That's awesome! Good work too!

Anxious to hear which archery elk hunt I drew, but in the meantime, I leave for San Carlos a week from tomorrow! Went to the Desert Christian Archers (now Christian Hunters of America) sponsored turkey hunting seminar last night. It was a great seminar as usual, except I didn't win the Mexico guided Gould's hunt from Colburn and Scott outfitters. Oh well. Ammon from Little Creek Calls was there with some of his awesome calls he makes. I bought a couple of diaphragm calls and a couple of strikers from him. Thanks Ammon! Somehow I wound up short on strikers, wonder how that happened? Actually, the holders in my turkey vest are lame, gotta come up with something better. The strikers I got from him are really cool, they have bug holes in them, giving them more character. One has an acrillyc rod in it. (See pic) I'm working on another striker, mounting a bear claw on the end, just for something different. Will post when I finish, going to take it with me on the hunt, so I'd better get busy. I also am going turkey hunting in New Mexico on the 15th, after I get back from this hunt, then going straight to Colcord Ridge for the youth turkey camp as a mentor. Good luck to all the turkey hunters in the coming weeks!

Mine's still pending, no hunt #'s, zero bonus points.

Draw progress just changed to 80%.

New Mexico doesn't have a point system. If you are considering applying for hunts there, I'd highly recommend you read their hunting rules and regulations, it's a lot different than Arizona in some ways.
-
April 26 to be exact. ☺And they will send you an email! Not days later either, first thing! So wished Arizona would modernize our draw system!
-
It is full amount up front. I think it is a great system. No worries about having a credit card screw up during the draw and loosing a tag over it like you can in AZ. You either get a tag or you just gave NMDGF a short term loan that is repaid reasonably quickly. So my wife just let me put in for NM elk (Q unit) with a buddy from back home in Iowa. It was definitely a "charge your card up front" application. I marked the "refund if not drawn" box for my license/stamp combo and the screen said "You will be charged $847.00 for this transaction...", but the receipt that was emailed to me didn't have the license charge on it. My buddy asked me when the draw is and when we'd find out if we're drawn or not. I told him it was good question, but guessed late May/early June. Anyone care to enlighten me? Then I can tell my wife when to expect a refund on the credit card. I sent you a pm.

The draw progress graph shows 60% completed for charging cards. Since they charge when they draw, they're not finished drawing. It's interesting to note that folks on CWT have posted successful charges simultaneously for elk and antelope, so those 2 species are drawn concurrently. Still hope for an antelope tag for me!

Just checked again, payment processing at 60% now.

This morning the progress bar was still 100% completed from the spring draw. Now the bar is gone, so it's being updated. I drew an archery elk tag, was hoping for a speed goat tag with 16 points. Maybe still?
-
Congratulations! 17 points, no tag for me.....yet.

Got hit this morning for $270! A friend and I are archery elk hunting, second year in a row for me! Yahoo!! Good luck to all on this draw!

I thought I'd post a pic of some old finds-sorry, no ATL's. The elk shed is not only my first brown ever, but found on my first day of my first-ever turkey hunt, in 2004, unit 27. It's unique, it's just the eye guard. There was obviously some trauma to this bull early in the growing season. The antelope shed (sheath) was found (among others) on my first antelope hunt, in Wyoming, 2005. The Coues shed was found on my first Coues hunt in the Chiriquahua's, 2004. It's the smallest 3 point shed I've ever found.

Very nice, congratulations! -
Stoked to get out and do some calling. 3 of us going, 1 novice, he has never been varmint hunting before. This is the last PVCI hunt of this season. I haven't been out for a long time. Should be fun, will post a full report, good or not!

Awesome Phil, congratulations!

By the distribution map, they are around Socorro on the Rio Grande. Can it be that easy? Any experience with the area, is it all private? Thanks!

Going out calling this weekend-RESULTS

This is a recap of PVCI'S Novice 2 hunt, weekend of March 11th-12th. On Saturday, I took out Randy, our novice, for a 1/2 day hunt. He had an obligation in the afternoon, and Brian, the other Club hunter also had commitments on Saturday, so he didn't hunt that day. We didn't have anything come in to our calls on Saturday. It was hot! Sunday the 3 of us went out, again it was hot! Didn't have any luck all day. On the last stand, I loaned Brian my .223/12ga combo gun (he had only brought a shotgun), and Randy and I used our AR's, as this last stand was up on a berm and a good spot for rifles. I was setting up the stand and had just placed Brian, and Randy and I were walking to our spots when we heard Brian shoot. Turned out he had some quail flush out at him and so he looked to see what disturbed them and saw a coyote walking away from where the quail came from. He lip squeaked at it, it stopped and looked right at him. He squeaked again and it started towards him, he put the red-dot sight on its head and fired the .223 barrel.....coyote down! We were the 3rd team to check-in and secured 3rd place, 1st place team had 11 coyotes, 2nd place team had 2 coyotes. And we have a new hunter hooked on predator hunting. -
