I would go with a 25-06 or something similar like a 257 mag. or 243 if you are looking for something that is well rounded to fill the gap. A 22-250 is a great round though. As for brands. I like Tikka. Good bang for the buck. I've been drooling over Kimber's rifles for a while now just haven't been able to cough up the coin to get myself one.

Wild Turkeys in the Santa Ritas??

Where is your work at? -
Has anyone else ever seen Wild Turkeys in the Santa Ritas? A friend of mine said he saw a bunch in the mountains a few weeks ago. I didn't believe him until I saw a lone bird yesterday in the flats near the mountains. Anyone else see them out there? I, of course, did not have my camera with me. BTW, I am not talking about my drink of choice either. The actual birds.

Anyone see their refund checks yet?

Wild Turkeys in the Santa Ritas??

Well the original sigting was near the Observatory. I saw them yesterday near the Experimental Range. Weird how we keep finding turkeys and didn't think there were any. We are actually trying to find a couple bears. -
Make some breakfast burritos at home and wrap them in foil. Throw em in the hot coals from the previous nights fire and you have a hot breakfast. Plus its easy to make at home.

I'd also like to add that the 204 shoots similarly to the 22-250 while using considerably less powder.
-
The 204 is my favorite load/ gun. It is fast and flat as a 22-250 but wont shoot your barrel out and is very light on recoil. Excellent on varmints. Coyotes and Javelina are about as big an animal as you'd want to take with it. I saw a kid shoot an antelope with one on a hunting show though. I use a Ruger 77 with a Nikon scope. Lots of options for loads. I've watched jackrabits vaporize and Javelina drop with no meat damage. See 204ruger.com for tons of info.

Just wondering. WHat is the problem with buffelgrass? Why are people trying to remove it? Seems to me like deer, cattle, and other wildlife would benefit from it. Maybe I'm wrong. Info please. -

I have had alot of luck in the past finding javelina by walking up coyote howls in the early morning or late afternoon. In the area I hunt the pigs are constantly being chased around by coyotes. I think there is a lion in the area too this year. I have found 3 deer skulls and 1 dead javelina. All the deer have been bucks. How common are lions in the flat desert areas?
-
Found these little guys today. Mom hauled butt and left them behind. I took some pics and left them. Will she be back for them or are they pretty much coyote bait??
-
Go try some different brands out. Don'tt go by what anyone tells you is the best or what they think you should buy. Your eyes are the ones that have to look through them so make sure you get the ones you like the best.
-
I definetly thought about it. Probably best for them to be with the mama.PLus, I'll be headed out of town for a week Friday and I wouldn't be able to take care of them. I've heard they are pretty good pets as well.

I had busted the herd very early in the morning, found the piglets and left thinking the adults would come back to get them. I GPSed the location and came back to check late in the day and the little ones were still there without any adult supervision.
