Appreciate the advice. We have seen very few elk there this year too. I know it has been dry but the herd is still unusually small for the area.

Did anyone find any tanks in 7W that have water on the early hunts? We have gone up several times and are not seeing the elk because the tanks are dry that had water on earlier scouting trips. It seems as this area is really dry this year. Any help would be appreciated. Ben

Anyone familiar with this unit? This is the first time we put in for this unit and got drawn for the December hunt. My buddy has a friend that hunts this unit and we are going up this weekend without him. I was just hopig someone could point us in the right direction and not just count on him. We heard that Mexican Canyon holds some nice bucks. Thank you

I killed a deer last year in unit 23. It was a small 3 x 3 w/out eye gards. There is a pretty decent population of Deer just outside of Pinos Altos.

Mule Deer

I will be hunting unit 27 in NM and my New Mexico family isn't familiar with the area. The guy that was, wasn't on our card and was drawn for another unit. We usually hunt the Pinos Altos area and Mule Creek. We have ben told that there are a lot of big muleys in this unit especially close to the Grey Ranch.
