Anyone Heard From The Super 80
COOSEFAN replied to GameHauler's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
You know Casey.....I have to say it is quite funny to hear about your "shooting" episode on this buck.......only becuase of the comments you've made in the past about your shooting skills! Like has been said before....this is hunting, not killing. Things don't always go as planned or as expected, learn from it.......it made you a better hunter! The only problem I have is that I have yet to see a photo with you smiling in it. You should be proud and happy with that buck.....it's a great buck, you won the game and were successful in tagging a smart ol' Coues buck! Regardless of whether or not he's in 1 peice or 5 peices........you killed em' and he's your buck..........I just would rather see a big ol' smile on your face while holding your buck. Congrats to you and your dad on great bucks! JIM> -
Hey guys, I'm curious, how many Coues bucks have you seen harvested on the general rifle hunts that were in full velvet? I'm not talking about little spikes and forkies, and I'm not talkin' just fuzz hangin'......I'm talkin' mature 80" plus type bucks in full velvet! I've seen many spikers and ittie bittie forkies still sporting the fuzz late in Oct. but I have never seen a mature 80" type buck in full velvet on the last week in Oct..........until this year! Anyone else seen this? Is it more common than what I'm thinkin'? Thanks, JIM>

Hey guys, i'm almost ready to head out the door to go chase Coues bucks, but wanted to share these pic's with ya. Popp's dog had pups again and there happened to be one yellow out of the bunch! I knew the first time I saw him that he was coming home with me! He's chubby, mellow, and yellow We think his name will be either Brutus or Moose......both names really fit him with his size and attitude! This is the little brother to my black lab "Drake" and you can see Drake in one of the pic's checkin' out his little brother. We are excited to have him and can't wait to get him home! Thanks and best of luck to all the Coues hunters next week! JIM>

Here's my girl "Harley" as she try's to keep her cool........Big Mean Kitty got hurt shortly after the pic was taken........he waited 4 seconds!

Merry Christmas!

Hope everyone has a very merry Christmas! JIM> Sorry......."Coues-dolph" won't be leading the team this year -
Awesome pic's David! I really like that one with Damion and the sunset! Great job, that's a bunch of bone! JIM>

I know for a fact that is one of the deadliest set-ups for Coues right there Congrats on the purchase, you won't regret it! JIM>

Fantastic bucks Oldtimer! Thanks for the pic's! JIM>

That's great info! I tried calling last year for the first time ever. I had a client with me in Mexico, overlooking a thick bedding area with very little glassing windows. It was around lunchtime and as we sat eating our burritos I decided I should give it a try. I had just purchased a small "rattle bag" and the small "can" and I really didn't know how to use either the right way. I hit the bag a few times and turned the can over twice and less than a minute later, with a mouthfull of burrito, there was a 97" Coues buck staring at me at the edge of the thick stuff! That buck is now hangin' on my clients wall and is a tribute to my first attempt at calling Coues! I tried it several times after that and have never had the same results......and one time there was a 105" buck laying within earshot and he never came in......but he still died so it at least didn't scare him either JIM>

Whoooohoooo!!! I'm leaving in two days to go "hog-tie" some bucks so we can lay the smack-down on em' next Friday! The trick is to tie em' up by the back leg to a stout tree.....that way they can still feed around and if they get spooked and run they won't break their neck when they hit the end of the rope! The only tricky part is gettin' em' tied up in the first place!

Where did the term "Toad" come from?
COOSEFAN replied to justinspe25's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
It's crazy how one person can use a word to describe a trophy critter and once his buddy, and his buddy's buddy start using it, in no time guys several states away will be using the same word. TOAD started that way, because it wasn't long ago when I remember hearing it the first time and now it's probably got the "new" definition by it in the dictionary! Here's a few more.......monster, whopper, freak, freaknasty, shooter, stud, and one that I keep using lately.....stallion ( i think that came from Grong, he's always got some new words! ). None of them actually mean what you are describing, but it get's the point across regardless. Oh and by the way Grong......."Dinglecheese" still cracks me up! LOL! -
Hey thanks, I just a personal thing but unless they are 100" I don't mount them. Pretend all you want but they are from a couple diffrent units... good luck in december!! Jack, if those euros ain't 100"ers, they gotta be darn close.......and I guarantee they are WAY big enough for me to get em' stuffed! I admire that though........my wallet would be ALOT fatter if I felt the same way!
-
Aw.....C'mon, that's mean.......makin' fun of the fat guy are ya! All I can say is thanks to momma's "monster cookies" and "Thanksgivin' leftovers", I now have several extra layers of fat to keep me warm on these winter hunts!

This whole thread just makes me feel good about buying the Double Bull blind I'm not good at those twisty-collapsy thingy's and I have a hard enough time with the DoubleBull, but not even close to what you guys are describing! best of luck, JIM>

Outstanding buck you got there Oldtimer! Welcome to the site! Lets see some more pic's if ya got em'! It's part of the initiation process.... JIM>

Thanks a bunch Johnnie..........I still have several other hunts that I have been putting off for several months now, but that video of your dad and his sheep needed to get done ASAP! It's awesome and will be really cool for him to show all his buddies how it all went down! It was my pleasure and thanks again to the Noble family for lettin' me tag along.....you guys are awesome JIM>
-
Hey Bownut, I did finally get to see that and so did most of my family after Popps emailed it along!!! That was some funny stuff right there! Great job and thanks for the laughs!!! JIM>

I've had several people who know me, tell me I shouldn't go Sheep hunting! I have always wanted to, it has always been a huge desire of mine but one that I've kept on the backburner because of it's rarity! Nobody in my circle of friends or family has ever drawn a Sheep tag......EVER! That is until this year My friends told me not to go becasue they know of my addictive nature, they know how I crave gettin' up on a glassin' point with spectacular veiws in any direction, they know I love sittin' behind my tripod mounted Swaro's for hours on end.......... I should have listened to em'. I had a hard enough time feeding my Coues habit and now I have to find a way to feed my Sheep habit.......dangit, why didn't you guys warn me Somebody's father whacked a hog of a Sheep.......Somebody else got it all on video.......Somebody will post a story and pic's......as soon as Somebody else gets the pic's to Sombody to post Also, Somebody else can't get Sheep off his brain and he needs to switch back to Coues mode real quick.....dangit! Somebody else>

Two CWT'ers in a mag!
COOSEFAN replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Wish I could see the magazine I've given them my address a bunch of times, spend thousands of dollars with them and I can't get a darn subscription. I'll just have to steal Popp's magazine when it arrives like usual -
Great bulls! Huge congrats to all involved and especially to Brent........outstanding bull with all the memories to go along with it! JIM>

Hey Bill, I've heard, read and recently witnessed what you are saying. But to clarify my comparison, the manner in which I hunt both Coues and Sheep are identical. My love for Coues is in big part due to how I hunt them. I hike and glass, spot and stalk. Glassing large country for an elusive critter is the challenge and what I admire, being elusive because they're smart or because there just isn't many of them, doesn't matter. With just a few thousand dollars in Mexico and a guaranteed Oct. tag in AZ, I can kill 2 or 3 average to good size Coues bucks on any given year........for Sheep, I just hope I get a chance to hunt 1 Desert Sheep in my lifetime....that's the big difference
-
Alrighty.......here's where the story and pic's are: http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...?showtopic=7641 Hey Doug, I am already thinkin' about how to get a hunt lined up.....just gotta get the ol' lady graduated and workin' first! ( just a couple more months ) Bret, I've seen pic's of that ram before on their website and it's a giant! I could stare at them critters a long time and never get bored.....just like Couesies I'll be down south in a few days looking for Coues again, but I know I won't be able to stop lookin' for "yellow donuts"! Thanks JIM>

I can't express how awesome it was to finally get to hunt Sheep! The best part was that it was with good friends and we had a blast! I've had the opportunity to hunt with the Noble family on sevaral occasions and they are great people! Papa John did awesome and made some hard shots count like he usually does! With some valuable info, John Jr. followed up and pinned down some incredible rams that were quite a bit larger than the expectations for this hunt, and he knew where these rams may end up after the storm and he was right! The hunt turned out perfect and those boys did an awesome job on whackin' a stud of a ram! Congrats to Papa John and thanks again for lettin' me tag along, i'll never forget it! JIM>
