Thinking of purchasing a Borden Ridgeline action for a WSM build. Perfect length for a WSM and a Berger EOL, fits 3.2 in the mag box. Down side so far its 16 to 20 weeks out. Wondering if anyone has any experience with them and and pros or cons to share?

100 gr Nosler Partition, 90 gr Swift Scirocco. 90 gr Nosler E-tip, 90 gr Nosler Accubond. All are available in factory ammo. If it were my choice the Scirocco would be my first pick.

Normally I would say 7-08 for sure but I wouldn't move up if the recoil of the 243 is too much. A well placed 100 gr bullet is far more deadly than a poorly placed 140 gr.

If the Swarovski STX is within your budget I wouldn't even consider any other spotter! There is a couple higher end scopes I haven't got the chance to look through but I've used quite a few and haven't seen anything that was even remotely close to the STX.

Great rifles, great loading, and great shooter for those results!

The only rifle I know of chambered for either that's not an AR would be the Nosler M48 in 22 Nosler. It's a higher end bolt gun. You could pick up a H&R in 223 and easily have it rechambered to either, but your back at the twist issue. Also a break style single shot with the fore end hanging off the barrel wouldn't likely be as accurate as a quality free floated bolt gun. If I were going to build a fast twist in either cartridge I would build off a Rem. 700.

Not in the valley but I know someone in cordes jct that does beautiful work.

I want video of that vapor trail!! I love seeing it! I'm not the greatest at video or pics but ill sure try. My last one got to watch a coyote fall at 350 and another at 980 yds also a coues at 600 watched all impacts in the scope. Awesome when you hunt alone and don't have the luxury of a spotter.

The 224 Valkerie is a 22 Nosler shortened to allow longer bullets to be seated and still fit in an ar magazine. If your running a bolt gun or a single shot there is no advantages. 22 Nosler will do the same thing 100 fps faster. I'm building a 22-250 Ackley with a 6.5 twist heavy varmint contour barrel. 15 lb rifle launching the 95 gr Sierra matching @ 3200 fps. Running the numbers on Shooter the bullet should stay super sonic to almost 2200 yds and from a rifle you can watch the vaper trail in the scope.

You would want a 223 but if your just wanting to rechamber a factory rifle you won't find one with a 1 in 7 twist. You can get .224 7 twist barrels from Krieger, Bartlein, and Douglas.

I use a 20v DeWalt lantern and charge the battery on an inverter in my truck during the day. Super bright lasts all night and not always buying batteries.

I've busted a couple coyotes with my 375 H&H. Not a pelt gun!

Anyone know case water capacities for different .270 Win brass?
dse replied to nw07heavy's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have used Winchester brass with great success, that is until about two years ago also bought cases that had cracks dents etc generally horrible looking qualities. Not sure which way to go now. Lapua, Nosler, Norma, Remington in that order. Some are more expensive but it pencils out when you get over 20 firings from Lapua and have to cull 1/4 to 1/2 of the lot of Winchester by the 2nd loading. -

I have seen military 30-06 brass sized to 270. I believe the neck stretches a little when sizing. The Winchester brass I've been getting lately has been absolutely horrible! Weight differences of up to 10 grains in 50 pcs.and I've found a lot cracks in necks and shoulders. Didn't use to be that bad. -
Too funny, man!!!! I thought I was the only one!! Nope I've done it too!

Those Marlin 22 mags are way accurate for a cheap rimfire! Mine will shoot in the .6's at 100 yds with the 30 gr v- max.
-
I would get him on a 22-250 or something like that something that has a little recoil and muzzle blast then a 243 or 410. The jump from a 22 to a 20 ga is huge if you move up gradually it won't be such a surprise to find out about recoil.

A Jon but would prefer a v hull. The v hulls tend to stay a little straighter when trolling mine is plenty stable but you pretty much have to keep a hand on the motor at all times.
-
Like others have said I wouldn't go under 12 and a 14 is a ton better! My 14 will move pretty well with a 40lb thrust motor and is way more stable than the smaller boats I've had.
-
Or 2 or 3 in each cartridge! Otherwise what are you supposed to do when one gets hot? Wait? Just a silly waste of time!
-
None of them are a perfect one size fits all. With that said, if your only going to have one I just don't think it matters. P?Just pick one between .270 and .338 I honestly think bullet selection and how you set the rifle up are far more important than the cartridge. With the quality of bullets and scopes the advantages some cartridges had over others has closed up a ton.

That VX-6 3-18 in the classifieds would be the one I would go with it's a couple hundred more than the ones in your list but we'll worth it.

Went to an outdoor expo in Rapid City SD about a month ago. They had several utv's with fully enclosed cabs, crank windows, ac/heater, windshield wipers, and all. Seems like the best of all world's but about $18,000 to get one.
-
I've seen them on stuff in Sycamore canyon that you wouldn't think they could have gotten to.

Good deal for a model 12 in 16 ga! Don't think I've ever seen one for under twice that.
