COOSEFAN replied to Big Browns's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
That sucks BB, and it's good to see your gonna get back out there! Although, you should not let the thief win.......I would hunt even harder for that buck if it happened to me.....just to at least make sure he doesn't get your deer as well! Best of luck to ya! JIM> -

Anyone seeing lions while out scouting?
COOSEFAN replied to Bucks_N_Yotes's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
None of this was done to make the Anti's happy. The closed season was agreed on because very few if any lion hunters are out in the middle of summer......maybe they could have made it a week earlier for the re-opening of the season, but it really doesn't matter. The issue about the female with kitten harvest was dealt with in agreement that lion hunters don't target those animals anyways....why would the lion hunters sit there and argue that they WANTED to be allowed to kill females with kittens? I am not a professional lion hunter, I was at the metting where the changes took place and there were alot of facts presented in favor of the lion hunters and nothing was done just to make the Anti groups happy.......it just so happened that both sides of the issue actually agreed on a change. There are a few assumptions on this thread that are not based on the facts of why things happened......maybe it was the wording in my first post, but research the facts or ask one of the professional houndsmen that was there and has a more in depth knowledge about what transpired and why........then base opinions from that! And that is my opinion on the subject JIM> BTW........I agree there are definitely no shortage of Lions in AZ. -
Hey guys and gals, I just wanted to put this on here as an FYI post. I have enjoyed everyones responses to the thread about my becoming a moderator and I appreciate it! I will be gone till next Thursday so I won't be responding to any emails or PM's till then. I will be trying to tie up some huge velvet Coues bucks to trees down in Mexico .........can't wait to get outta here! Best of luck to all the archery hunters this side of the border Thanks JIM>

Hey Hall Boy..... I got my eye out for you, too ..... But you can't catch me, Boy!!!! Dirk D We'll see about that JIM> -
Thank You Gino.......that's my stand point exactly and my own personal beliefs as well. VERY well written dude! It is amazing how different we feel about certain words.......I didn't have any clue there would be such a difference in oppinion on the word "harvest"! Also to add to what I have said earlier........I try as much as I can to treat everyone the same as how I want to be treated....... for instance my co-workers......It's out of respect that I don't go around talkin' about Killin' this or Killin' that, I know they don't want to hear it and it would only start a fight if I did! I'm not out there trying to convert anti-hunters either........they can beleive what they want, and I will respect them as long as they keep their mouth shut and be as respectful as I am. If not..........I can dish it out as good as the rest of em' when it comes down to it....but why instigate it! Thanks again for everyones input on this, It's very interesting JIM>

Thank you for your thoughts on the subject Mr. Quimby. JIM>

I totally agree with this. But it doesn't change the fact I always watch what I say in certain situations so as not to hurt anyones feelings. Maybe I'm wrong for doing that but it's just who I am. Doesn't mean I am any less proud of who I am or what I do! I work with people who are anti's and I always, out of respect for them and their right to their opinion, watch what I say around them. They respect me and do the same in return. I honestly don't see what's wrong with that.

"Sorry, folks, but my training as a journalist makes me cringe whenever I hear a hunter say he "harvested" an animal. (The same thing happens when I hear someone say "passed away" instead of "died.") Such words are highly unprofessional in my trade" I'm intrigued by this.....maybe it's cause I'm a few sandwiches short of a picnic.........but is it just because these words or phrases are not the correct word to use when describing death? So professionally it would be wrong to use the wrong word? Or is it just because it doesn't sound right? Thanks for your input! JIM>
-
I definitely won't argue with you Bill on what is correct or not, but as far as me personally, I feel "harvested" sounds better than "Killed", but that's just me. I also agree we shouldn't have to change our wording when describing what we do, but I'm afraid we need to in todays world. The word "Kill" is a trigger word that I feel invokes a thought of a violent act or to cause death. The word "harvest" sounds better because it just describes taking something or gathering something. Both these words get the same point across. This is just my thoughts whether they are right or wrong, that's how I feel. I know some guys don't care what other people think and they are proud of our sport and talk freely no matter where they are. These same people will think I'm a wussy for being careful of what I say, but I think it's better to be careful. It doesn't take too much to turn a non-hunter into an anti-hunter! Just my $.02 JIM>

That's a fantastic critter there Lance......I hope you get em'!!! Best of luck! JIM>

Ernest, I think that's a good idea.......Critters Other Than Coues.... it sounds better than Other Big Game......I'd be all over it with Critter pic's! I only wish that were me in that pic........everyone's right.....I've got a "spare tire" now! Gamehauler.......there's nothing wrong with that pic.....we need to save that one forever in the " Coosefan slams Gino" album but at least Gino wasn't the one wearing the red wig I think we all can agree some of those other pics I/we posted were over the line though Thanks guys, JIM> -
Dog Fighting Like Hunting?!?! What?!?!
COOSEFAN replied to redline410's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Quote: "White said he does not support dogfighting and that he considers it as bad as hunting." This is just flat out wrong! These are two entirely different things! -
That is great advice Mike I agree 100% on the word KILL. I don't like that word either and always substitute "took, take, harvest, tagged, bagged, whacked, shafted, pole axed, pin wheeled, smoked, slammed, hammered, floored, stick, stuck, punched, drilled, dropped, and my all time favorite...layin' the smack down! I'm joking on most of these, but they are all better than the word KILL I think. I usually do use the words "took, take and harvested" the most and they sound the most professional and ethical. Great advice Mike! JIM>

Been up north last week and it's HOT up there! Lot's O' water and green grass.......and BIG bulls! I glass from high places and long distances when scouting so I didn't get any critter pic's or video, but saw what I wanted to see Just wanted to share some of the pic's I did get though....... This is how I get around.....the Rhino is headed to the shop to get work done, so the Prowler got some abuse this week. I glassed up this skull from over 1 mile out, thought it was pretty cool.......it stunk pretty bad, so it's still there! Found a few arrowheads as usuall.....bunch of em' out there! I did sit a tank one evening and didn't even see a rabbit.......but the sunset was purdy. And believe it or not......I'm glassing for Elk in this pic'! They are there........and I WON'T be there to hunt em' I'm a "flat-lander" when it comes to Elk hunting.......you guys can have them canyons! There's big bulls in the flat stuff just the same! Thanks, JIM>
