My elk points are adding up.......I have been thinking about applying for 27 early archery elk next year. I've been in 27 before but don't really know that much about it and have been thinking about hiring a outfitter if I draw. I would think an outfitter with horses would be the way to go because of the terrain. Know any outfitters with horses that hunt 27 ? I see post from a lot of guys that just hunt on foot. From what I've seen it seems like it would be a big help/advantage to have horses. I know there are easier units but getting way back into no mans land with a bow and a horse is hard to beat... IMO.... but I don't know that much about this unit. Who are some outfitters that hunt 27 with horses ? I know it's early yet but elk hunting is serious business ! Thanks

2014: Unit 1 archery or Unit 3B early muzzleloader?
joe hunter replied to Umpqua's topic in Elk Hunting
Ok I thought I saw somewhere 11 non res would get a guy into unit 1. Anyway you got a good problem to have Amigo. Good luck. -
Never owned a Trophy Ridge sight, can't answer that question.......but Black Gold sights are great sights.

I hope your Pa will forever R.I.P. We're only here for a little while I sure wish more people would act like people in America used to act.

I use a Black Gold 5 pin. I've never used a 1 pin sight, don't know much about them. This Sept. I snuck in on a bull that was bugling and he busted me but there was another bull that had been bedded down in the same area that I didn't know was there. I saw him, he saw me and stood up. I guessed him to be at 45 yard......split my 40 and 50 yard pins and SMOKED him....That quick shot with little time to think is why I like a 5 pin sight.

2014: Unit 1 archery or Unit 3B early muzzleloader?
joe hunter replied to Umpqua's topic in Elk Hunting
I would put in for 10 early archery by myself and take my son along with me this year to hunt with me. Next year I would put my son in for unit 1 early archery and hunt with him. Make two great seasons out of it. You should both have the points it takes to get in those units with him having 11 pts. next year. What ever way you go I'm sure it will make for some great memories. -
I have been shooting the Magnus Stinger 2 blade on whitetails for about 5 years and they work great. I have killed.......SMOKED.....3 bulls using Magnus Snuffer SS. After seeing how good the 2 blade shoots and what it does to whitetail I am sure it would work great on elk. Both are real easy to resharpen using a corse and a fine diamond stone !

1 point won't get you into any of the top unit's but it will get you a general elk tag in the general units and I think with that tag you can hunt any general unit.....I think that's how it works..... I drew a WY tag last year for a limited entry unit with 5 points. Also in some units you can hunt archery and come back with your tag and hunt rifle if you haven't tag out already. With 3 points for antelope you can draw a pretty good unit or you could put in for the special draw (twice the price) and get into a real good unit.

I will fight those weak, meak, freak liberals till the day I die !!! I take my 8 year old grand daughter and my 4 year old grand son out shooting with me every chance I get. If they ever kick my GD or GS out of school for a week or two for just saying something about a firearm they will spend that week with me at the range! -
380 to 400+ is a BIG bull... but it all depends on how my bow hunt is going. If it's been a hard hunt and only a day or two left a 300 + is a big bull. A nice clean 6 point 300+ bull with just a day or two left in the hunt will get a 340 Easton Axis arrow launched at him everytime.

Good on you norsemen !!!!!!!!!

Sighting in my bow, and getting frustrated...
joe hunter replied to ylclaret's topic in The Campfire
If you have to move your sight remember it's not like a rifle sight where you move your sight towards the bullzeye with a bow if you are shooting to the right you want to move your sight to the right, same with up and down if you are hitting high move your sight up...hitting low move it down. You should put your peep in line with the sight ring, bring the pin up to your target (spot), release and follow through....don't bring your shooting hand down or your bow down until you hear your arrow hit. Don't over do it. Like said above, just shoot a couple arrows at a time and think about your form and what you are doing. If you stsrt getting tired take a break.....don't try to" force" yourself to shoot good. -
Nice pics MPH... You getting into a herd of elk reminds me how a few years ago on an archery hunt me and my bro rode out into a big meadow, got half way across it when 2 big 350 class bulls came running out of the timber screaming and running right to us. We also had a little mule tagging along with us and the bulls must have thought he was a cow ...lol... it was unreal . Me and my bro where trying to get into some cover with the horses, the little mule got to running away from the bulls , the bulls were bugling and going crazy until they saw me jump off my horse to try to get a shot then they must have realized our horses and the mule weren't elk.

Sad news for sure. God bless them and their families. -
I think I saw that lady in Orlando, FL one time standing in line with about 100 other people at a grocery store cashing checks on the 1st of the month.. That's the new American and there is a lot of them...funny thing is..... they ALL vote.

The president of the US that is...Obama. If given the chance to meet him and shake his hand would you ? Me, I would have to say....NO WAY !!

SMITTY, I agree with every word of that 100000%

Our so called president

I am a member of the NRA, bought my boys all memberships (life) and love the USA !! but with all the liberal members of congress and all the liberals in America and all the minorities leaning towards the left IMHO.... we are riding on a sinking ship. The good old days are gone for good . I don't ever see the "American Way" coming back because way too many regular Americans don't vote but most ALL minorities/liberals do and congress and politicians go where the votes are and conservative America doesn't have them........sad but true. -
Why no enforcement ???? because we are going down to their level ...not making them come up to ours. Only thing I can come up with from what I'm seeing. You see that same thing in December all over the country. Looks like the Beverly Hillbillys headed home. Take a big truck into California with an unsecured load...you'll never do that again. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
