Bringing deer meat back into the US from Mexico
desertsheep replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Amanda, We have brought lots of deer meat back from Mexico. We tell our hunter's if they are going to bring it back to bring a extra ice chest. It doesnt really make a lot of sence that you have to boil and clean a skull but you can bring back meat just about any way you want. As for bring meat in to Mexico we have never had any problems. The info Tony posted in for entry in to the U.S. not into Mexico. I would'nt think the Mexicans would'nt really care if you brought elk, or deer in. -
Merry Christmas!

Just returned from the NWT where I was able to take the second ram towards my slam. While I was there I was lucky enough to tag a mountain caribou as well.
-
It really doesnt matter what he scores. Those NT bucks are hard to come by. You did good. If I was to guess 105 gross. Congrat's again.

I know you guys are probaly getting bored of this topic but here are a few more picture's. The first one is the helicopter they flew us in on and the second is the one they picked me up in and flew me back to base camp. When the hunt was over they sent in a float plane to pick us up. That was awesome to watch him land & take off.

HOLY MASS!!!
desertsheep replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Great buck's you've been posting Jim. Are they off a ranch you will be hunting?. I would of still been happy with 118. It's tough to judge mass on any animal -
Dove hunt turns into archery deer hunt!
desertsheep replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Good job Casey. I wouldnt have put the it on the velvet anyway. I always take photo's without the tag. You can put it the leg if you like. -
Some of the bigger stone sheep outfitters are getting around $35,000.00. The elevation is what really surprised me up there. We camped at 4500 ft. Here is some video I took with my digital camera. Sorry it's not that great.
-
Thanks again for all the comment. It's a trip you all need to do if you can. Here is a picture of a water fall I thought was pretty cool. This next picture kind of show's you some of the terrain we climbed in. If you look Just under the spotting scope that is the bench we camped on. We would climb anywhere from a 1000 to 1500 ft a day. It looks easy to get around in but it sucks. Everything is straight up and rocky. It's all shell and sharp. Gino could verify how ruff it is.

azshtr, While we were huntig in the NWT Greg had a accident involving a horse and broke his leg pretty bad on the last day of the hunt. He had to be flown out of the hunting area by helicopter to Norman Wells. Once he was there they took him to Yellowknife for Surgery. Apperently the doctor did'nt do that good of job. He going to have a couple other surgeries to fix the mistake from the first surgery. Keven,Yes I am planning on doing a full mount some what like my desert. Gino, I would love to do another dall but I have to get my stone booked before they get completey out of hand. I went with Ramhead outfitters. Who can see what I saw. Here is a couple other picture's you guys might like. I took this photo of a couple of guide's who were trying to stalk the first ram. While they were setting there the second ram came over the top and was only 10 ft away.

Thanks evrybody, It was truly a hunt of a lifetime. Az Griz, That is really to bad that he wont be able to use that tag. Hopefully he able to go desertsheep hunting in Dec. Gino maybe we can do a stone sheep hunt together. I am trying to get one done by 2009. Here is a fewpicture's for you bear guy's. Luckily we glassed these bear on a flat right before we dropped of a bench headed to another mountain to look for ram's. These are some photo's of my ram and his buddies on the first day that I past him up. they were at 212 yds. This one's through the spotting scope.
-
Yea Griz I'm guilty by assocation. Greg and I have been hunting and guiding together for that 4-5 years. The leg has gone from bad to worst. But I think he will do alot better now that he is in the states and a good doctor can look after him. How do you know the famous bronc rider. Here are a few other picture's I was able to take. On the first day I was flown in I had just got all my gear put away in to my mansion and I was getting excited to glass for some sheep. Something caught my eye and it was a wolverine on top of a dead ram. It wasnt until two days later that I was able to get up there and take a look. By then the wolf's, wolverine and the raven's and cleaned it up. Here is a picture of a wolf through my spotting scope. Here is where we stayed for ten days. And the pick up head.
-
Here are a couple of picture's of each. I'll add some other picture's of scenery and other thing's as we go . The ram is 36'' by 13.5. He's broomed back about 4'' on his right side. I passed this ram on the first day at 40 yds the again at 212 yds after he spooked. We decided to keep looking for that 40'' Dall but it didnt happen. On day 4 the rain and fog set in and I spent the next 4 days in a tent. I did take my caribou on the 5th day in the fog. Here is the caribou that I was lucky enough to take. He not a giant but I'm happy. Here is a few picture's of the fog that we had to deal with. I shot my caribou from the two little tree's you can see in the first picture on the bench in the back ground.
