One of my employees got drawn in 1991 and didn't fill, got the same tag in 1993 and didn't fill, (Mohawks and Coppers) Drew 15C n. in about 2003 or so and finally shot a sheep. My years could be off by 1 or 2 but that's the way it went. I know that there are way more folks putting in now with lots of bonus points so it is much tougher. Remember what the definition of insanity is. Persistence can pay off, but luck plays the biggest role. A still very dumbstruck, EBB

Who Drew The Tag of a Lifetime?
EBB replied to couesobsession's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Guys, Thanks so much for the sentiments. I just went back to the G&F website and it still says "Draw Successful". I even printed it out. I still can't believe that I finally got drawn for sheep. There is hope, especially if you have max Bonus Points. I had always assumed I'd get the tag when both knees were in need of replacing. They still work but this might void any warranty I had previously. I think I will offer that lucky hat up for rent next drawing cycle. It's funny, now that I've drawn I'm sitting here wondering what to do first. I've never even been in 24B but, I guess now I'll have the opportunity. I was on one sheep hunt before when a friend got drawn in the Copper and Mohawks about 20 years ago. I just remember that the more eyes we had behind the glass the better off we were. But back then there weren't enough carrots to find a shooter in there. If I keep rambling like this I may have to check myself into an institution for observation! I'm still a bit dazed! Thanks, EBB -
Must be my lucky hat! EBB

Who Drew The Tag of a Lifetime?
EBB replied to couesobsession's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Hunt 6016. 31 years to draw. Weak kneed, post adrenalin rush. Can't think right now. EBB -
To get it hauled off you could just package it up like those bales you see on TV. If the Police or DEA don't pick it up then someone else will for sure. EBB

I always have Mickey Newbury CD's in the truck. Absolutely nothing to so with hunting or outdoors but the slow tempo sad story songs unwind you from City life. This makes the transition to quiet much easier. EBB

The legislature passed this last year with only ground effects types and sparklers. They gave the Cities and Towns the right to preclude their jurisdictions from legal use. When we did our Ordinance in Cave Creek one of the lobbyists came and spoke against our ordinance. It passed 7-0 so fireworks are not legal in any form in Cave Creek. But the confusion created by selling them openly and legally is gonna make a lot of people think they're ok anywhere. The fireworks lobby went back to the legislature this session 2011 and tried to take the right of preclusion from Cities and Towns. Thankfully that effort failed. I guess the Fireworks Lobbyists never heard of the Cave Creek Complex fire or just don't care. We still remember our fire very well. Another example of campaign funds trumping common sense. This is why it is so important to do your homework and vote in every election, especially primaries. There are way too many people making decisions that are just plain dumb. If the candidates don't have two neurons to rub together for crying out loud don't vote for them! EBB

OK, So here is my problem. I googled "Poison Oak Arizona" and one site says that we don't have it here, another says it's only ivy, another shows sumac as well. It would appear that specific regional information searches on the web can be very misleading! So if you have had a bad experience in Az with this stuff what does ours really look like? Are there all 3 or 2 or one? When I was a teenager in Northern California I would occasionally get too close and have severe reactions. Now in my mid 50's and in Az since 1976 I don't remember seeing it here but now I think I have. What else has the 3 leaf "uh oh" look here? EBB

Interesting facts on New Mexico score contest
EBB replied to SirRoyal's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
For me this was the toughest Guess the score we've had. I'm usually very close but this AWESOME buck had me fooled from the get go. After I did the numbers I even added 5" because he had so much going on. Still I under scored him by about 10". I can only say this, were I to see a buck that was even 30" smaller and I had a tag, there would be no hesitation!!!! EBB -
Partners on Cave Creek Road does it and I hear their pretty good. EBB

Brewer Selects Mansell for Commission
EBB replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Actually Amanda, I failed to mention that. There was a time not so long ago where I know they watched to see if people were saying critical things about the Department. They are very sensitive to what the avid sportspersons think. They culled the original 73 down to 19 from the resume's and I made that first cut. Unfortunately, I'm not very impressive on paper. Heck, I'm not that impressive in person either now that I think about it. EBB -

Wish they would have chosen me. EBB -
Think back to all those episodes of The Untouchables. Substitute the word Cartel for everytime you heard the word Mob. J Edgar said "marijuana would grow wild in the streets. 73 years and we're still fighting that battle. I say legalize it, tax it and utilize the money to fight dangerous drugs like meth, heroin, and cocaine. By the way, just so you know the smell of pot smoke turns my stomach. I guess my Libertarian leanings are showing on this issue. EBB

I have gone down for the last 4 years. Not so sure about this year. I'm getting a bit paranoid about that first 40 miles or so. EBB

Could they have been the masked bob white quail they have on the refuge? http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http:/...ved=0CCYQ9QEwBg no, that's what I wondered at first, but they didn't look anything like those quail. They looked like shorter, stockier gambels with pale top knots. Like this maybe? http://worldbirds.eu/album1/Elegant_quail.jpg EBB
