Don't overlook steiners. They are exellent quality and a good option for those of us who cant spend mucho dinero on optics. I have the 15x56 big horns and the 9x40 big horns. Love them. Not only are they good and clear but they are very durable. http://cgi.ebay.com/Steiner-Big-Horn-15x56...1QQcmdZViewItem

For the Bear Hunters
bmf1321 replied to BigMoqui's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I glassed one up while scouting for WT today. Big boy eating off a prickly pear. Anyone have a 34b bear tag? -
looks like good country and sounds like it could be productive with water being nearby. Hike the canyon and glass every drainage on the way around. You will find something.

2008 Bowhunting in Arizona Record Book
bmf1321 replied to Arizona Griz's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
what is the record javelina? -
I have a Savage 1100 .270 and I was trying to mount a scope- Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40. My bases and rings are medium Weavers. The scope tube is too short and will not fit in the rings. The taper that goes to the objective lens sits where the tube should. Do they make bases that will accomidate the short tube on this scope or do I have to look for a scope with a longer tube? Thanks.

what type of tires do you guys run?
bmf1321 replied to fatfootdoc's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I ahve always had good luck with BFG AT's. Great wear and performance. FYI, they were on a '02 Super Duty diesel. Just look at the number of them on the trucks out on the road. They aren't that popular by mistake. That being said. I am very impressed with the Big O XT's. The warranty is amazing and the tires look like they could give the BFG's a run for the $$$$. The only reason I went with BFG's again when I was shopping was because BIG O didn't have the XT's in 37's. -
Since archgery season has opened i have been seeing ALOt of does. Unfortunetly not many bucks but that is a whole different topic. The does I have been seeing are solo. Have they had their fawns yet and just hiding them or are they isolating themselves in order to give birth soon? Also, when a doe or deer stomps their feet, what are they doing? signaling?

1. I keep seeing tons of deer buck can't find the bucks. Are they staying away from the does and fawns. Where would they go? Low country? 2. How big would a fawn born early in June be? Would they still have spots? 3. This is kind of related to #2. While out I saw a small doe, probably about as big as a greyhound dog. I watched froma bout 25 yards for awhile then continued hiking. Not far from where I encountered the small doe I found a fawn hidden in the grass. What are the chances that this fawn was this small does? I'm thinking either a 6 month old doe was bread last season and had this fawn or this larger, greyhound sized doe is just another fawn born earlier this year.

This doe was definetly not a full grown doe. Whata re the chances of a youngin getting bread? Do bucks stay away from does and fawns? I thought I would be seeing lots of them since they are in bachelor herds but i have only seen a few small young bucks still with mothers.

Thanks for the info. I ask because I sat and watched a doe at about 20 yards yesterday. She froze and looked in my direction for a while then began to stomp. What you said makes perfect sense. Thanks again.

#%$*&# Camera thief's strike for the 3rd time
bmf1321 replied to Big Browns's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I agree. I would go and try and get that deer. -
I shoot righty and am left eye dominant. I feel like I am able to shoot right handed but think it would be best to shoot lefty if possible. I feel like I have to work extra hard to made the cross dominance work for me. At times it can be frustrating but with alot of time and practice you can make it work for you. Just don't let anyone borrow your bow or shoot anyone elses you will be way off.

win. ballistic silvertips- 115 gr. off the shelf

Personally, I mostly use range finders when scouting. I usually pick an object and guess the yardage then use the rangefinder to judge MY accuracy. By hunting season I am confident in my judging of distance and do not feel the need to use a rangefinder. Ballistic compensators in rangefinders just seem to be too complicated and I see it as being just another thing that can go wrong. I woud rather spend time in the field practicing.

I like that I can go to Wal Mart and buy a tag and go archery deer hunting but I can also see why they want to eliminate the OTC tags. If it has to happen I think they should increase the number of draw tags issued and extend the seasons. I would like to see them do a 4-5 week general season, pretty much combining the early and late seasons. I also think they should allow succesful tag holders to hunt an archery only season in their drawn units prior to and after the general season ends.
