I want to hear more of the story! Was that the first deer you ever shot at? Did you practice before the hunt? Did you do any weight training? What kind of bullet did you use? Don't hold back Spence! shayne

I did'nt want to leave you stranded, but if you e-mail berger they will generally provide you with the data you need. I don't know about the improved version, but in my imp calibers I usually use the top end of what"s printed for the parent cartridge. The Hornady guide has 6.5-06 data. It's a place to start. shayne

I tried to get the Leupold rep to tell me why the Mark 4 was better than the VX3, I guess it's a secret.

Very Nice! What kind of bullet were you using in the 25-06? shayne -
Here are some pictures from our hunt last weekend south of Tucson. Mark spotted this deer at about 9:30 am at about a thousand yards, he let me hike up the hill in between us to let me settle in at 351 yards. Finally at 1:30pm the deer woke up and walked out of the brush broadside. One 95 grn Berger VLD from my .243 was all it took. That bullet really did a number on that deer. Note the special custom knob. Twelve year old Spencer, on his first deer hunt hiked up with me to field dress the deer and drag him down to the quads, I don't think I could have done it without him! I want to thank Mark, Jake, Ryan and Spencer for all their help! Shayne

Hey Spence, Glad to see you signed up. The buck scored 87 5/8, it's always fun to see how close we can guess in the field. Shayne

You certainly would'nt want your whitetail to be too dead.

Back in the olden days I suffered through a poor mounting job from a local gun shop and decided to try to remove the mystery some associate with properly mounting a scope. After you do a couple it really opens a door to what you need to do to get the most out of your rifle. Congrats on taking the leap! Shayne -

Pick out some rings and mounts, read the directions carefully and do it yourself. Its not that difficult and you will learn alot in the process. shayne -
Would you pay someone to develop/reload for you
shaynec replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Between cleaning, load development and range time very few people can appreciate how much time is involved in getting the most out of a rifle. SRC -
Rifle basix has the most user friendly trigger replacement I've seen for the model 70. Very simple, nice trigger. Shayne
