i think i will use the netting to carry the rifle and carry my tripod with my sleeping pad on the lower straps. That or I will rig something up to attach the rifle to the pack. The booklet does say that it can carry a rifle. Thanks for the help.

Anyone know when the Buenos Aires refuge is open to archery hunting? I know in the past they have had a separate season than the other units. Thanks. Brett

I've had many bb/pellet guns growing up and took plenty of rabbits/birds/sqirrels with it. Later i grew up and bought a remington 700 .223 to start varmint/big game hunting and still have this gun. It has taken many animals including javelinas, coyotes, bobcats, badgers, skunks, racoons, jackrabbits, and just about anything else that dares come near me in the desert. For deer/elk, i bought a winchester model 94 in 30-30. I later upgraded to a tikka 300 win mag. The 300 is probably my favorite gun. I would recommend pellet/ bb shooting to any youngster getting started as it has prepared mne to move up to larger calibers.

I use the rack style on the front and like it alot. i think to be legal the firearm must also be in a case. not 100% sure though.

Personally, I feel that both the PA hunt and the TX hunts are not my style. I would not be interested in either. I like to get out there in the open and hunt a "wild" animal not farm raised stock. While this style of hunting is not for me, I do not see a problem with it. People have to make a living and people are willing to pay for this type of hunt. People participating in these hunts and providing these hunts are still hunters/ sportsmen/ pro gun and we need to stick together. Just my .02. I was wondering if the animals killed on these types of hunts (TX and PA) are eligable for P&Y or B/C books.

is this a good scope?

on my last 3 apps my hunt choices were #1- DEC WT #2- NOV WT #3- OCT WT, maybe I should bump my #3 up to #2, I still feel that AZ residents are being hosed with the online application process. the only year I drew a WT tag was the year they had paper apps only.
-
- Good points, what is most upsetting to me is that I, as a resident od Arizona, can only draw a tag once every three years. While I enjoy getting out there and hunting harder than the average joe, not having the oppertunity to do that every year is upsetting to me. BTW, I have put in for the early WT hunts the past 3 years, the ones with the highest draw odds and have only gotten 1 tag out 3 attempts. I do have great respect for the GF and their management success. With the drought conditions we've had lately the size of the az herds is pretty good. However, since az residents pay taxes here I believe we should have more oppertunities to hunt our home state. The way i see this being made possible is to reduce the amount of out of state applications.

I just found out that I drew a leftover 30b tag. From what I have read on the Gf website access is limited and the deer herd is small in size. Im actually pretty excited about the challenge. I plan on hiking/horsebacking into a remote area once I find one with access. Hopefully this will get me away from the crowds. Has anyone hunted this unit? Are there a lot of hunters in the mule mnt. area or do they typically hunt the dragoons? Any one know where to get a good topo map of the unit? Thanks in advance. brett

I got the survey. It does seem that the GF wants to issue more permits and lower hunter success rates. What I would like to see them do is eliminate the online application process. The online application makes it too easy for people to apply for hunts and checks their work for them. If they went to strictly paper applications less people would simply send in an appliaction hoping to get drawn. Also, paper applications require a check to be sent in with them. This would also discourage so many people from applying. Obviously, it is my opinion that too many people are applying for hunts.

Anyone know when the GF is going to do the leftover permit draw?

how do you get the results, i dont see anywhere on the gf website to see if i got a tag.

I was recently at Murphy's and had a pleasant experience. The employees were very helpful. I ended up buying a used 2 barrel shotgun for a very fair price. I asked about gun safes and they said they could order one for me but gave me numerous other options in town and told me what to look for in a good safe. My experience was a possitive one and has always been at Murphy's. Plus they were a sponser at the recent RMEF banquet. Personally, i like Murphy's. brett

I own a pair of the steiner big horn 15x56's. I am very happy with them. They gather plenty of light and have done the job for a fair price. However, when compared to the swaro 15x56, there is no comparison. Swaros look like a high def tv compared to my steiners. but me and my pocketbook are happy with the steiners for now. -
Glad to hear that. Can't wait to see the pictures of the muley she tags on the junior hunt in 36a. Brett

shut out in az, too late for mexico?
bmf1321 replied to bmf1321's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Thank you everyone for all of the great advice. A Coues deer hunt in Mexico is definetly in my future. Unfortunetly, I don't think I will be able to afford one this season. All the advice was useful and the hunting outfits featued on this site seem like A+ operations. I would not hesitate to recommend their services to anyone interested and look forward to booking a hunt sometime in the future. Thanks again. Brett -
I went 0-3 in drawing anything in az. while i will definetly be putting a lot more time towards getting a deer with my bow I was just wondering if anyone knew if it was too late to get a rifle hunt in mexico for coues? any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks brett

My asking price is whatever anyone feels is reasonable. I am looking to sell this rifle soon and would rather sell it to someone who will use it than have it sit around and gather dust. I am in Tucson. The gun is 90-95% and includes rings, and iron sights. The wood on the gun is smooth not checkered and there are no scratches dings or dents in it. Engraved in the stock are Model 70 SA and Youth Ranger. I have seen it sell for 450 on gunbroker but just saw a similar gun at Wal-Mart for 364. 250 seems fair. Make an offer if interested. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c6/bmf1321/92e9e0f3.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c6/bmf1321/014c7160.jpg
