If it was the normal closed reed cottontail call those have been used to death in all parts of the state and dont work as well. Get your self and open reed call or a coyote howl and try that next time. And definitely dont blow too hard on your first call.

What kind o call did you use?

Wanting to replace my Ar trigger

Our Marine Corps m16's had a two stage trigger in them. They were very nice triggers and very precise. -
Wanting to replace my Ar trigger
AverageJoe replied to HuntHarder's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The timney is a great trigger as always. I have one in my ar...its a simple drop in trigger once the old one is removed. Not as crisp it seems as a normal timney for a remington but still very good. -
Can I ship a rifle to a ffl in another state
AverageJoe replied to Big Browns's topic in The Campfire
Yes you can...or if worried just go to quentin defense in gilbert and they will do it for $20. That is what i do now for all outgoing ffl transfers -

You can get one online at midway usa or pacific tool and gauge -
The leica doesnt angle comp for the short ranges. I think that is what he means

While i am not a ballistic nut i would say the jacketed lead bullet has a higher bc. Seems if they both have the same profile the longer one would have more surface area and cause more drag along that surface area....but i am not a physics expert so i could be exactly wrong...lol

Sst is one of the best bullets for one shot kills at ranges beyond 300 yds. If close up shots (under 100) are expected it is not the best choice. I have seen 3 elk drop in their tracks at 600 ish yds from a 7mag 162 sst, one at 300 yds that took a few steps and fell over, 2 antelope at 330 yds and 440 yds both dead right there. Great bullet with the quicket kills of any bullet i have used. I have used others with nowhere near as good of results, to include barnes tsx, nosler bt, and regular soft point bullets like corelokt etc.

These guns are shooters. Had one in 223 that was a 1/2 moa gun out of the box.

I read about some old timers that used to hunt for coues in the hills around gila bend (mainly to the southeast) and saw some pics of a few big coues. That article was probably from 50 years ago though.

In the price range you want to spend the best choices are the leupold 1200, bushnell gforce, or vortex ranger. All good rangefinders but the vortex is limited to about 600 yd max. I can freehand the leupold out to 900 yds. One thing to remember about the leica is it does not angle compensate under 100 yds. So it is not as effective for archery as the other 3 mentioned. That was my main reason for getting rid of the leica and going with the leupold...which i have not regretted one bit

does it have a modified choke? -
I have had the slick for about 6 years now and it has been great. Lightweight very compact and I can still glass standing up if needed. Cant comment about the promaster but love my slik.

i bought carhartt camo bibs and they rip right through the catclaw no problem

Heavier barrel will add more weight and keep the rifle a bit more steady as well as the above mentioned advantages. The only disadvantage is packing an extra pound or two. Every other aspect the heavy barrel has the advantage. That being said i am done with heavy barrels and prefer a lightweight rifle for packing and still just as accurate with the first shot or two.

Glassed up a lion and 2 bobcats in 35b 2 weeks ago. Thinking a varmint trip is in the near future. This sounds like a good time!

Leupold 1200 tbr w/dna is very good in the $400 range. Leica is best but the leupold is very close after putting it to the test.

people voting for best field pic with a tongue hanging out of the deer? Lol

Its a remington 700 long range. Thats the model. Its a b&c stock and regular rem varmint barrel

I still have an old weaver 4x from the 60's that is remarkably clear on my grandads rem 721 30-06. With that fixed 4x the gun still shoots sub moa with nothing done to it and the old walnut stock. Just an amazing old 721

+1 for leupold vx1 or vx2

And you guys wonder why cams go missing?? Old dude realizes there is a camera that just took his pic and.....its gone. Lol

Had the 12's but went back to 15's for coues. The 12's were clearer and brighter but just didnt have enough magnification and i dont want to carry a spotter. If i had 12's i would definitely carry a spotter where as the 15's give me just enough magnification to tell the size of coues at 1200-1500 yds and in.
