when? What gun do you plan to use? What equipment you already have etc?

    Hybrid?

I was just thinking that lol

    Hybrid?

Hard to tell....they all look like mulies to me. That Hockey player is defiantly a hybrid though...they inherently have such few teeth.

Big buck contest, scoring on a curve...

It's a good idea. On my wife's side of the family we all have a $10 buy in for coues. Whoever tags the first buck gets the pot. Whiles it's not about size its still fun and pays for the trip. I am hoping this year I win it haha.
  9. Unless there is a ton of standing water I would still hit your water hole. However, i would glass if there is some open country in the general area. I have always had more encounters with deer by glassing them and stalking them. Water is just hit and miss when there is a lot of rain. Besides 1/2 the campers in the state set up shop in the unit this time of year. They can keep the animals moving.

    Acorns?

Those are actually baby pine-cones....its a common mistake. Jk bears and deer will be ALL over those when they begin to ripen.....especially deer

+1 I motion that from now on a newbie with less than 5 posts must submit their current fat to muscle ratio, workout regiment, diet plan, blood type and any prior convictions before information is shared. Or before they receive Obamacare whichever comes first. jk but on a serious note chronic laziness and mosquitoes are the same- they both suck.

I agree with both sides of the argument to a point. Some people just get too worked up over it. No one is forcing anyone to give up info. If you're that worried about "you're secret spot" being discovered then don't hunt public land. I am willing to bet that most individuals who are "just getting into hunting" really wouldn't expect that asking for info/help would be rude. If you don't want to share then don't, if you can- then welcome to the club. You're the only one who loses if your blood pressure goes up. (I mean that generally- not at anyone in particular) Having said that, READ AZG&F FIRST it's step up to help first time hunters. A big shout out to all of you who have helped me!

    Couple A Bucks

+1 on all counts. Great first post! +1 to his +1
  18. Got my bow tuned, arrows tip'd, clothes are scent free, game bags are tucked in, knife is sharp, pack is organized and cinched, tag is signed, license in the wallet, truck is dirty, wife is feelin' lonely because my heart is pumping for another..... Is it too early for a role call for the AZ bow hunters? It's as though the older I get the less mature I am about handling the anticipation for bow season. Opening day can't come soon enough!!!

    USO preparing for the hunt?

Ever watched "Americas Dumbest Criminals?" I don't know if this is true but I really hope not.....I wouldn't put it past them though
  20. +1 it really dosent slow your arrow enough to make a DRAMATIC difference. Yes, there are some other rests that offer a little less resistance and a little more accuracy. Personally I don't shoot over 70 yards. At least not accurately so I have never had to worry about my biscuit. Plus they are 1/2 the price of others. Mine is a couple years old and I have shot many times through it. I will get a newer one next year...maybe

Tree Stand or Ground Blind (for new hunter)

Just put him in a ground blind and tell him if he leaves the bear will get him. Meanwhile you go hunt. Worked for my dad every time jk I would suggest ground blind though for a first timer, or even just spot and stalking...depends on if your buddy had issues sitting still for 12 hours at a time.

Too early for a role call??

My wife saw me sittin on the couch tonight and said "I'm surprised your not looking at a map or messing with your bow." She was right, after a long day at work I had lost focus already. Complacency is for the weak so I unpacked and repacked my gear. Who knew that all the times she told me "you're obsessed with hunting" or I have "mixed up priorities"...she was really saying I love you. Who said marriage is boring? Hahah. 9 more days!!!!
