Tissue Resistance to Arrow Penetration
AverageJoe replied to JACK's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Having read your comments here and in the previous thread on fast rigs, it seems pretty obvious that you're trolling, but that's ok, i'll bite. have you ever actually killed or even seen an animal killed by an arrow? Do you know anything at all beyond internet bs, say frompractical experience? Ive killed quite a few animals with arrows that were middle weight at medium speeds. These guys are nowshooting arrows that are the same weight or heavier, plus about 30-40 fps from my 6 year old bow. Thats a ton more energy than needed. These 'fast flat' arrows you continue to harp on have way more than whats needed. If it makes you feel better to lob 1000 grain cedar logs at 150 fps, knock yourself out, but dont be stupid enough to think every single other person with a bow is misguided and you're the only one that has it right. Kids and ladies kill elk with 250 grain arrows off of 40 lb bows all the time. You put one in the right spot, it doesn't take much to get lungs. Period. Buh-bye. Well stated and true -
Steve can you chime in here as to why the az elk society is part of this?

Tissue Resistance to Arrow Penetration
AverageJoe replied to JACK's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
First off, these arent guns and bullets, this is archery. A 60 or 70 yard shot is usually the maximum out here. A small pin gap and flatter trajectory to minimize miscalculations is more important than penetration, not that penetration isnt important. Heavy and slow will win over fast and light once you reach a certain distance. This is my theory in guns 100%. I would take a 200 gn bullet out of a 308 at 2500 fps anyday over a 150 gn bullet at 3000 fps. This is because of the downrange energy and better areodynamics. That being said, archery is very different. Penetration is overrated in the archery world. Why would a guy boast that he shot a deer and buried the arrow 12" in the dirt behind it? What good does the arrow do in the ground behind the animal? If a 400 gn arrow will end up on the ground 2" in the dirt but a 500 gn arrow will end up 12" in the dirt, which arrow made the deer more dead?? Neither... The other factor here is, does the arrow stuck in the chest cavity of an elk kill quicker than an arrow that passed through? The answer...yes. the blood trail might not be as good but it will still suffice. What doesnt kill an elk is a slow heavy arrow with too much trajectory that was misjudged by 5 yards. All this leads up to this conclusion. A 390 gn arrow traveling at 310 fps will have less drop, very ample penetration to kill any animal, and less chance of error in the event you didnt have a rangefinder or time to range the animal, which happens. It has a significant advantage in time in flight which again is a huge factor in the archery world at 60 yds. -
Is it the new prostaff 5 or old prostaff?

If you are looking at the experience, take a look at a used invasion or destroyer as well. they are almost the same bow and you can find a used d340 or d350 for under 500 fully setup. Look at archerytalk classifieds and there are a few on there.

Went out with my son for a couple hours on Saturday. Found a big 5 and this set. He is becoming quite the shed hunter and was excited as could be when he saw these. Scores close to 360...He was 6 in the avatar pic and is now 8. He has been taggin along behind me since he was 3. Just got done reading coaches post about how fast time goes by and I must agree.

What is your favorite bow brand? - archery market research
AverageJoe replied to JMP's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
The target world doesnt really mean much to hunters. Hunters out west need a bow that is fast, comfortable, and accurate to which Bowtech owns that market. The target world and hunting world should not even be mentioned in the same conversation as the bows are completely different. -

Industry leaders 10 years ago maybe. They're slow bows with the same ol boring solo cam and stupid grip. At least they started getting lighter. Almost every other bowmaker has blown them away in the last 5 years. They try to catch up with their dual cam series but those are still years behind most of the competition. -

Monster Non-typical 400" set of sheds
AverageJoe replied to bonecollector777's topic in Shed Hunting
He bought them...didnt find them -
You are entitled to your own opinion killer, even if it is completely wrong and has nothing to back it up. I will keep using 100 gn broadheads and taking elk for years to come. I will also continue using 160 gn bullets on elk and killing them for years to come...as will the majority of elk hunters out there. Good luck with your slow butt arrows LOL!!!

No offense but there is no Best Broadhead out there. They are all good and everyone likes their own for whatever reason they choose
-
They interchange just fine. I hVe used the same bases for both and both shot equally well
