.308nut is not talking about just hunting rifles. He has put more rounds downrange than most could ever dream of. When he speaks, one should listen, it is not based on opinion, it is based on experience. You trying to argue with him is quite comical to say the least.

I'll take the woodland camo

The bear will be a bit tough for them to pull back at 4 and 5. Not impossible, just very tough. My son had one st that age. I would go with the kids longbow or recurve first so they can pull it back easier and at least get to shoot.

+1 amax over berger

3rd gen shooting supply and brunos have been getting it in regularly. They had hundreds of lbs of it the other day

No crimp needed.

I didnt like my vortex because the ranges were inconsistant, very slow to report the reading, the shape made it hard to tell if it was forward or backward when reaching for it blindly as you are watching a deer. At times i would bring it up and be looking through the wrong end. I fixed that problem but it still bugged me. Also the furthest i could get it to read was. 600 yds and that was a big rock not even an animal.
-
That sucks. Just looked that up and you are correct. No angle comp under 100 yds on the new 1600-b. thats why i bought it but guess i should have waited and got the new leica 1000-r which does angle comp from 10-600 yds. Frikkin leica how hard is it to make one rangefinder that does it all.
-
dang a lot of lost adapters. Lol! Now you got me wanting to go check if i have mine
-
Try to find a leica 1600. They are pricier but i sold one on here a year or so ago for 550. They are quite a bit better than any other rangefinder out there. I had the vortex and it was just ok. It is slow to read and i got inconsistant readings up close. Farthest i ever ranged anything was 600. I ranged a large rock at 1982 with my current leica 1600-b.

Or just get a better scope with more adjustment.
-
Vortex viper hs, swfa 10x42 ss, swfa 3.5-15x42, All three will be fine for your needs and then some. If you want to shoot 900 or more, make sure the scope you get has enough adjustment to get there. Some scopes that seem like a good value might not have enough adjustment. Nikon, zeiss conquest, etc. the scopes i listed are 30mm tubes and have good adjustment ranges. The 1" tubes might not have enough adjustment for the most part, which is the nikon line, zeiss conquest line, etc.

Anyone have any .17 hmr ammo or know of anyone around that has any in stock? I live in east valley. Wanting to take my son out shooting tuesday and realized i dont have any .17 hmr ammo and barely and. 22 ammo left. Willing to buy or trade someone for some ammo. I would trade some .40 cal for .17

Nice! I like my 17 HMR for the same thing. My HMR has killed quite a few critters over the years.- 3 replies

Sendero Stock Trigger vs Timney vs Shilen
AverageJoe replied to rossislider's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I hated the xmark pro on my sendero. Took it off and installed a fully adjustable remington trigger (old style) which i like more than the timney. If you have the xmark pro (the one that has the allen head sticking out of the trigger) i would remove it and go with timney. I have no experience with a shilen. -
Forgot to add, south shore hardly gets any rain, north shore gets 86" of rain a year. Depending on what you like that might help your decision making. The center of kauai is the wettest spot on earth. Gets 500" of rain a year. Its a peak and you can drive to it and walk partially up it. We did and talk about humid. Lol

I went to kauai for our anniversary/honeymoon a few years ago. Awesome time! We were there for 5 days which was plenty to see most everything on the island. Things we saw which were cool were; 1.Waimea canyon, basically the grand canyon but prettier 2. Wailua river tour, takes you to fern grotto and a very nice boat tour. 3. If you like coffee, visit kauai coffee plantation on the south shore. Very good and fresh coffee 4. Hanalei Bay, north shore. Awesome Burger joint on main st, beautiful waterfalls as you eat, cool beach cove to check out afterwards. 5. From Waimea canyon coninue up the hill and you will come to a parking lot. Take the hike up the hill and it lets you look out over the famous Napali clifffs. Breathtaking views Places to eat; 1. The Beach House which is simply amazing but is also about $120 meal for two. Located on south shore Kauai 2. Cant remember the name but that burger place in Hanalei was one of my favorites just due to the scenery while eating on the porch. 3. PlEnty of small cafe's here and there or even fast food in Lihue if you want a quick bite to eat while on the go. 4. On the way to Waimea Canyon you will pass a great little cafe on the left. You cant miss it The south shore has kind of a strip mall that has shopping, eating, etc but is setup very touristy and kind of cool looking. The north shore is more of the high end homeowners etc, gets much more rain than the south shore, and is very pretty compared to south shore. More of the jurassic park look. You can drive from one end of the island to the other in under an hour. There is only one highway that goes from north to south side. I could go on forever but thats probably enough for now. Have fun and dont forget to relax. Lol

Buy a new barrel or buy a new gun?
AverageJoe replied to 123456's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
123456 if you do end up sticking with the rem 700 and want a stock from a sendero, i have one i would sell you for $200. It has been bedded for my sendero but i am wanting to change stocks. It is the black with webbing hs precision w/ palm swell. -
Buy a new barrel or buy a new gun?
AverageJoe replied to 123456's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
A sendero is still just a rem 700 with nothing special other than a hs precision stock and polished reciever. If he already has a rem 700 adding a custom barrel in his desired contour would give him a better shooting gun and better piece of mind knowing he added the barrel of his choice in the contour, length, fluting of his choice. -

Sell the weatherby, use the money to buy a new barrel for the remmy.
