There is no hunt like kiabab (i say that more to myself) +1 You'll find a 4x4 as long as you say active behind your glass and on your boots and don't go back to camp to sleep of the afternoon lol Wish I was back up there
-
when you skinned him was his shoulders pretty beat up? My father dropped an old bull years ago (broken like yours too) and he had holes that looked like bullet holes in his shoulder from fighting. Just curious

I'd say the unit 12 doe hunt is the easiest youth hunt in the state. Easy being a comparative term. It is an AWESOME way to just get some experience under the belt and have a high rate of success. oops broke my own rule- well now its out there guys....there are lots of does in 12A. I better not see all of you applying for the youth doe hunts up there.

Great job. He was certainly an older bull. I love when they get that signature crown up front. Congrats on your bull!! Your boy looks happier about it than you

Hey 6Anut since no one can figure out what unit we hunt I say when our little ones get old enough to youth hunt- HUNT Party at your family's CABIN! I'll bring the Disney JR haha

But back to the kids, What hunt do you want them to have, a hunt where they see almost no deer at all and the success rate is 20% at best?? That's not doing much for are future hunters IMO, I would have no problem if for one year all they allowed to hunt in 6A was kids. So you are saying the retention of future hunters is based off of success? I do not buy that at all and from what I have researched there is no evidence to prove that it does. There are enough Small game and Big game opportunities to hook, grow and retain future hunters without the youth Hunts for Deer and Elk. Part of the learning curve of any angling or hunting is the lesson in humility and understanding that there are no guarantees. Youth hunts are the equivalency of Giving all Kids who participate in a sport a trophy just so they stay interested, IMO, and that IMO is a bad habit. How many hunters do you talk to that say they got hooked on hunting because they were unsuccessful- Its rhetorical so don't tell me you know A LOT I say let the kids have some TROPHY'S, I can't even tag out on spikes most of the time so it wont effect my success. No they MAY not appreciate it as much as an adult who has been after the same trophy spending 1000's of dollars and years in the field but who cares. Its the adults who are doing the majority of the work anyway- packing, driving, spending $$$, glassing, packing out etc. I would LOVE to see and PAY $$$ to see my kid tag a big animal. I LOVE seeing kids tag ANYTHING.

I could not disagree more. The unit your talking about is in the middle of a 15year rebound. I too have been hunting this unit for 20years. The last few years I have seen more bucks than ever before.. Even with the youth rut tags the success rate is still very low. The mule deer foundation is doing a giant water project this weekend. I think this unit will only get better. Plus most people either complain about access and/or road hunt. Both drive the deer sighing and success rate into to tank. What better way to intro kids to hunting that letting them hunt with perfect weather and loads of deer running amuck. OH that's the unit you were alluding too. Well I am putting in for that unit next year

My boss has moved and wants This stuff gone. $500 obo for all the pots and picture. The large pots alone are worth 3-400.00 but he just wants those out of his office. Posting these individually on Craigslist but figured I would throw a deal to everyone here. Great home peices or resell them. Let me know if you're interested. Located in east valley US60/Power and as you can imagine shipping is out of the question. Mirrors are $150 & $100 a peice

great job. Thanks for sharing with us. seriously- this year has been light on the reports of animals on the ground.
-
I generally don't mind sharing however- what used to be a honey hole for me has completely changed once I helped some hunters fill their tags because there kids were with them. There are 2x as many people in this little area and 1/2 as many deer now. The deer are also about a 1/2 mile farther in to avoid the people. I have had cams up in this place for close to 7 years now and 4 years ago is when I helped a couple of guys- since then it has ALL changed. It can make a difference.

Got in incontact with a guy who had done it back east. Said 8 years and his whitetail hasn't changed. The salt kills the bacteria and neutralizes the enzymes. Shouldn't change much

sweet pics. Love that non typical you got on cam.

Bokangles: they would be my absolute first choice for an elk hunt. I have yet to punch an elk with them yet but I have been calling for family/friends that have and the entrance/exit holes are unreal. You would think they would be small but have not seen an animal drop with less than a 5-6" entrance hole. My quartering shot in Kiabab looked like I had put a sword in it. The skin just tears open like a zipper. My fixed blades are just my back ups. In full disclosure I do have have to switch the blades often due to bending on bone but the blades are still razor sharp and I have yet to replace a ferrule or tip. I have been nothing but impressed with their performance. I will never hunt elk with anything else. Order some replacements blades ahead of time.

Try and have a few different options and backup plans. Control Rd will turn into a highway as soon as the hunt starts.

I'd have to agree with the above meantioned, even your off brand bows that are made by the bigger manufacturers will be good and can produce sufficient kinetic energy even at lower poundage. Before he got out of compound bow hunting my father was in the same situation- we found the off brands were every bit as good as the higher ends one at lower poundage as long as he kept his shots at 50 yards or under. (And it saved him a ton of $$$ 2 years ago I tried/paid for more broadheads than I care to admit to decide for myself. (Yes you can kill with a rock as long as the shot placement is right but these are just my suggestions) My suggestions: Mechanical- hands down swhacker 2 blade. Only slightly more durable than every other mechanical (not enough to care about) but NEVER failed on impact or through bone. Yes they can bend like others but they Always preform. My last Kiabab hunt it literally cut an entire shoulder roast at a quarter shot. Deer never ran. Fixed: many of your popular brands are good and it's just personal preference. And will fly like feild points as long as you aren't making really far shots and the bow is properly tuned. I opted for muzzy's because I could get so many as a cheap price on Amazon.

I got an 82" on my wall. He'll break 100" I'd agree with 105-110

North side facing hills near consistent water sources with a good pair of binos. Unit 22 is one of the most easily accessed units in the state due to the highway so just find the above mentioned and glass them all and you will find animals and other hunters. Its vague but honestly it will work.

Wow sounds like a heck of a trip thanks for sharing with us. Felt like I was along for the hunt

What shooting distance are you going to be focusing on? I am looking to upgrade scopes as well. I would love to afford a nightforce or swaro but I dont know anyone who really complains about the leupold
-
In case some of you have forgotten there is an unwritten CWT rule that if you get drawn you owe the rest of us pics.....lets see those elk! Anyone else slowing dying at their jobs because they know at this moment 1000's are listening to elk bugle as they try to close the distance?!

Thanks for sharing and great bull. I'll take character over size 90% of the time. Glad you tagged out

way to get it done boys!

I never go anywhere without it. It's worth it to buy a full spool from a supply co. You'll be glad you did
