My understanding is that unless you can tell it was from natural causes, you cannot take the head. I didn't realize hide mattered, I thought it was strictly cause of death for determining whether you can posses the antlers or not.

Tracy filled me in on this and it sounded fantastic. Reading through these posts makes me realize it was even much more than that. I would love to have my daughter participate next year as she is yet to harvest a Javy and I would also enjoy helping out the other ladies as well. What a great deal indeed Ilene, "pig whisperer" That's hilarious!!!!! Why use a predator call when you can talk dirty to em and they come trotting in.

Agreed, lets see some more pics. Pretty neat mount

I like the look so far and agree with most on what's been said. For me shopping online is about quickly being able to navigate through the website and item description. Lot's of websites are so generic and the hunting community is generally very picky on what they want to buy and why. So details, details, details and plenty of pics are a must for each item in my opinion. If you force someone to research your products on other sites you might lose the sale. I'm looking forward to checking it out when your up and running. Good job on what you've got going there. I like the idea of constantly rotating different pictures for your home page. Stills from Video clips would be neat as well if the hunter and quarry were both in it. (Your Avatar) Anyway... Good luck

Come to think about it, I think mine are they MP 1.3. Model number is stc-tgl1, sounds like this type will do you just fine. They come in two packs as well I think. It has a 1, 5 or 10 minute setting for taking pics. Also the test mode is really easy to use on these.

I have a few of the cheaper wildviews, I think they are 2mp with the flash. They take 4 C batteries and can last almost a month with over a thousand pics taken. They are very basic with little adjustments or features. Trigger speed is a tad slow so placement and angle is key with these. I've heard the more expensive wildview cameras lose some reliability?, but I don't have experience with those. I'll put them out if I feel it's too risky for a better quality cam. I do think for the price they are the best cheapy camera. I've had bad luck with the older moultrie cams myself and wouldn't recommend them.

Take I-10 to I-19 then off at Ajo. Traffic will only be slow from Ruthrauff to Congress (just a few plus miles) and only at 730 to 9. Traffic still flows fine, nothing like Phoenix.

Hey guys and gals, I was hoping some of you could share some pics of your javelina mounts if you have one. My taxidermist said he's ready to do mine soon and I need to make a decision on pose and whether it will be a floor or wall mount. I googled javelina images and there wasn't a lot to look at. Any and all pics appreciated. Thanks Justin

Very cool! I like the family pic for sure. Wish my older son would've went out with Dillon and I, pretty sure we had the makings for a DOUBLE as well. Good job troops!

Last year Dillon was able to harvest his first deer and also was the first youngster in our family to harvest a coues. Muleys for the others but we hadn't sealed it yet on a coues. This year I explained to D we would only be able to hunt Saturday and a half day on Sunday due to him missing a bit a of school the prior week (sick sick sick) and the Steelers game last Sun. Go Steelers! Saturday morning Dillon and I started glassing from a ridge where we'd been successful in the past for locating pigs but had failed to seal the deal due to the very thick terrain and abundance of cat claw we had to plow through. No pigs were sighted Saturday morning, but we glassed up quite a few coues and a ruttin three point following a hot doe. We decided to move locations and travel to a higher elevation where we had seen some pigs during the boys deer hunt in Oct. There was a deep mine shaft that a herd of pigs seemed to be frequenting. With no luck at the mine, we had lunch and took a well needed mid-day nap. We sat down to start glassing again about 330 and our first spot produced only a couple horses and some cattle. We moved to our next vantage point and as we were side hilling looking for a good spot for us to glass from, I spotted movement across the small cut below us. I could make out three deer with the naked eye. Told D to be extra quiet and we set up in hopes of seeing some more rut action. Before I could even get a look at the all the deer to check for a buck, pigs walked right through my field of view while glassing the deer. SCORE!!! I informed Dillon that I had pigs at close range and he was absolutely ecstatic! He hadn't even got his binos on his tripod yet. We only had to move about 10 yards, just to clear out from behind some octotillo I was worried might cause problems with the shot. I set the rifle up on the gun claw and we got everything adjusted so D was comfortable. He was able to get pigs in the rifle scope before I could even get them back in my glasses. He let me know he had two pigs in the scope and I slowly cranked it up to twenty power. He told me he was shaking and nervous and I said, "that's what it's all about!" Take your time and take deep breaths and shoot when you're ready. It seemed like forever and about three times or so I told him to breath and follow through the blast and try to see the bullet make impact (KEEP EYES OPEN). Wouldn't ya know at the spit second I took my eyes out of the glasses to look at Dillon and see what was going on, the shot rang out. It sounded good as I definitely heard a whaap sound. But I couldn't see a wounded pig or downed pig in my glass. The shot was roughly two hundred yards and Dillon said it felt good, so we packed up the gear and started to walk over. About three-quarters of the way over there, we ran into some of the herd. There was a big boar standing at twenty yards and had no clue we were there. As we stood there excited to have pigs so close, more walked towards us getting to a whopping 5 yards before they figured out we were standing there. At that point, they boogied out of there. We were tense not knowing if we had a pig down, but obviously had no choice but to let them walk in hopes of success being just a few yards away. It took no time at all and we practically walked right up to Dillon's Javy. He was jumping for joy and it was all hugs and smiles as we gazed upon his quarry. QUICK FUNNY..... Dillon's older brother Cody decided to be lazy and not go out and hunt Saturday. First time ever he's missed an opportunity to hunt when he had a tag in his posession. We skinned and quartered the pig Sunday morning and Monday morning, Colleen my girlfriend fired up the crock pot and dropped in a one of his quarters and some meat cuttings to prepare some barbeque shredded Javy for dinner. That night at the dinner table as we all had our first bites of our meal, Dillon leaned over and asked Cody,..... "How does my victory taste brother?" I swear my gut was gonna explode, as I was laughing so hard. Cody had not a word to say about missing out on the hunt.

He is a monster 4 sure! He asked me when we were standing over his pig if I'd always be his hunting partner and would we still hunt together when he's older. I replied, "Son, you'll be pushing me around in a wheel chair out in the desert when I'm old and grey, that's how long we'll be huntin together."

Thanks for the kind words Mike. Josh, No I didn't, I'm bummed too. Still working on my remodel at home and I've been swamped with company work. It's been killin me not having time to go hunt to try and fill my tags. I'm just glad I refused to let my workload interfere with bro time with Dillon! I'm gonna hit it hard come August and I plan on sitting in my stand soooo long I'll have a full beard by the time I climb down from my perch. I plan on making it 3 for 3 on Coues. I did finally start sighting in the new bow though.

I guess I should have put the finished mount in this thread. I think I started a new one to show off my mount. Bret, owner of Game Trail Taxidermy in Surprise has been doing all my mounts for years now. I think this is the best Javelina mount I have ever seen hands down, I couldn't be happier. Lot's of my friends agree and I really appreciate Bret's effort he put into this mount. Every time I walk by I want to grab my bow and put another arrow through em cause I swear he's still alive LOL

I'll take the steelheads off your hands. Call me when you get a chance and I'll come get them or I can meet you somewhere. Justin 520-240-8796

I think they should sell ANY OTC tags to a hunter that didn't tag out, deer included. I'd like to see tags prices remain steady for a while and this should help I would assume. Just doesn't make sense an unsuccessful hunter can't go purchase another tag and try again if there are some left over. Archers frequently hold two tags for deer and can only fill one, what's the difference? If a rifle deer hunter is unsuccessful in Oct and there are left-overs for Nov, I don't see the harm in him purchasing another tag.

I believe scent issues can be an overwhelming obstacle while sitting, waiting to ambush a WT (big or small). If you sit long enough he's bound to make a mistake. I've seen some discouraging stuff from high above in my stand. The deer know "something" is wrong and will come close and then spook and go back where they came from without every coming into bow range. I seem to have more issues with scent control than others. Good luck and patience is key. Crop the pics and post em please. Love to look at Big WTails :-)

You can get these for 5 or less just by shopping ebay or being somewhat patient. Great Glass for that price. I own two pair and am working on purchasing a third. (small homegrown army of young hunters in my house)

That's a neat mount, glad you were able to find him with tag in hand.

I'm so sorry for your family's tragic loss. This story has got me breaking down in tears. God bless you and your family.
-
My first opinion was he might go 350, it looks a was a bit high from the other posts. Great fronts, great looking bull for sure.
-
Yes you can. I believe if it was an over the counter tag, it could be replaced anywhere I.E. Wal-mart. I'm pretty sure permit tags must be replaced at G and F.

Buck are much less interested in salt after they shed their velvet. You can have specific bucks coming consistently during the week and then pretty much gone when they shed. I think they have different cravings while in velvet. Does seem to hit salt year round much more consistently than bucks.

And just so you know, that guy Gr8WhiteJr got prettly much all C's LOL, Sorry T My vote is C's or better are a bare minimum to go hunting as a rule of thumb.
