Archery backpack Javi / Deer hunt
Couestracker replied to MULEPACKHUNTER's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
That's a great way to hunt and get away from people. Looks like fun and a good way to find some unpressured trophies. Great pictures! Thanks for sharing your hunt with us and good luck on your next trip. -
When are the '14 regs going to be out?
Couestracker posted a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
I saw in an earlier post they were out December 5 in 2011. Anyone got the scoop on when the 2014 hunt regs will be available? -
Those are beautiful calls. I expecially like the one with the turkey under glass. How can I purchase one from you? I agree with single shot, either burn it in or lazer engraving would be neat. I know someone set up to lazer in a production method if you are interested. Good luck in the National competition.

Fun in The Sun...My 2013 Buck
Couestracker replied to azryan's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Awesome buck, story and pictures. Even better to share your hunt with your family, that's what it's about right there. Congratulations! -
On my October coues hunt (story soon) I had been sitting and glassing for quite a while and hadn't seen anything. I was giving my eyes a break and just looking around when I saw something new in a small clearing. Now looking through my 10x42's, I see a coyote laying on it's belly, just looking around with its nose to the wind. Well, being the predator hunter that I am, I couldn't let this fawn killer walk. I ranged it at 172 yards. I set up my .270 WSM Winchester Coyote Outback on it, got out my triple threat open reed varmint call and let out a couple of squeals. It snapped its head in my direction immediately. I let out another squeal and when it got up and started towards me, I fired. I didn't miss! It dropped like a rock and didn't move again. I know 172 yards isn't really long range for big game, but it's my longest shot yet for a dead coyote.

After skinning, with fur side out, roll it up tight and freeze until ready to flesh and dry. If you're looking for how to skin, a couple of opportunities are coming up this month. Cabela's is having predator hunting seminars Jan 11th and 12th with Phoenix Varmint Callers Inc. club (PVCI) providing the people and expertise. There will be a skinning demo Saturday. The events are from 10:00 to 1:00 both days. Details and event schedules are at this link: www.cabelas.com/stores/store_info.jsp?pageName=015 Go to VIEW ALL EVENTS at bottom, then EVENTS for Jan 11th and 12th, then DETAILS. Another opportunity is PVCI is participating in the Annual Multi-Club Hunt, which is our Club vs all other Varmint Calling Clubs in the State. Besides a chance to hunt predators (you could help us) there is a skinning contest after the dinner, which is provided. The date is Saturday Jan 25. For details, check our web site at www.pvci.org, or pm me. Also, PVCI should be having our fur prep day, where we get together and flesh/stretch/dry hides in preparation for sale or tanning. When this event gets to the planning stage, there will be a notice on our site. That should be next month.

Ha ha, I'd love to have seen that! Thanks for the response and good luck with the cats.

Wow! How cool is that! What did you have in there to attract a javelina (I know that it was unintended)? What'd you do with him? Thanks for sharing this with us.

Congratulations to you and Scott on your successful hunts! Great post TJ, with good lessons for more inexperienced hunters to ponder. I'd like to try your sausage you made if you don't mind.

1st Coues Buck and it is a "Dandy"
Couestracker replied to mighteywhitehunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Awsome buck there! What will you do for an encore? Congratulations on your first coues and welcome to the site. -
That's amazing! What a rare trophy you have there. You should have a full mount done if you can swing it. Places like Cabela's or Bass Pro would pay big $$ to be able to reproduce that. Congratulations on a trophy of a lifetime!
