Lucky to get Two Animals In Two Days
COOSEFAN replied to KidBowHunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Super buck! Congratulations to you Troy! JIM> -
DANGIT I too went runnin' through the house tryin' to find a pen and paper........I think I can remember most of it though Great buck and awesome effort! You'll always remember the hard-earned bucks long after you forgot about the easy ones!!! Congrats, JIM>

Man......those are hard photos to work with with all the grass blades, but here's what I came up with. I just cut out the antlers and darkened the background behind so it isn't all cluttered.......that way the antlers are still visible when you make it into a small avatar pic. I had to do the same thing to my avatar so you could still see the critter when the pic was shrunk down. I would guess 90 4/8"

Awesome pic and love the mass on that shed!!!!! That shed's gotta be 53 4/8"

What a beautiful buck! I love the shape and the long beams! I would have to say he's..........89 3/8" although I may be way off 'cause he looks bigger than that, but again, it doesn't matter......gorgeous buck and congrats!!!! JIM> -
Gorgeous buck right there! Great job! I think you should use the "steak n' shrimp" pic as your avatar.........MMMMmmmmm If you like that photo of just your buck that Christian posted, I could photoshop it a little to make the background out of focus and it might make the buck look more focused and accent his antlers better........I could also add a droptine or two JIM>
-
Fantastic buck! Congrats to her! JIM>

Thanks for the reply's everyone.......the boys have been reading all of your responses and are excited to see you all enjoy the story and pic's! I do like rock piles or anything that will elevate the buck. It makes it alot easier to get the camera angle from down low and it also displays the deer better, kinda like on a pedestal or somethin'. I've never seen a photo that I liked where the camera is above looking down on the subject, it's gotta be level or from below. Kevin k......I'll have to agree with you this one time but I did have that scope with me up there............it was in the trailer back at camp!

OMG! That is a dream buck right there! What a stud! Huge congrats to her!!! JIM>

New B&C World Record Coues
COOSEFAN replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
We all know there is no right or wrong answer to this hypothetical thread, but it is fun to think about and see how different everyones thoughts are! If I killed the "New B&C World Record Coues"................. I honestly would feel guilty and selfish if I didn't have him scored and if I didn't share him with all the other "Coues Deer Freaks" like myself in this world! I definitely would post him here first to share with my CWT.com family, and I would then write up an amazing article detailing the country the buck called home, the thrill and challenges of the hunt, and best of all, the photos of the magnificent Coues for all to admire. I feel that sharing your trophy in the form of photos and stories is just another form of showing respect to the animal and gives him credit for being smart enough to grow old enough to wear record class antlers! And "sometimes" the hunter in the "hero pic" actually out smarted the trophy and in that case they should be admired for their skill and knowledge as well. As far as the publicity, security and personal attacks on legality........I really like what Chef said, "I would let my current reputation and ethics go against any legality questions on how the buck was taken" Now, when it comes to the selling part..........it would have to be a big number for me to part with a trophy of any size! I place a very high value on all my trophies.....even the small ones. But let's get real.......give me a replica and more money than I make in at least one year......I'll do it! I can go on several hunts and kill several more trophies plus still have enough money to make my life easier! Why not.......I killed the buck, I have the memories of the hunt, I know what the buck looked like alive in my scope.......nobody else can take that away or claim it as theirs. They can own the antlers, but the trophy was hunted and taken by me. For all the guys saying they would never sell their trophy, I have a hard time believing em'. Either they have enough money already or they just know they won't ever be in that position, so it's admirable to just say they wouldn't sell! And that's my $.02 JIM> -
Great job and beautiful buck!!! Congrats! JIM>

What would you do? (hunting etiquette)
COOSEFAN replied to PSEHunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Anymore, I keep the mindset that I'm going to run into hunters, there's going to be hunters in my spot, and there are a bunch of "numbskulls" out there in the hills these days! You just have to accept it if you hunt the "high volume" hunts like the early Coues hunts. The trick is to use these hunters to your advantage! Let them blast out areas and push all the bigger, smarter deer into their hiding spots which in turn just narrowed down where you need to look! All them other yahoos runnin' the roads and the "easy" hills have just narrowed down your search for your buck! Just expect it, don't be surprised at anything you see, and most of all..... be friendly to everyone.......that minimizes problems and is generally just a good way to be JIM> -
How does Shortpants know what I taste like?

Here's the Prowler w/out the cab kit.............I honestly don't like the cab kit 'cause it makes it feel very top heavy and creates alot of dust in the cab. That is true for all the UTV's though when you add a enclosure of some kind. and here's the Rhino.......
-
I have the Rhino and the Arctic Cat Prowler and I just had my first experience with the Ranger over the last 4 days. I have always preached that the Ranger was quieter than the Rhino and that was based only on somebody driving by me on a Ranger and it sounded quieter. That is not entirely true. We had 5 Rangers and 1 Rhino in our camp this past weekend.......and the Ranger is not that much quieter than the Rhino......at least not enough to make a difference. I don't like the "boxy" feel of the Ranger. You sit up high, you can't stretch your legs and you're not stable in the seat at all. I would have been scared if there wasn't a bar on the side of the bench seat to keep you in! We did have two adults, two kids, 4 packs with all the gear, 2 rifles and 2 boned-out Muley bucks in back of our Ranger and it "handled" the weight perfectly....but my Rhino would have done the same thing, just not as stable, but going slow it would have been fine. The Prowler would have done better than the Rhino in this case, but it gets the job done just the same regardless. I can put a bull elk in the back of my Rhino and climb out of a canyon with no problems. You have to quarter him up though, but I almost always quarter my elk up as soon as the pic's are done because of the heat issue on most of our hunts, so I expect to never have to try and put a full elk or half an elk in my Rhino. I have also cut a bull elk in half and put half on front and half on back of a 2004 Sportsman 500 and drove it off a mountain with no problems.....kinda scary, but no problems. I believe that it doesn't matter which one you choose.......just get one! They all are great and get the job done. You will drive yourself nuts weighing all the pro's and con's and still not have a perfect choice. If you plan on putting something bigger than a bull elk in the back, then definitely get the Ranger, if you are concerned more about the ride and comfort, then get the Rhino or Prowler. I just went and bought the ones that felt good to sit in and drive and I have no regrets. They are all good. JIM>

Some of my hardest Coues hunts have been in that unit! I've done the "hikin' way up there" thing and it's never been better for me.......usually had better luck down low. That is a fantastic 34B Coues buck right there!!! Great job on the effort and the trophy! JIM>
