Anyone seeing lions while out scouting?
COOSEFAN replied to Bucks_N_Yotes's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I was at that meeting and there were quite a few real lion hunters present! Just like Amanda said, it was done to hopefully take some of the pressure off of the sport brought on by the anti's. It was funny to see the anti's get up and speak with all their power to push the changes though.......and then to see their reactions when the houndsmen stood up and AGREED with the changes!!! The anti's didn't know what was going on, I think they thought there was something going on behind the scenes! What really bothered me was that there was a News crew there and they spent all their time interviewing the individuals from the anti groups and very little with the houndsmen.....matter of fact, the News later aired the show and made it sound like the anti's won a huge fight against the lion hunters and put seleted clips of the meeting on the News to make it appear as such! We all wore white shirts to show our support for the lion hunters and the room was full of white shirts that day.......but that never made it on the News! The anti's were saying lion hunters kill kittens all the time and kill females with kittens all the time as well. The stats that were brought forth that day proved otherwise and it was obvious the anti's accusations were false......... again, that never made it on the News! JIM> -

Thanks guys for the comments.......even the funny ones Amanda did ask me if I was interested in doing the moderator thing and I thought what the heck, I'll do it........ there's never much to moderate on this site anyways!!! Hey Phil, that Prowler looks AWESOME! I love the cage and seat! I hope you get some pic's this year with some big critters hangin' out of it JIM>
-
A buddy out scouting got these incredible pics of these hogs! I just had to share em' with you guys, I know you'll enjoy em'! He plans on hunting them this weekend so I promised not to divulge any info so no PM's please I will say they are south of the Colorado River and North of the Mexico border sorry. These bucks are big enough to convert even the most diehard Coues hunter! Unbelievable photos!!! Enjoy, JIM>

I actually wish I had the Ranger instead of the Prowler The Prowler is pretty loud and I'm not too fond of the transmission setup it's got, not very fluid! I have the full cab kit on it which obviously makes it alot louder, and it feels top-heavy big time! The only reason I didn't buy the Ranger is because of the flat bench seat and it feels like you drivin' a bus Other than that the Ranger is the way to go ..... IMO Yep the ranger has a bench seat which holds THREE people and I will agree with you on the models that have the intake up front between the seats. They are so loud you have to yell to the person next to you. And as far as the full cab I have one as well and when it's on it is pretty dadgum loud. I can't even imagine having one on the rhino Oh by the way you can put 1,000 lbs in the ranger and only what 3 hundo in the rhino? I am stirring the pot now. You aint' tellin' me that you can fit 3 of you on that one seat and NOT have anyone fall out! Especially if you got Gino in the middle! I don't see how! AND its 4 HUNDO buddy! The Prowler holds 6 HUNDO and put those together you get 1 THOUSUNDO You would have to wear ear plugs if you put a cab kit on the Rhino....yer right about that! Oh yeah, Thanks Scottyboy......I will make sure to let ya know when I go to Montana!

Hey Scotty, I will be in Turner which is in Hill or Blaine county I think? Just south of the border and pretty central in the state....I also think its 250 miles north of Billings. Don't know much else yet, except I need to decide on the 7th or 14th for my arrival there. -
JasCald.......it's the GL2 Canon. I love it becase of it's size ( as compared to the XL1 ) and it takes awesome footage .... as long as you keep the lense clean, which I have a hard time remembering! It does take stills but like most video cams it's only 1.7 megapixels or something. It does not take photos off of already filmed footage. I have the smaller ZR90 Canon that you can play the tape and snap pic's off the video...wish the GL2 did it as well. Quite a few of the videos and shows you see are filmed with the GL2. Crotalus....yeah, thats the Prowler.....it would be a mean snake huntin' machine! We also have the Rhino and I like it better than the Prowler, but they both are serious "truck-savers" and ALOT cheaper on gas! We have them street legal so the trucks stay in camp 90% of the time. Thanks, JIM>

Whoo hooo.......Dang Scotty, I can't see how life could treat ya any better lately! That would be a great place to raise the kids! I will be in Montana for "lopers the first part of Oct. and was told when I tag out, I get to hunt those Grouse and Hungarian Partridge!!! I'm more excited about hunting these new birds than the Antelope! You know the first thing you need to do when you get there is make sure you have an internet connection!!! Best of luck and congrats! Quote; "I would hope that yor buddy does not hunt where these bucks are, or it will tick off half a million chinese people that are busy feeding them apples and taking pics. Your buddy is out of his mind if he hunts where these bucks are. Time to come clean on where they are at................ " I honestly have nothing to prove here......there is a ton of people on this site and even more off this site who know who I am and what I'm about. Instead of getting off topic with this one I'll just say what I said before and this a fact....." these bucks and these photos are from a unit that can be legaly hunted starting this Friday " .............. and my buddies intend to do so Back to topic........ I still stick to my original guess .... "I would guess 197" on the typical and 218" on the non-typ.......with a 5" plus or minus cushion for error on both" The key is the 5" cushion

"I would guess 197" on the typical and 218" on the non-typ.......with a 5" plus or minus cushion for error on both " I'm stickin' with my guess but I could see being high on the Typ. by a few inches......maybe 194" I think there are some inches in height and width that I think some guys aren't calculatin' on both bucks The velvet can fool ya for sure though! Isn't this fun! It would be a huge learning leason for all of us if we can actually get this buck on the ground and score em' out! Otherwise it's all speculation. Got the fingers crossed

Great article! JIM> -
Hey 300.. great pic's, looks like he's put on a few inches overall since your pic's. What a stud buck!
-
Thanks for all the reply's guys....especially for thanking my buddy who allowed all of us to enjoy these monsters!!! It's always hard to judge a critter by just a couple pic's, but that non-typ is decieving and is bigger than some of us think! I think if that buck was standing across a canyon at about 100 yrds, the guesses on score would be higher. We aren't used to seein' bucks of that caliber up close like that, and I guarantee if there were a 180" frame buck standing next to him, it would put things into perspective! We obviously won't know until he gets shafted this weekend! I would guess 197" on the typical and 218" on the non-typ.......with a 5" plus or minus cushion for error on both And 300wsm....... for the record... these bucks and these photos are from a unit that can be legaly hunted starting this Friday Whether they are still there or not by then is still yet to be seen...... Nothing surprises me when dealing with Mule deer bucks of this caliber. Thanks again guys

That was my buddy's complaint as well! I haven't been able to get ahold of him yet, I'll try again.

these aren't trail cam photos!!! Could be in your unit though He also doesn't use just a little point-n-shoot camera either..... and it shows!! Yeah those are some fantastic photos there. I have an idea of which unit but will not say what I think it is It's not where you are thinking ...... It even surprised me! How do you know what I am thinking when I don't even know? I DO know you are thinking LOW on your scores! Just trying to stay conservative Nothing wrong with that.......but look at the racks in comparison to the body sizes and ears. If you had a true 175" buck standing next to either one of these it would put things into perspective better!

Instead of this becoming a guessing game on where these are from.......What do you think they will score?

Welcome to the family Mrs. HC! Glad to see you don't look ANYTHING like that ugly critter! I have no clue what it is and it looks real which makes it even more scary! Best of luck to ya this next weekend! JIM>
