    Spring Hunts

In my experience the biggest difference with the hunts is the location of the birds. The early hunt most are still lower and toward the end of the hunts more birds are in their summer areas.

    Returned tags?

That was my understanding of the program as well. G&F keep the money and the Tag in return for the points.

    Hiking/shooting stick?

Just bought the latest model primos trigger stick bipod for my father- for the same reasons. He had tried it out at sportsmanship and asked that I order it with my amazon account. I was against it because I had handled them before however, I was impressed by how much metal is on these. The latest ones are actually heavy duty and even more so in the bi-pod model. My father is doing limited hiking unlike yourself it sounds but I would suggest you go in store and try handling the bipod model. It's working for dad plus it has the shooting rest and we locked it into position for his shooting height. Something to consider. If you want to go traditional find a peice of iron wood, notch the top, sand, finish and leather bind where you'll be holding it and your done.

    Bye Bye Cabelas

Bass Pro has a nice store- cabelas is better. Bass Pro sales suck- Black Friday especially is a joke. There are only a couple of guy I actually trust to give knowledgeable advice in their dept. at Bass Pro everyone else is either understaffed or just doesn't care. Cabelas has always been better than Bass Pro in my opinion.
  12. The units always open until the following Wednesday. Great job tagging out. Annoyed I won't be able to get out there in time but hey, better crop for next hunt.

    Unit 22

Your looking to hunt one of the hardest animals in the most easily accessed unit in the state with hundreds of other hunters plus all the hippies out there. If you really don't have a game plan you need to read the gf info and make a decision. The cedars toward fossil creek and ANYTHING close to control road will have tons of hunters all over. My suggestion would be is get some top quality high powered bino and find an open hill top and glass up a buck once it's been chased off by the roadies and drop it in its bed. The farther north east you travel on foot away from the roads the better chance you'll have. They've already been chased by the archery guys and by the quads every weekend. Find a dark hillside and away from the roads and you'all find something. Good luck, hope you tag out

    what unit?

This thread is the perfect example of why hunters don't share info.

    5A rifle coues advice?

The numbers are pretty low. The cedars are your best bet but like it says on the AZGF website they are throughout the unit. The biggest whitetail I have ever seen was literally on the edge of the rim off the 300rd 15 years ago. if your hunt is 5ab then you would be better off hunting the transition canyons in 5bn- if whitetail are really your goal. I would drop the first buck I see though. Thats just me. If size is not a issue you should have a great hunt. It's been a great dawn drop the past couple seasons.

Where to take my little boys fishing around Payson?

Tonto creek is always my first choice. It can be fished out quick but it's safe and you can catch your limit within an hour of it's been stocked that week.

If any of you have an iphone open a text and type in kim kardashian and see what it autocorrects too.....its hilarious unless they removed it. It will only happen once btw

    Taxiderny thiefs caught in prescott

Let us know know how it turns out. Would love to hear people get their trophies back
  20. It can be annoying but in my experience if you can locate them it's easier to to stalk them because rain masks some sent and also make it quieter for walking.

    Used borax to preserve Velvet

We are obviously all past the velvet season but I figured I would post this up in case any of you considered it in the future. 2 1/2 days after I put this buck down I bought a storage tub from Walmart and put my antlers in it with borax and some salt. Turned out decent. Sprayed them with some Lysol when I pulled them out and brushed them off. They have been good and no odor ever since. My brother stripped his antlers and stained them with shoe polish. I'll probably do that next time it's just fun to remember them as they were when I shot it. In all I spent $14.

    what unit?

didn't you say you were?? Right after you wanted to take away christmas, hanuka and the tooth fairy from all children. JK I see both sides of the argument. I don't think dropping a TROPHY pertains to hunter retention but do believe tagging out can. Personally, I got my first muley in kiabab when I was 14. I always loved hunting with my dad before that but was HOOKED from that point. I felt the rush. On a side note I had never actually been with my dad when he tagged out until I was 18....I think I was the problem hahaha
