Leaving tomorrow for New Mexico hunt
Couestracker posted a topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
I leave tomorrow for my muzzleloader coues hunt. I have a full week off! (Thanks Julie!) The hunt doesn't start until Saturday, so I have plenty of time to get set up and do some scouting. This is the first of 3 coues hunts for me this year 😊.- 14 replies

Leaving tomorrow for New Mexico hunt

I came back from my hunt a day early because I was pretty beat up. This is some beautiful country, but also brutal. Lots of grass hiding lots of loose rock, making hiking extremely hard on the body, especially knees and the back. I hit the area hard and long for 4 and 1/2 days, but only saw 1 coues buck, a small 2 or 3 point, at 430 yds down in a canyon bottom just before dark. This was my 3rd whitetail tag here in 10 years and the first buck I've seen, so hey, next time should be great! I'm not complaining, I had a lot of fun, saw some awesome country, had a great campspot, found an Apache tear about the size of an avocado pit, and got to finally meet Kaffer62, who stopped by my camp after his successful "marathon" 12 hour hunt. 😊 Congratulations again Frank. Here's a few pictures: View from camp I wasn't exactly roughing it. Had the muzzleloader all dialed in. The San Francisco river canyon More pictures of the canyon area- 14 replies

I thought I'd make my 800th post about something awesome - I'm going coues hunting in Mexico at La Tinaja Ranch with my friend Mike again. This is where I got my double coues (105" and 124") and double javelinas all in 3 days! I'm stoked for sure. Plus I have 2 coues hunts before that. Anyone else going to Mexico for a hunt?

New Mexico Muzzleloader Success!
Couestracker replied to Kaffer62's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
Congrats again on your success! I saw my first buck today, a forky at 430 yds along the state fence, in the bottom of the canyon below the water tank. The sun was setting, so not enough time to make it happen. Extra thanks for saving me from myself, that's the second time I've tried to "lose" my Swarovski's! Nice to finally meet you Frank. -
I see you come from good stock Phil. Kudos to your Grandfather and also congrats to him on a great trophy bull. Amazing and cool!
