What about a New Topic?
Hunting6 replied to gonhntn's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
"I'll probably get slapped for this, since my Dad is a Trainer, Trial'er, and bird hunting NUT..... ... but I come here for the Coues.... and Bone.... and conversation about Coues and Bone..... (by Bone I mean anything that grows on a critter's head.... bone or hair based) And I know that I am not being open minded... and that ain't nice..... but I'm into big game! I like stuff that has enough blood in it to leave a blood trail! Let's talk about stuff like that!! Now if you are talking about shooting the heads off birds at long range.... I'm IN!!! " LOL...Now that is the funniest quote I have ever read on this site. Dang you got some charachter man.... As for adding birds to the site... By all means, couldn't hurt. No lie though..... that was a hilarious statement. -
Beautiful Cat !!! He looks to be right around 90-95 Pounds, but I am no expert on Cats. congrats to you guys and the dogs.

I shot twice without ear protection using my 30-378, and told myself never again ! Because of that incident I ended up passing on a couple of good bucks I jumped up hiking into a glassing spot. I guess if the deer were huge I would have let the hammer drop, but I figure long term hearing will be important and if I don't have to, I won't.

I cannot believe what I've gone and done!!!!

Good Luck on your trip ! I would hate to see the taxidermy bill for an elephant -
It goes to show you that the country (Ours) is changing rapidly to the left, and so much so that criminals, whether they be terrorists or squatters have certain rights that we ourselves would not. Doesn't seem to matter much anymore if you have contacted your government representatives or not. There are too many citizens out there that are basically ignorant, and if it doesn't affect thier own interests, could give a crap. Thank God for guys like Glenn Beck who offer these kinds of scenarios to the public where they would otherwise get buried and not heard.

First Shed of 09'- Not a brownie - but A good sign
Hunting6 replied to AZP&Y's topic in Shed Hunting
Cool Shed you found there AzP&Y, looks pretty clean with no rodent marks on it. Mr Jonathan Sheds can be found just about anywhere but look for areas that have higher concentration of bucks. Most of the ones I have found have not been too far from water sources and also fairly close to bedding areas. I got real lucky and found this 103 buck skull just over a week ago while Quail hunting/shed hunting. No Quail, but this made the whole trip worthwhile. -
When does the San Carlos start selling tags?
Hunting6 replied to RoughCut's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I am not sure what the prices are for this year (2009) I can tell you that depending on what tag you purchase determines if you are required to have a guide or not. You do not need a guide if you are hunting outside of the R-100 unit (coues deer). The rut hunt is more expensive than the November hunts. if you decide to go, get ready to see fewer deer than you might normally see in a southern unit. It is a tough place to hunt, but in my mind one of the most rugged and most beautiful places to see in Arizona. I believe that if you hunt the D-unit in November you do not need a guideeither , but would need one for the rut hunt. -
I don't think I would replace the cape on your deer. By the picture you have here, you can't really see any major damage to it. if all you have is ears splitting, or seams showing. That can be repaired. if it just requires some touch up paint, that is even easier to have done. if the skull cap is loose, again that can be easily repaired. Is the current cape losing major portions of hair ?

Cade, Congratulations again on taking an extremely rare deer. Can't wait to see him in my hands. You are the type of guy who's determination and skill end up reaping great rewards time and again. I'd say it is time to do a life size eh???? Mike

Mexico 08/09! (Long & Pic Heavy)
Hunting6 replied to cramerhunts's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Awesome buck..... a great story to boot.... congratulations on a beauty. thanks for sharing Mike -
Josh, I am sure he probably filled you in on more of the details of the hunt, and what a hunt it was. Dan can still get behind a pair of binoculars and glass. I will get them to Dan's shop in a month or two, and he can give you a call. once in your hands you can really appreciate the size of this monster. Mike

That is a beautiful deer! Congrats on your success. the story and pictures are much appreciated. Mike

Good luck to you, and shoot straight...

Hunting6 replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Hey, Good Luck on finding the big guy... the sight of him must be buzzing the brain continuously. -
Wow... nice Buck Jay 2 years in a row... I see you still haven't made it back down from the clouds yet, and I can't blame you either. Your Skill and Determination is evidently paying off. Thanks for sharing the picture and story. Mike
-
Thanks for the story and I think you did a nice job regardless of the earlier misses. I have never met a good hunter, let alone any hunter who has not missed shots whether close or far. That is a deer to be extremely proud of, and I can speak for quite a few of us who have hunted many years before we took a deer in that class. Congratulations and go get em again next year !
-
Wow, both of those bucks are sweet.... I especially like the palmated buck. it's too bad the other buck was so broken up, he would have definitely scored high. CONGRATULATIONS on your success in Mexico !!! I bet you can't wait to get back down there? Mike

Thanks for the kind words from all of you. it is still a surreal sensation and as always, its being in the right place at the right time, and I am grateful I was in that "time frame", and able to deal with the situation. No doubt there is hard work involved that goes along with the time frame thing.

Allen, I probably will as I don't think I will get another opportunity for a Deer like this one. Thanks Buddy

How many are hunting the Nov. 36A whitetail hunt
Hunting6 replied to AzTrapper's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I am really just curious why there are so many of you who are unwilling to camp in the 36's alone. It's not like you have to worry about bears... I have been in there a bunch alone also, and its not so much the Coyotes with guns, but alot of those people (Illegals) are desperate for food & water and will take chances that normally wouldn't occur. Many of them can become thieves in the night, of which I myself had the misfortune to be caught up in the middle of, Thank God they weren't armed, I was... but that gives little comfort when you are still half asleep and you are not sure how many of them are around you. I am not a fan of shooting someone even if I have to because it's the US citizen (ie. ME) that will suffer from the ordeal. It's total BS what is happening down there, and if you haven't experienced any episodes then you are lucky. I have had a few run-ins with them, both drug runners and normal illegal border crossers. I haven't had to shoot, and I pray I don't ever have to. I still camp alone down there, but I try to strategize all of my options to minimize any surprises prior to where I spend the night -
Jim, Those are awesome pictures !!! some of those should be enlarged and framed. You captured great color on the over the top picture of the Sidewinder. You must have a decent camera ??? Excellent... man !!!
