Matt, It looks like you must have made Ben carry both of those pigs back to the truck. Thanks for the Bergers! Shayne

I guess you'll be getting rid of all your Coues hunting stuff. Nothing left to do! congrats! Shayne

Opinions needed...New rifle
shaynec replied to azelkhunter2's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I bought a box a bullets and it had the recommended twist rate on the box, then I built the rifle. When things were not going quit right I thought they had put the wrong barrel in but when I measured the twist it was 1x10. That was the recommended rate, but no luck so far. Shayne -
Opinions needed...New rifle
shaynec replied to azelkhunter2's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I just put together a Kimber 84 with a Christensen carbon barrel chambered for 257 Wby. I had it built with the intention of shooting the berger 115 vld. It shoots ok but not what I had hoped. All my flat based bullets shoot fine out of it but it does not like those vld's. Anyway I'm starting to wonder if maybe a 25-06 might have been a better choice. It's always something! Shayne -

.280 Remington Load Data?
shaynec replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have a couple of 280's and you can't go wrong with the Nosler reload data. They offer a "most accurate" powder choice for every bullet they have in the book and I normally just use the recommended powder, just lazy I guess. Good Luck, Shayne -
I like the Mark 4 but it seems that every scope is some sort of compromise. I like the fact that it comes with the knobs but I like the varmit hunter reticle. So for me it's a better value to order the VX-3 with the reticle I want and have the knob added. I realize thats overkill on the options but I like to be able to do anything I want with the scope. Sorry I just remembered there is one caveat to my post. I do not give it much weight but the vx-7 has a 50mm obgective and the others have 40"s. But it does look more clear when we are shooting rocks at 500 yards. Shayne

I have all 3 of the scopes you have listed, all with 30mm tubes and similar magnification. The V7 is definately a little more clear but I don't care for the knob set-up. I'm scope poor right now but if I were going to buy another it would be the vx-3 with the target elevation knob added. Shayne

I have a pair of 8x42 vipers that I like just as well as my 8x32 EL's. That is not a totally fair comparison, but if I needed another pair of binos I would go with the Vortex. Shayne

Last year at the Federally inspection my Barnes TSX received quite a bit of scrutiny. The refered to them as expansivo's, which I took as "bad". I would have thought that something with a white or red plastic tip would of looked more menacing. Next time I will have to give some thought to a non-threatening looking bullet. Shayne

I love to read a story like yours. Thats a good buck, every buck we take is a good buck. They don't all have to set a record. Congrats! Shayne

Check with Sinclair International on the web. They always seem to have what I need in stock (bergers). shayne

Are factory barrels really this bad
shaynec replied to scoutm's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I would like to see the factory barrel after it had been hand lapped, the same as the custom barrel. Shayne -
Weekend Scouting trip to Mexico!
shaynec replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Amanda, I relly enjoyed you vid. I had to watch because we were in Magdelena Jan 08 and wanted to see if it was the same ranch. It looked familiar but I could'nt tell for sure. But there is a common Mexico theme, great country, great hunting, helpful hosts and great food! Your poor shooting friend from San Carlos, Shayne -
If it is a new Mark X you may not be able to do it yourself, they have really mucked up the 1st generation of that trigger. shayne

I cannot believe what I've gone and done!!!!
shaynec replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Pretend like you are in Mexico and pay attention to all your drinking water, including ice. Colera is an epidemic in Zim right now. Good Luck! Shayne -

Starting with a completely clean barrel is the best advice posted so far. Cr-10 will remove copper but something like Butches bore shine is a lot safer to work with and very effective if you give it time to do its thing. The TSX is a totally differant beast from the old x-bullet, it doe not foul nearly as bad as the x bullet and I have not found it to be very difficult to load for . Barnes has a new guide, just out, that covers the TSX and the Tipped TSX in the 270. IMO Shayne

Did you paint your wall a differant color or is that a new wall? Shayne
