Arizona or New Mexico for elk and mule deer

Arizona is the best state in the d--- US. You wont find better hunting opportunities for quality animals in any other state. Although the elk is a lottery process, with the amount of scouting time you can put in, you can easily meet your elk goal and not have to wait to long to do it. The over the counter tags for archery deer produce some high quality trophys for both coues and mulie all across the state. I see you didn't mention COUES in your title....you're forgiven. Do yourself a favor a choose AZ. Welcome to the forum.

    Drones

So based upon the reg. that str8tshot put up its NOT illegal for scouting unless a G&f office deems it is. That being said- The drones I have seen are loud. How can you use these for scouting without scarring the game off? i have been 100's of yards away and have spooked them.

This is like watching one of those hunting shows on the sportsmans channel but without all the stupid rock music and stalks that you know are fake.

    Rocky Mtn. bighorns at Greer

Live it up while you can. The wolf pack on the west side of Greer will be thinning them out soon I'm sure.

    who bowhunts the back country?

Navajo legend of shape shifters. Google it. I am not superstitious but when you've been hiking up and down mountains for days and your tired....your mind plays tricks. Good friend of mine if navajo and lives on the rez. They swear by it.

    who bowhunts the back country?

Be careful. Skinwalkers all over that area, they get especially bad at night.

    Clothing prejudice

No amount of camo makes up for poor hunting skills. Hats off to the guys who make a fortune off of suckers. Who is the member on here who was posting pics of his bow kills while where a grey shirt and cargo shorts? Think it was on the rez maybe? that guy is a perfect example of skill vs. trend lol

who is excited for deer already?

I went fishing at Lee's one time on a 3 day trip. My flies all fell apart because of all the fish we were catching. Such a fun place. I am looking at the Oct rifles and possibly the archery. I have spent more time in east unit but I just want to get drawn. It's been so many years since I have been up there that I just want to go- don't care which side at this point I have 5pts now for deer. Hopefully I have a fighting chance. My fathers health is declining as well so I'd like to get him up there too and build at least one trip of memories with my kids in case something happens with him. What about you?

who is excited for deer already?

Chewy15 Thanks for sharing. Back before it was draw only my father and grandfather and I would go there a couple times a year to camp and hunt and I remember it was so much fun just to drive up and down those dirt roads just to see all the deer. I think Kiabab holds a special place in every hunters heart. It's just such a fun place. My uncle (lived in St. George for years) claims that he found an inlet in rock that was full of pottery when he was a teenager. Out of respect he left it undisturbed and told the forest service. He has been back MANY times and like montezumas treasure he has never been able to find the spot again.
