Seems our anti pals are hitting the internet hard these days... Has anybody read up on them?

The Ghost. Unit 40B South Tinajas Altas Mountains. The WM caught a glimpse of him Summer of 2015 and that was the last sighting of the glorious ol' boy. We have not seen him on cam since mid summer 2015. I ran into him once while scouting my hunt year 2012. At 70 yards I just about soiled myself. Rams always look funny when they run, but the fun part about watching him was the fact that he had to stop and cock his head a certain way in order to see me because of those horns. He is a true legend and I know I will spend some time looking around for his remains. #redramsrule

List of successful hunters, scores, etc

There is a list printed with names, score, unit of kill, and first choice #'s. It is procured directly from the GFD individually, then circulated heavily via email. -
Middle of nowhere desert muley. Closest farm is about 28 miles.

The running joke is that the hunter has been residing under a Palo Verde tree out there for the last 4 months. He did it all himself, I've known him since we were born and he is an animal when it comes to hunting.

azdeserthunter, The Big Boy or Ghost is the legend that dreams are made of simply because he is a Ghost. I got to come face to face with him while scouting by myself and that was enough for me. I would rather have a ram like him roam my favorite mountain range for as long as I live if only in my dreams. I was stoked last year to help a man that hunted hard carry a smaller ram off of a very tough hill. When I was asked how he scored my reply was "Awesome". The best part of my hunt was the time spent learning about these magnificent animals. I value the time I get to spend on water projects and I do stop and take the time to do repairs on water holes when out by myself. I have the ram of my dreams in my living room, I have the memory of my hunt in my head, I have the friends that helped me in my life, and I have my guides money in my bank account. My prerequisite for sheep hunting was to find the ram that I loved and I did. Not because of his score, but because he has red horns and I knew from a mile away that he was the challenge that I needed in my life.

By my September pics of the "Ghost" you better hurry. He has been healthy in all previous years photos but lately is traveling alone and tired. I swear to the good lord that if he disappears without a tag on his horns I will spend a lifetime looking for his bones. I don't even think Ol' Flair will be the same without the big boy to keep him going. Jay, I would really like to share more pics with you for your best opinion of the old man's score.

After 46 years of applying for a Desert Sheep Tag Comm1 is gonna hunt this year. He has suffered through max point since its inception. Buen asuerte Casa De Lena.

Congrats on your tag Tom. There is an awesome inventory of those Red Horned Devils down there and you won't be disapointed. We'll see ya on the Camino del Diablo. Good luck. DP

As Heat said it helps a lot if you hunt close to home. My pals all wanted to help and I couldn't keep the guys that live close away from scouting. Daddy told me when I was a kid, "The hard part is getting drawn, it ain't hard finding sheep, it's hard finding the one you want." God bless his soul, he was right on all accounts. 2012 was my luckiest year on record, drew an awesome tag and harvested an awesome ram that I am proud of. I had 11points and I can see the mountain I killed on from my back porch. IF you draw the tag, the most important thing is to find one of those stinkers that you are happy with and proud of, after all, you are the one that has to live with him the rest of your life, hanging as close to your bed as the missus will allow. REDRAM, REDRAM, REDRAM!!!! Yes I am obsessed with the red rams. DP -
1223 License Simplification Bill
SpeedGoat posted a topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Attention to all: The AZGFD is holding public input meeting in the next few weeks to get our feedback into the new license structures and fees. They have brought up "premium" tags and licenses. Last year a certain piece of legislation got everyone's camo panties in a bunch about the King's deer. This is YOUR chance to be heard, so now is the time to speak. I am not being a fear monger just wanted to give you a heads up to get in the game. Luck, wishes, and prayers, DP -
A great conservationist that had just begun to flex his might, as a voice for all of us, passed last week in a hunting accident. Brian will be missed by all of those that he came into contact with. A memorial service will be held on Monday the 13th.

Amanda I think it is time that the Hunter Angler Heritage Work Group (HAHWG) had it's own subforum on the best message board on the internet. What do we need to do to make that happen? DP

Donnie, Whenever we do a project politics always comes into play. Whether it be that it took six years for the money/permits to come through or its the latenight/way after dinner campfire talk. The people that want to be involved in the political speak will voice their opinion and those that don't will steer clear. Everyone should check out a project.....it is up to them if they want to get involved further. Sometimes the best ideas come from those on the periferal.

I have been a member of the YVRGC since 1998. I started out paying my dues so I could enter their big Javelina contest. This turned into just being able to support Jonhny and the Legislative leg of that organization. Two days after my dad's funeral some great friends took me on a club waterhole project in 2005 and I have been hooked ever since. I can now proudly say that I have been a club board member for the last three years, waterhole project co-chair for that long, legislative co-chair for two, and proudly represent Yuma on the HAHWG Steering commitee and group. Unfortunately I am a farmer and my schedule NEVER permits me to do all of the things I "want" to do. I feel pains in my heart everytime the club or the GFD asks me to do something and I have to tell them no, I guess I should play the lottery more regularly. I cannot express how important it is to support any group that works for what you believe in. If you think you are better off not "getting involved" you are dead wrong. You don't have to change your life to make a difference. Every penny and minute donated to a cause counts. The Good Lord knows I have donated more sweat than dollars, because it is what I can afford. There is a certain Species that actually costs me money. I see them weekly because I am on my farm all of the time. I see 60lbs. specimens and I don't shoot because I know that in that tiny instance that I get caught everyone that I will ever go up against will use it to take me down. So I contacted the G&F and worked with them to get a depredation hunt installed. It took awhile but not as long as a license suspension. Now I help hunters that have drawn tags find their prey. Daddy always said "Always act like they're watching." That is what I do and it feels good. If you stretch the truth or bend the law be ready to pay the fine. Whether I like "Uncle Ted" or not if he messed up, he messed up. I am glad he uses his celebrity to further our cause but he should have thought about it before he pulled a NO-NO in whatever state of the Union.

Commission meeting 4-14
SpeedGoat replied to ThomC's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
If a newcomer feels that they want to jump into the pool we should all embrace them and make them feel welcome. Let them know that they CAN make a difference. The first waterhole project I went on Johnny Fugate and a certain Region Four biologist made me feel like they couldn't do another project without me. Needless to say I feel guilty for every single project I miss, even though they are more than capable of making it happen. Donnie, thank you for you curiousity it will get you far. I encourage you to keep digging, as you wish. If you get tired or need a nudge I promise to be behind you to help. This should be the response that EVERYONE gives a newcomer to the conservation movement. Oh, and Donnie, the Department IS on our side and WANTS to help us. Regards, DP -

+1 TLH I couldn't agree more. It is the Arizona Game and Fish Department not the AZ Hunted and Fished Department. -

Thank you Don for the info. Keep it coming and NO Matter what your hard work is appreciated. DP -
The AWF needs to get things together in order to fill a soon vacant position on the Commission Selection Board. There are few Orgs that presently meet the criteria for that opening. Oklahoma is OK DP
