  1. If you are worried about buyers remorse, I would consider how high the resale value is on swarovski optics. I love my leica rangefinder as well, but I would suggest buying glass elsewhere only because of popularity and resale. Leica is amazing glass, but I'm not so sure about the demand being the same. Also, you could buy used and be out almost nothing if you decide to resell. Finding a used, in like new condition pair of swaro 15s is pretty easy.

    Happy Birthday gotcoues

Thanks guys, Hanging out with family all weekend and I've been shooting the new recurve!
  3. I've never tried Tenzing, but I hear good things about them. Seemed like too good of a deal not to put the word out. If the add has expired you can call direct and check to see if they still have any left and they will honor the price $229.99

16 points - what to apply for

Pretty sure I have 16 as well, I wish I would have started archery hunting sooner. I'd probably have hunted goats in AZ 2 or 3 times already!? I feel forced to wait for rifle since I have collected all these wonderful BPs now. Good luck Coach

    Outdoorsmans pack

DB is right, they are a touch noisy. Other than that, I would give the pack an a+. Super comfortable and it's a true work horse. I had the Just One and also love that, but I sold it because I like the optics pack better. Also, you can sit down with the Outdoorsmans still on, while holding a rifle. The Eberlestock set up will not allow this while toting a rifle. I have the Eberlestock large side pouches on my hip belt, they attach very easily. One other plus is it will accept a 3 liter bladder where my Just one Eberlestock pack would only hold a 2 liter.

    is it legal?

Huntharder is correct, but dogs have to be leased at all times. If an animal that you are trying to recover is found alive. Dogs must be pulled immediately. Dale from Wild Heritage Taxidermy rents his bloodhound I believe and has a lot of knowledge about this topic.

    The streak continues . . .

I guess I never realized how many people are plagued with the "pig curse", I too suffered from the pig curse for many years. I sure hope you guys get the monkey off your back and somehow the curse is broken. I'm addicted to javi hunting now and as a family we seem to put the hurt on em! Headed out tomorrow to try and help my daughter and her boyfriend fill their first archery tags during this javelina hunt. Good luck on everyone's javi hunts!

    Wind

Animals are up feeding out of the wind during their normal hours for the most part in my experience. Need to be glassing into the wind as a good rule of thumb. If it's rainy and windy, then I think they tend to hunker down. I hate the wind, it definitely makes it harder to find game, but I normally keep hunting as best I can and just complain about it! If you do find something, the stronger wind can be very helpful to sneak in closer without being detected, especially with a bow.

Pay it forward - I will start

Hhmmmm..... well, I consider myself a conservative and I do like Fox News. I purchased a hunting license and javelina tag for my Son's friend who has never hunted before. All he has to do is "show up". Wait that's not right, I'm going to pick him up and provide some camo, the weapon and ammo and haul the kids down to the unit. Dang, those "mooching kids!" You sound ridiculous MRL and I think I've chosen a kinder word than I should. Sometimes it's better to "quite while your behind"
  10. My son Dillon was able to fill his second 2014 pig tag today. We have a wash at the end of our neighborhood loaded with pig sign and beds. We had walked it at least a dozen times when the season was open in January and couldn't catch them in there. Dillon has tried it twice since the season was open and today was the lucky day.
  11. That is a monster! Very happy for you Jake, I had a good feeling you were going to get it done. And you got it done in a big big way! Congrats to you on a buck of dreams
  12. My wife Colleen was able to wrap her tag around a great buck. She hunted hard right out of the gate, going on long walks and getting up early. We went on mission impossible chasing a secretive booner that lives in deep, thick and nasty country. Best we could do was lay eyes on him from 820 yards away. We gave up on him after the first weekend. Hunted nights during the week due to her work commitments and saw only small bucks. Well, Saturday was the big day. Colleen, myself and my good friend Andrew started walking at 2am to get to a spot we have been scouting for three seasons and have yet to try and hunt it. We were settled in by 5:40 and Andrew continued on to another vantage point in hopes of increasing our odds of finding a good buck quick. Andrew was the first to find bucks from his vantage point, but I was also able to glass up two bucks before shooting light at 430 yards. By the time we could tell he was a shooter, he slipped into a very small cut and bedded. Andrew and I talked about the different bucks and we decided to try and take the one we knew was hiding right in front of us. The waiting game ensued while his buddy was bedded out where we could see him. Finally at 9:30 he reappeared and feed towards us. As I was adjusting the turrets for a third time, he finally turned for a better shot angle. Boom, buck down at 320 yards at 9:45 am. My friend Harvey had also offered to help, in the early afternoon, he parked and started the journey in to meet us and help with the pack out. After pics and loading up packs with the quartered out buck, we made a pit stop at our camera to swap cards and refresh. We had no way to view the card, but bringing home "the gold" is always a good thing! At about the half way point, we enjoyed a hot lunch consisting of Mountain House Chili Mac w Beef, Beef Stroganoff and instant hot coffee, we used water from a running spring for lunch as to save our drinking water. This hunt was Colleen's first experience with freeze dried foods and she was very impressed with the quality of meals we were able to eat in the back country. At about the 75% out mark, Harvey was waiting for us. He took my pack (my knees were about done), I took Colleen's and Andrew stayed in warrior mode with his heavy pack. We managed to get back to the trucks at 5:09 that night. I couldn't be more proud, and impressed with Colleen. I'm a lucky guy and thankful to have such an amazing wife. She hung in there throughout this hunt, no matter what the challenge. On Sunday, Colleen starting processing her coues buck as she has done with all her animals. She made 10lbs of chaurice sausage, grind up a bunch of burger. Santa has already dropped off the new smoker, so she is looking forward to testing it out on some coues. We had hauled in bags, tent and sleeping pads so Colleen and I could stay the night last night (Andrew was leaving at 3 with or without a deer down). We will need to make the 8 hr journey to retrieve that gear, we just couldn't get it all out with one trip unfortunately. This is certainly a well deserved trophy coues buck for my wife Colleen! As a bonus, we have the left side shed from his 2012 rack, trail camera pictures from two years and also video of him Nelson and I took in early August.

    First coyote with my bow

Neighborhood pets disappear at an alarming rate, cats and small dogs included in our neighborhood. These urbanized killers jump over 5 and 6 foot block walls like they were 2 foot high. They run right down the sidewalk at night in packs like the own the hood. Just got my son Dillon a crossbow for Christmas, we plan on doing some urban calling in the wash and see if we can lend a helping hand to the neighborhood pets..... Congrats on getting one with a bow, no go get some more!

Metro Stinker, Big D knocks one down!

You can kill two out of the same metro hunt, that would be the only exception to the different hunt number rule. My assumption would be your "double the money" is far fetched as they are selling left over tags not "new" tags other than the addition to the metro hunt which is one of the best they've had recently IMO. You don't have to purchase another one, no one is forcing anybody to buy these tags. Would I like to see tag prices for pigs go down, sure I would. Do I think being able to kill two in one year is the best thing since sliced bread, yup.... sure do!

Metro Stinker, Big D knocks one down!

Yes, 2 per year started in 2013. This is our metro double from last year putting us at 2 each for 2013 as well.

    need advice please!

With these temps, the meat will be fine. I would exhaust every effort looking for him under the assumption he's dead. I agree with rounding up friends, manpower could be very helpful I you don't find him quick. Sounds like a dead buck to me. Good luck
  18. Pretty sweet bucks Phil, you guys did well! Neat little video you put together as well. Congrats on two sweet bucks you guys
  19. My Friend Harvey was able to cash in his 30 plus bonus points and take a buffalo on Friday. He invited me to tag along as soon as he found out he drew the tag. It was quite the task to quarter and cut up all the meat for the two of us, I think it took almost 3 hours. We were able to get the truck to it and set up an easy up to keep out of the sun. Hauled the meat back to Tucson in several ice chests and dropped it off at Jonathon's. Can't wait to try out some buffalo! Got the shot on Video

    15 years of no harvest

Congrats on some of your streak busting! As a sub, I must say the part of your story paying your subs back after going under really hits home. It's commendable and I've met people over the years (23 yrs in the drywall trade) that didn't live up to their contracts at my expense, so kudos for that.

Big bucks... What does it take?

Awesome thread, I'm learning lots for sure! Here is my plan for next season. First, with lots of money I will buy a key to a locked gate. Then scout said area with ultralight. After locating big buck, I will then hire outfitter to hang cams over salt with corn and hay placed on top. When my season opens, I will have 15-20 guys on every hill that can call me and let me know when to get out bed (my added touch). if I get "lucky", and a shot opportunity presents itself, I will request my outfitter place my rifle on a tripod with the claw on it, but I will only pull the trigger if it is a hybrid! Big bucks, big buck, no whammies CMON! I will then make the 1000 yard shot or two or three or four on my big buck and I will post it up next yr! Thanks for all the tips and tricks, I have it figured out now! And for you guys that said dedication, hard work, patience and time spent in the field....... Your answers sucked
