I'd be willing to help, 35b is the only unit I know well. I also had tons of extra gear rifles, tripods, binos, packs, and such if that would help.

Questions on the next setup...what off the shelf platform, various 6.5 options...
dse replied to Green Bullet's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
You can build it without breaking the bank. I had a 300 rum built at PCR last year and had close to $4000 into it before the scope. I also had a fast twist 22-250Ai built by a guy up in Cordes for just over $1000. Built on a Savage 11, Douglas rem varmint contour 26" 1in7 twist barrel, Bell & Carlson M40 stock. It's shooting 3" groups at 900yds with 80gr Berger vld. We've dropped one coues with it so far at 566yds. Besides all that this rifle is more fun than any one person should be allowed to have. -
A Leupold VX-3 4.5-14 is the very minimum I will put on a hunting rifle.

I talked to a guy from border patrol in 35b a couple years ago that told me he had caught the same guy running dope 13 different times. The problem is they don't do anything to them when they catch them. That wall is going to be a huge waste of money. They already dig tunnels under the fence or build ramps and drive over it. How's a wall going to stop that? A five year stay in Guantanamo bay, making big rocks into small rocks with a sledgehammer would be much more effective!

I've missed many times more shots inside 40 yards than I ever have beyond 300,( mostly at coyotes). It seems like every year I glass up someone walking a hill and they end up missing a buck inside rock throwing distance.

Looking for input on a scope for a lightweight 7 mm-08 AI
dse replied to 300RUM's topic in Long Range Shooting
Not a high end scope but I've had good luck with the Leupold VX-6 3-18x44mm. Weight 19 oz, several decent reticles, and the glass isnt bad. In some condition's I like it better than my Nightforce. In low light the Nightforce blows it away but it is 44mm vs 56mm. I've had zero tracking issues and have shot out to 1000 yds with it on my 270 Wsm. -
I understand heat rays will always be there, but side by side when the ATS was unusable above 20x the STX was still amazingly clear on 60x. If it doesn't have anything to do with the optics, what would cause this?

How many shots does a barrel burn out
dse replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have well over 2000 rds through my 270 Wsm pushing 130 Swift Scirocco's at 3475 fps on the factory REM. barrel. Still holding close to 1/2 moa, which is almost as good as it's ever shot. -
Really ? How is it garbage ? It was ok from the time it was light enough to see till the sun came up, usable up to about 40x. Once the sun was up if you got off 20x all you could see was heat rays. Even at 20x it wasn't great, I could judge better in my 15s. Definitely not what I expected from Swaroviski. On my way home from the hunt I stopped by the Outdoorsman's and looked through the STX with the 65mm lens, just to compare apples to apples. Day and night better! At 3:00 with full sun could see needles on the cholla at 1900 yds. In my opinion the STX would be absolutely worth the $3500. On the other hand the ATS was a $2200 paperweight.

Anyone reloading for a .264 win mag?
dse replied to GreyGhost85's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I've seen them at Sportsman's in Mesa, Phx,& Prescott within the last month. I usually get them from Midway. They are a little pricey but they get the job done every shot. All the ELD-X's I've shot have liked being loaded with .005 jump. -
I would keep the 8s add the 15x56hd swaro's and a spotter if you choose. I use 10x42 ELs and the 15 hds, just picked up the 20-60x65 ATS. This scope is complete garbage! If I was looking for a spotter I would only consider the Swaroviski STX.

Anyone reloading for a .264 win mag?
dse replied to GreyGhost85's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If it were me I would start with the 130 gr Swift Scirocco over a healthy dose of RL-22. -
I'll be passing through PHX & Benson heading to Texas on I-10 on Monday or Tuesday, if that would be close enough.
-
Might try Cal ranch I picked up a 700 ADL in 22-250 a few days ago for $257.
-
For that caliber, why not go custom and have exactly what you want? Unless your going to buy a Savage most rifles in 6.5-284 are pretty pricey anyway.
-
Either one will not disappoint. I've used the 270 Wsm for the last 7 years running the 130 Swift Scirocco @ 3475 fps. It's taken a half dozen coues between 300 and 700 yds, a lion @ 650, and a elk @ 400. Non have needed a second shot. I've shot half moa groups @1200 yds.

They also tune the trucks with the aisin to have more power than trucks with the 68rfe
-
Are you looking to buy a bolt gun, or already have one with a 1 in 12? There are several bolt rifles that come with a 1 in 9.

I have a 75 grizzly and a yeti that I think is the same size. I thought they would save me time during the hunt not having to go to town every couple days for ice. They work well if the highs are 40s or 50s. But on the Oct. hunts I still have to add ice every 3 days. Had the yeti in the truck at work all summer and never got over 3 days before the ice was gone.

I try to keep everything between 2.5 to 3 lbs.

Ruger Precision Rifle vs Savage BA 110 stealth
dse replied to goinhuntn's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
You should have said something a couple days ago buddy just sold a Ruger precision 308 yesterday with dies and ammo for $900 -
That sounds interesting!

The aisin is a good deal but we probably have a dozen 3500s with the 68rfe that commonly roll up the road weighing around 40,000 lbs. Several have over 100000 miles and I can't remember one having a transmission issue.
-
I've got the 68RFE

I just bought a 2016 Ram 3500 Bighorn from Dave Smith motors in Kellogg Idaho. Couldn't be happier so far. 23000 miles so far pulling all over the country with zero issues.
