2009 arizona dream buck (133 P&Y inches)
gotcoues replied to archery nut's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Wow!!! What a buck, great job on the recovery as well. -
So very cool to see your hard work pay off. Always enjoy your pics you post. Congrats on your beautiful buck, I can only hope I can tear up my rifle tag. I spent 26 hours on stand, rain or shine. Passed 8 diff bucks at 15 yards or less opening weekend to wait for something special. Your buck is truly what dreams are made of!!!! Nice Job Clay

I passed on a spike at 15 yards, put my bow on the hook and grabbed the camcorder instead. I've been wanting to try those broadheads too.

Well I think you have a valid point of too many hunts in one unit, but I wouldn't reduce jr opportunity. I have three children that are ten or older and I think the jr hunts are the best thing going in the hunt structure. Lower tag fees and less pressure during their hunts is only fair for younsters. Deer hunting can be a very challenging affair, the youngsters need a little extra edge IMO. Be careful, seems like a lot of youngsters on this site. We've see a lot of "Mob" mentality going on as of late. LOL... They might come for ya

The general area is somewhere above 3000 feet elevation. Sorry Tracy, I couldn't resist.

Who is for or against squaring bonus boints?
-
Very interesting discussion.... Personally, I think the system is pretty solid, but how does everyone feel about squaring your bonus points. I believe Utah possibly does this, and it seems like a great idea to me. I think this way the people at the bottom have a very slim chance for at least a while for "Trophy Hunts". But, their not thrown under the bus either. I believe people who have been waiting and waiting should get preference and I believe squaring points would help out a lot. I don't think any hunter deserves preference over another, other than the price of tag. I believe the long wait should be the criteria for change.

I would recommend checking the AZGFD site every evening. They'll tell you to look Monday Night or Tuesday Morning, because they update once of week on Mondays. They do post during the week also, if so, those classes are full come Monday. Too much demand in Tucson unfortunately. I barley got my son into the class over at PSE and I was checking the website often. Good luck, you'll need it.

I have a few wildview cams like the one you posted, how much for a few of those ironman boxes?

$649.99 Leupold Mark 2 Tactical T1 Rifle Scope 6-18x 40mm Adjustable Objective Mil-Dot Reticle Matte 1/4in. MOA also availible for a bit less w varmint reticle I have been looking at scopes for my new rifle and I'm leaning towards the this one. I picked up a Weatherby Vanguard 300 wsm in stainless and I'm getting a bit lost over picking a scope. I like both ideas of tactical and/or a ballistic mil-dot. I don't have much experience with higher end scopes and I'm hoping to prevent buyer remorse. This scope is in an acceptable price range for my budget and seems to have everything I could want or need minus maybe 50MM. $629.99 Burris 6.5-20x50 Fullfield TAC 30 Tactical 30mm Rifle Scope Mil-Dot Reticle 1/4 MOA This one seems comparable to the Leupold I would love some feedback and/or advice. I know a lot of you guys are very knowlegeable and would like to hear from you.

Jonathon is the man, he accepts game at any hour day or night with an ahead phone call. I wouldn't go anywhere else. WGP is an A plus business!!!!

When I get ready for season I practice out to 70 and a little at 80. My hope is to be able to take a 60 yard shot with confidence if need be. To date, I have never shot at an animal past 60 yards. To each his own though, if the proper preparations are taken. Justin

Got to love that!!! Very nice

Thanks for the advice guys. I started another post to let people know there was a class available this morning when I checked the website. My complaint, there are just too many problems with the way things are run. I have voiced my opinion directly to G & F Education department, and get no interest responses every time. You are simply told to check the website Monday night or Tuesday morning. Again, I have a big complaint about that advice. The class I signed up for this morning was not even posted Monday night or Tuesday morning of this week. The weekly update was inplace though. I found this class added to the schedule this morning. Now, for all the people who check this coming Monday night, well they will certainly be out of luck. The class is almost full now and will most likely be full before Monday night when they check for updates on new classes. I understand this is a voluteer taught, the instructors are fabulous and great with the kids. This will be my third class with my children. This problems lies with management, not with the instructors. It's just frustrating they can't add a waiting list for parents. I have a feeling that a lot of the instructors have people signed up before the classes are even posted. If you don't personally know someone, you have a clear disadvantage for sign up. Justin

Is it just me or does it seem like the Tucson classes for hunter safety are few and far between compared to other places? This will be my third and final youngster in need of the class, and it appears the waiting game is on again. The Tucson classes seem to be half full before there even posted? So, I wait with baited breath each week for a class to pop up and nothing. I was told the classes seem to run more frequent Aug/Sep, but that is pushing it for an Oct youth hunt (considering if might fill up without you) and/or my personal desire to archery hunt. Seems to me summer would be an excellent time to pack in these classes. Has anyone else had the same experience here in Tucson? Better yet is there someone qualified to teach the class that could be swayed into a class in the near future? I would prefer to put my youngster in the class setting over the internet class like his siblings before him. I would be happy to pay a fee for the convenience of more classes than for the volunteer low fee or no fee classes, considering the lack there of. Is it just me? Justin

A class is starting Aug 6th at PSE, it is the combo course. They posted it online in the middle of the week, so if you check on Mon night when they're supposed to update, it may be full. Call Instructor Bob Bonko 520-825-9053 to sign up for the class Here's the link to the info http://www.azgfd.gov/i_e/edits/hunter_education.shtml Justin

Your post was getting me a little angry, then I opened the "birth certificate". LMAO -
I did check sportsmans, my other son's class was there two years ago. Same deal, they are volunteer classes usually by a Game Officer. I will talk to whoever is assigned to reserving the room, maybe they can write our name down so we get into the next available. I can't believe the Game and Fish website doesn't have a sign up page/waiting list. This is the third time I've mentioned that I think that would be a good idea and they could see how many people are waiting in a specific area. I get very little response from the education department to that one, EVERY TIME. With all the talk about bringing a child into outdoors and introducing them to hunting, you'd think there would be more emphasis on keeping up with the safety course classes. My experience has been 90%+ are young kids taking the class. Personally, I think the classes are great and Tucson needs to pick up the pace a bit. Phoenix offers so many more classes from week to week, it's a little frustrating. Justin

I'm bummed, I bought a 12ft enclosed and have wished I had looked into something like your trailer instead. My trailer is new and I would have traded in a heart beat. I use my trailer for camping/hunting only. Paid 3000.00 The image of "your" trailer has been bouncing around in my head for a the last, just haven't acted on it yet. Thought I would pay a lot more for something like that? Just assumed.... I hate Craigs list LOL

I'm trying to avoid the online class, I feel my son would be better served with the actual classes. Two of my children have completed the traditional class, I also took the class with my daughter. I would like to take the class one more time with my son. The class would be a good experience for him and I would consider it quality one and one time if I took it with him. The internet course in nothing but homework IMO. Two down, one more to go! I can't break tradition now, my son has impatiently waited for "his" turn for the class for many years. My two oldest are hooked on hunting and I see them being involved with hunting for years to come. My youngest, I have a feeling with be the "hardcore" hunter of the three. Something about him tells me the obsession has already begun, with only a jack rabbit to his credit. LOL Justin
