  1. I may be misinformed, but I believe this buck was taken in 1994 on the auction tag. This is Stephen Walker with a super duper Coues buck. Dunno who guided him or where (maybe one of you can fill in the blanks???). I've had these pics in my album for a decade. In fact.........these pics sparked my interest in Coues deer. What a whopper of a buck and a beautiful animal! Coues deer, IMHO, are the most beautiful of all North American deer, without a doubt. This one is quite handsome. I would be ecstatic if I took one like this! What a great game animal and fascinating deer. On another note, this is my first Coues buck taken in January 1998 on the San Carlos 26A. I stayed in Globe and drove in every day. Check out his neat winter coat with long guard hairs. My schedule that year caused me to apply for one of my VERY few non-public-land hunts. I paid $900 for the tag. Amanda (when she worked for the tribe) sent me to Hog Mtn for a 90" buck. I saw one early on, and passed on a 400 yard shot while he was moving. I took this buck at the end of the hunt, and was very happy with my first Coues buck. He scores 23 6/8 B & C, with great 7" main beams and and a fantastic 8" spread. I think I should have him officially measured for the AZ record book, don't you all, LOL? Still, a beautiful animal. This is the spot where I whacked him. I surely love the AZ desert country and the unique vegetation.
  2. Ray, Are you saying I'm predictable, LOL? Are you actually being nice to me (not kidding)??? You all can check out those muley pics on the AZOD forum. TLH doesn't delete my posts and look down on me because I'm a Secular Humanist.
  3. KGAINES, thanks for your classy post. It is a rarity to read one like yours on a hunting forum. Thanks, Keith. muliehunter, you are totally missing my point. I have nothing against Christians, and I require the same from them of me. What I am against........ is a Christian evangelizing and judging me (thanks for that appropriate word, Rembrandt) against my wishes. Diamondbackaz, you are also totally missing my point, and have waaaaaaaaay too much time on your hands. It's not about judging people.......or pushing people's buttons (which I totally hate doing, LOL).......but about someone registered or empowered on this forum judging people based solely on their religious (or lack thereof) beliefs. I have been persecuted and moderated on this forum based on my beliefs. For those of you that haven't hit the website yet, Secular Humanism is another term for Atheism, the ultimate "bad word" on a Christian based website. Religious differences and prejudices that grow into complete hatred has caused more wars and has killed more people than anything else in the history of this world. Check out the constant Middle East battles as well as the genocide that has taken place on this planet. I'm disappointed in people that propagate this.
  4. Still don't have an answer on the religious issue here. Maybe Ernesto or Amanda or the many other Christian members here can offer me one. I'm eagerly awaiting.......... I don't judge others by their religion, and I require the same of them. Religion just doesn't enter into my relationship with a person. I view it as their personal right to believe in their own religion. My lifelong buddy is LDS and not once has he or his family pressured me to convert..............not once. And I lived with them one entire summer in Oregon. I believe that a persons mind is his/her own, not to be artificially influenced by others. In fact.........I encourage it.................and would not be friends with anyone who is weak minded. I have many friends around the west, and not once has any one of them judged me or tried to influence me. I have friends that I've known for 15 years and have no idea what their religious beliefs are or whether or not they attend church on Sunday. Likewise with me. My lady friend is a sweetheart who reads the bible constantly.......and was raised a Christian.............and not once.......and I mean not once........has the subject come up between us. So...................... grow up and knock it off you judgemental, pius, HypiChristians on this forum. I have a bunch of trophy muley mount photos taken from around the west to post for your enjoyment. If I receive positive response to this post, I'll do it.

    North to Alaska

Hey Doug, Would you PM me when you get back? I'm anxious to hear about your trip and see your pics and was it all worth it. I need a change.........real bad. I've been thinking about that hunt for a few years. Kinda neat to sleep on a boat and hunt oddball deer on the beach. Hope you had a good one.
  6. Wow Dan, Love to hunt quail!!! I grew up huntin' scalies and gambel's in southern New Mexico with my Grandpa. Once, I got seven..........yes that's 7.............gambels in one shot. They coveyed up in a mesquite bush due to a hawk flying overhead. When I walked up.........they scurried out.....but still bunched up due to fear of the hawk overhead. I pulled down on them and pulled the trigger. Didn't really know what I was doin' as I was just a kid. I was just trying to get one. My Grandpa said "bullsh$t sonny" when I told him I had 7 quail in my pack. I laid them out for him on the tailgate, and he quieted down quite a bit, LOL. In his many years of hunting quail, he had only taken 3 in one "potshot". I drew 31 Coues November this year. Take care.
  7. TLH, Check out my response to your PM tomorrow at work. Call me, dangit, and let's talk some REALLY interesting stuff. I'm thinking of applying for my AZ guide license. Sorry to expose you as a friend of mine..........but you started it, LOL. Take care, Terry.
  8. Been made aware of this thread by a few AZ buddies. My main question is..................What's in it for me??? Put downs..........a$$ chewing..........unfair moderation.........religious persecution (in no particluar order)??? Given no good whiskey and women recommendations..............I just don't see the point in posting any more. Can't you guys at least recommend George Dickel 90 prooof over JD before judging me? Some of you guys are accusing me of being somebody I never was. That has been going on for years, here. I always get a kick out of the totally false accusations of me. You guys need to hire a detective or something. Many of you don't even have a clue as to how far off base you are. Doug-RR seems to be the most perceptive and fair-minded of you all. I actually enjoyed it (and didn't know who in the heck you were referring to) in your BHD post. I'm flattered, but there is only one CHD. Sounds like I should track down this BHD feller........don't it? He sounds like my type of hunting buddy. Mike F would you call me one of these nights at 928 757 1924? Dang Mike...........are you afraid of me??? We're only a couple hours apart. This is a strong Christian based forum. As a long time member and financial contributor to this website, I know this for a fact. Many members (and the management here) have made this VERY clear. It is totally out-of-line to mix huntin' with religion. I am a Secular Humanist by religion, and I expect to be treated equally to others when I contribute here. So.............what's it gonna be???
  9. Nothin for me in CO, as I put in for points only. Have 9 elk points and 4 deer points and 8 pronghorn points. Likely will strive for a 10 or 61 elk tag, 21 deer tag, and 161 antelope tag in the future. Nevada cost me $192 for a license and 3 applications just to gain points! OUCH! This has been the case for several years now. Official draw results are next week, but I understand they are starting to hit the credit cards now. Nothing for me.....yet. Went all or nothing in NV too, NW corner for muleys, NW corner for goats, and Ely for elk. I will drop dead if I draw anything.......but I do have quite a few points for pronghorns....... How 'bout you guys?
  10. Several states now have 'em. Auction tags sponsored by a wildlife conservation organization that go to the high bidder that allows the hunter an extended statewide season. Some sell for six figures. The winning bidder usually gets to hunt during the rut and on the winter range, too. Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, and I believe Wyoming has 'em. There may be other western states as well. Proponents say that the $$$ generated is a huge amount that can be spent on wildlife conservation. They feel that "one animal dies..........so that others can live". They feel that a tremendous amount of money can be gained from one single tag versus a huge number of tags, which benefits game numbers and hunters. Opponents feel that to take one monster animal out of the gene pool is way too many. They state that it is unfair to whack a trophy animal on the winter range when he is defenseless or during the rut when he is vulnerable. They feel that this is strickly a rich man's hunt, that the common man can't even touch. And hunting shouldn't be a rich man's sport. What say you?
  11. Nice buck Rich, Thanks for the post. What kinda age was he? I see a thick nose and sagging jaw on him.

    Who pee'd on my antler?

I know this thread has been hijacked and is being flown to Cuba, but.........this one's for you .25-06. I just changed my sig............just for you. You should feel privileged that I respect your input! I need to talk to you about which of the 4 ladies at work I should try out first.............

    Who pee'd on my antler?

It was prolly your wife............who resented you spending too much time out in the hills rather than with her.
  15. CHD Well, thats a good question. I would have to say Desert Bighorn for sure! But all the sheep are truly awesome to me. I almost booked a Dall`s sheep hunt last year but I just couldn`t swing it. I hope to someday before I get to dang old. There is something about a big Ram and a big Coues`s buck that just rock my world! later on Chris, Rich Dang Rich, I didn't know you were a sheep nut. Because of this revelation...........I just don't know if we can be friends any more. Sheep are barnyard animals.........you know..........like pigs and goats and ducks and geese and chickens and turkeys and cats. I don't hunt the barnyard animals, Rich. PS - PM me one of these days when you have a few. Take care.
  16. Your dream big game hunt and animal.........that is. If money were no object, and you could only hunt and harvest one more animal in your remaining lifetime............and you could hunt anywhere in the world for one animal.......................which animal would you choose? Some of the sheep guys play up the Altai Argali or the Gobi Argali. Others want the Markhor or the elephant or leopard. Some want some unknown antelope in Africa. Some want the North American desert sheep. Many have been after a monster Alaska/Yukon bull moose. But..........what would you choose? Mine would be an interior Grizzly, no contest. A blonde one with long fall hair and dark chocolate hair covered legs that lived in the Yukon. What a magnificent animal! Saw one at my taxidermist that was a lifesize mount in a really neat pose. Sure would like to have one like that in my living room. Ride for a couple days just to get into his territory. Catch him feeding in a patch of blueberries with nobody around except me and him. Sneak up on him and get real close with the wind in my favor. Snow covered mountain peaks in late September with lots of fall colors coating the hillsides. Holy cow. Sooo.........what's yours?
  17. Me personally I would say that the elusive desert ghost I mean this is coueswhitetail.com and the coues is the greatest big game to hunt. Nothin' wrong with that selection.........
  18. So far..........Grizz is #1..........Polar Bear a close second. Chupa-abracadabra (a cross between a Coati and a mexican goat) number three.............with a tired, worn out old grandpa (like Mr. Quimby???) a close third. How 'bout the rest of you? What say you, Lark? Mr. Quimby, what have you not taken yet? And lastly..........when is the last time you have given your opinion on this forum Amanda???
  19. A 8" leopard lizard................................ Ran over a couple of those today...........they don't count. spotted owl sounds good to me...and maybe one democrat. Has to be legal.................... The last animal I would ever take in my life? I would want it to be a nice mature Bull Elk from Az. Sorry........... you can't draw a tag anymore............the kids get all of 'em.
  20. witout a doubt it would be a Chupacabra. A whattttttttt?????

  23. CHD, The last time I was up in Telluride, there was a jeep that rolled off that road up to Bridal Vail falls. Unfortunately, both people were killed in the accident. That is one serious road. The night life in Telluride isn't bad either, but it is a little on the weird side... Yeah, that wreck happened on Black Bear in '04. It was a older couple from Kansas......in a tan Rubicon just like mine. I had that in my mind when I went down the road. Dunno if they had a mechanical problem or weren't paying attention, but it rolled almost 1000'. A guy on the road downhill ahead of them saw the jeep roll by behind him in his rearview mirror. The jeep rental places in Silverton and Ouray won't let renters do Black Bear. Its not that its difficult, but it can be terrifying for a flatlander tourist. And you can't back out after you're into it.............. Diamondback, I had my pic incorrectly labeled Stormy Pass when it is indeed Stoney Pass between Silverton and Rio Grande reservoir. Schofield Pass has a hair-raising section as well. Many years ago, a suburban full of 7 people rolled off and all were killed there. Here's a few more. This is from the top of Imogene Pass @13,500'+ looking north toward Camp Bird. A little further down Imogene. From Imogene looking southwest toward Telluride.
  24. Spent some time in my Rubicon last fall in the most scenic part of the Rockies, IMO. Ouray is pretty lonesome in the late fall. Black Bear Road "You don't have to be crazy to drive this road but it helps" sung by CW McCall (Convoy) in the 1970's. That's him on the right. The sign is long gone.........but the song remains. The beginnings of Black Bear Road in early September. A little way into Black Bear Road, looking due west. Looking west. Looking west down the one-way Black Bear Road @ Telluride (To-heck-U-Ride). A better view of Telluride. The INFAMOUS, nasty, small-vehicle-only switchback down the one-way Black Bear Road (I said DOWN one-way) and the baddest, ugliest switchback in the USA. Not too bad in my Jeep, but a BEEEEEEECH in a larger vehicle. Bridal Veil Falls Powerhouse looking back uphill going down Black Bear Road. The Black Bear Road that I just drove down. The Power House is in the center. This road is.....down hill only. A "View from the Top" @ Engineer Pass. Looking SE from Engineer Pass @ 13,000+ feet. Looking west from the famous Engineer Pass. Looking south at the magnificent San Juans from Engineer Pass. Looking due west at the famous Mt. Sneffels and Sneffels Range (in the far distance) from Engineer Pass.
  25. Doug and Dodger2, Glad you guys enjoyed the post. I was hoping that someone on this forum would recognize that country. I surely enjoyed that trip. Since its unlikely that I'll draw any tags this year (I went all-or-nothing in all states.......again), I will prolly return to the San Juans for a week this fall for some more of the same. Gotta get there before mid-September as it can be snowed in that early. Prolly just motel it as I go, whether I end up in Lake City, Silverton, Ouray, Ridgeway or Creede. Just play it by ear with no set agenda. Whatever I feel like doin' that day. The scenery is TERRIFIC. The hot springs pool in Ouray attracts the NUMEROUS mountain biker gals. Most are tan and firm and in terrific shape, even the middle-aged ones. Orvis Hot Springs in Ridgeway allows nude bathing.......plus whiskey drinking..........and them girls look even better without their tights on. The bars in Ouray are a terrific pick-up spot that time of year, and the Lake City/Gunnison women are hot for out-of-town men. The Silverton women like to get their last rays of sunlight on their naked tan bodies before winter. Oh, and by the way, the mountains and aspens are scenic, too.
