New Member/First Coues hunt
AverageJoe replied to soazbinder's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Welcome to the site! I think he would score in the 90's. Good luck going after him! -
If you are thinking about using the el range as your only archery rangefinder...dont. You would be hard pressed to get a quick read on a deer at 40 yards as 10 power is way too much for close up ranging. If you have a normal rangefinder for archery and want the el's for rifle hunting that would work out fine. That being said I would rather have a separate rangefinder and binocular combo. Get some used 10x42 slc's and a leica rangefinder and you will be in well under the price of el range's.

Going through side roads in Colorado I have ran into unexpected snow storms, unexpected 35mph zones, no gas station when needed, etc.

Stick to I-40 and I-25. Having done it a few times and also going the other way I would much rather drive interstate. just quicker and easier. If you have extra time the alternate is definitely more scenic but if in a hurry to get there stay on the interstate.

Coues With Big Heavy Bullets

My experience as well. Barnes bullets suck. SST and SGK are devastating on deer and elk. -
I have shot one of those many times. Great little gun!

AverageJoe replied to maximus's topic in The Campfire
Not the first time I have heard of this. Has happened more than a few times. Even in my hunter ed course the instructor told of a similar story. that was in 1992 I believe -

Very nice bulls! I actually like the dark horned one on the right the most. Given a choice i would shoot that or the middle one with unique fronts over the bigger one on the left

As long as you dont talk bad about guides or mormons you wont be thrown off the site -
It is up to hunters to police our own. Just like any organization it works much better when you police your own. This causes hate from the law breakers but it doesnt matter. We must look out for one another even if it causes grief from some.

I reported dumbA's that were camped too close to a water hole and Game warden actually came out which was shocking. I would report the same thing good job Maverick.

I like them a lot. Regular turrets are not that much more complicated but when the moment arrives it is nice to worry about as little as possible. range, dial, shoot. All of my hunts from coues to elk to Wyoming antelope take place at or very close to 5500 elevation so the turret works great calibrated at 5500 ft. If hunting in many different elevations (or shooting extremely long ranges i.e. 1000+) a Kenton Turret is not the best choice as there are too many variables

If you heard a thwack how was it a pass through? A Thwack usually means bone, a thump is chest cavity. Did you see the arrow go all the way through him?

I am looking for an older Leupold Vari-x iii long range in 4.5-14 power range. Would also be interested in a vxii 6-18. If you have an older Leupold for sale let me know. Not interested in newer ones i.e. vx2 and vx3. Thank you
