Another family adventure... Pic HEAVY!!!
Couestracker replied to SWINGBOW's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
What an incredible hunt you all had! Very cool, 3 generations hunting together. Those are memories to be remembered and cherished forever by all of you. Really nice deer and javelina. Your buck looks like part caribou! Lots of character there. Congratulations to all! -
That's what it's all about right there! Awesome your son got to share the experience with you. Congratulations! That's one heck of a beard on that turkey too! I'd like to see another picture of it if you don't mind. How long was it and what'd the bird weigh?

Hi, I hope you're taking your Daughter to the Youth Turkey Camp at Colcord Ridge. See writeup in turkey forum. To answer your questions; 1. Swing wide around and set - up in front of them. 2. Spot and stalk. 3. I've never seen a turkey take a drink. They get all their needed moisture from plants and bugs, but do go to water for those same things. Best of luck to your Daughter on her hunt.

That's an awesome find! Where was he calling home? How about a side photo please? Thanks for sharing!

That bird rocks! Cool hunt, congratulations. What'd your girlfriend think of it all?

Going up Friday, wondering if anyone has current info on what the birds are up to. Who else is going hunting this weekend? Good luck to all!

Posted April 09 2013 - 10:42 PM After not seeing or even hearing a bird for two days and getting beaten to my area of choice by other hunters Monday morning, I had to come up with plan "C". I drove to an area I've never been in, and started hiking in to try to make something happen. Well, I realized I had parked on a huge path of scratching that looked fresh, started following it and within 1/2 hour I heard my first gobble along with some hen yelps...the chase was on! I caught up to a flock of 14 birds, 1 good gobbler, some jakes and the rest hens. They responded to my calls, but kept heading where they wanted to go, so I had to stalk them. I got close 4 times, going over two ridges, across 1 meadow, and then we played zig and zag on this one ridge, until finally I saw them through an opening in the trees. They were moving in a single file, passing one by one through the opening. I didn't know if "my bird" had gone by yet, so I took aim and watched as they went by. Then the big gobbler appeared and I blasted him from what wound up being a 71 yard shot. He weighed 17.3 pounds and had a 9" beard! I packed it up amongst the high winds that started about then and beat the rain (and mud) home. 2 for 2 on the San Carlos! Me and 3 of my friends that "took me" turkey hunting for the first time (back in '04?) have tags for next year-should be a hoot...er...yelp of a time. The picture isn't very good, only got 3 before the camera croaked. Thanks for looking, Tommy UPDATE 1/31/2014: I just picked up my 2013 San Carlos bird from Sven at Wildlife Wings Designs. I had him do a walking pose, just like it was doing when I last saw it. Sven did his usual awesome job! I forgot how big this Tom was.

The Juniors turkey camp at Colcord Ridge needs volunteers. I've copied a letter from Rich Williams detailing the needs. All volunteers will be feed the whole weekend, plus it's fun and a great reason to be in the woods. The youth hunters are awesome and appreciate help from mentors. Contact Rich directly at 602-881-6815 or email at azgobbler60@gmail.com if you can help out the cause. Thanks. All, The juniors turkey hunt camp is right around the corner. April 18,19 and 20. We need volunteers. As usual I never have enough mentors to hunt with the youth and their parent. I need to know if you are coming. It is in fact Easter week end and I know that some mentors maybe going home Saturday night. What ever your plan needs to be I can still use your help for what ever time you can spare. We are in a very bad need for someone to run the registration. If we do not find that person, I will be stuck in camp instead of in the field with the kids. It is not a tough job however; a very critical function for camp. The future of hunting is in our hands. This is some of the most valuable time that you can give. We need your help to light the spark in these future hunters. Please let me know if you are in or out. We will be in camp Thursday afternoon. The camp flyer is attached. Youth Turkey Camp 2014-3.doc Thank you, Rich Williams

Thanks! That means that they're not going in alphabetical order, probably going in whatever order they have from the draw/cc issues. There's still some chance yet!
-
Congratulations! What letter does your last name begin with?
-
Call the AZGFD and speak to the game manager for that unit. I've found that they are willing to help with information.

I'll keep you posted...my card had fraudulent activity and was canceled just now. Yep, can happen to anyone. Of course I have to be drawn to find out if they'll call!

My condolences on the loss of your friend. Bitter sweet day indeed.

Congrats TJ! You rock man!

That's super cool! Congratulations!

I submitted my NM hunt applications yesterday (could have waited till this afternoon) and the results will be emailed to me on the morning of April 23 OR maybe the evening before, GUARANTEED! No muss, no fuss, no problems, no logging in or phone calls, no guesswork. AND it still might beat the Arizona results. Sad, so sad.

Very cute - congrats on the new addition. I had a Blue Tick/Walker mix, she was a great dog. But what a slobber machine!

The Annual Marvin Robbins Memorial turkey hunting seminar, presented by Desert Christian Archers, will be held TUESDAY March 18th at Calvary Community Church, 12612 N Black Canyon Hwy (between Cactus Rd and Thunderbird Rd). The seminar starts at 7:00, doors open at 6:30. Admission is free but it is requested that a contribution of at least 1 non-perishable food item be brought for valley food bank drive. This has been and continues to be the best turkey hunting seminar in the Valley, if not the western US. If you're looking to learn turkey hunting or even a veteran hunter, you don't want to miss this informative and fun seminar.

Have him mount it! [img=]http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/public/style_images/club_3_4/attachicon.gif]grey fox mount.jpg is that one of his mounts, and I really don't have the funds for that he did mention 1k for a full body mount with habitat, so many another time he gave me a really good price for the skin/ tan when another taxidermist quoted me $365 for the same thing I am also going to have cole van winkle do the skull. Sven at Wildlife Wings Design will do a full mount for $350, includes some habitat. You'll never have another first fox. His # is 623-451-7836. You can save up while he's doing it . and he did the one that you posted the pic of? No he didn't do that one. He does excellent work though, you can't go wrong with him...Plus he's a great guy.
