Arizona Elk Society Big Lake Work Project

C'mon CWT.commers........Let's see how many of us we can get up there! I'll try my best to make it and will know for sure in a couple weeks. Sounds like it'll be a fun and rewarding time and all for a great cause! Thanks to the AES for everything they do!

    Hunting Predators

Hunt em' year round....it'll never even make a dent in the population! I've never sold a hide off any predator I've killed and I used to kill a bunch of em, so I never cared when I shot coyotes. The summer time can be the best time.......'cause there's nothing else to throw lead at and just head north where it's cooler! And as far as the pups go......that's what makes calling in the early Fall so fun......anyone can call in pups and usually on a dead run! Pile em' up any chance you get and best of luck. JIM>
  3. Dangit! I was planning on going but just remembered the ol' lady graduates college on May 10th......I will still donate an item to the banquet though and will mail it to you Amanda with your contest prize stuff. Thanks and hope everyone has a great time! JIM>
  4. Contact or send a PM to W.T.K., he is a member on this site and he'll get you taken care of! His name is Carl.

    Poppies!!!

Amanda, that first pic in your last post is AMAZING!!! That would be the one and only time that it would NOT be safe to wear Blaze Orange! JIM>

    UPS loses cabelas TAGS

It's not fair to allow Cabela's apps to be accepted! That's a fact.......and it's too bad for the applicant's but that's a risk you take when allowing someone else to apply for you. What about all the other folks who showed up at 7:05 pm on deadline day and got rejected???? What's scary is that the commision REALLY wants to accept these apps because of all the money they represent and I don't think it will be hard for Cabela's lawyers to persuade them.....and it probably doesn't matter if the public speaks up or not.....as usual. Everyone should be treated the same regardless who you are or how much business you provide and rules are rules.......right?

    auction elk tag

Nobody is guilty of anything yet......I heard it's still being hashed out. Also, I highly doubt you'll see that rack show up at any auctions.......and I'm sure it's still at the taxi that recieved it initially.

    Monster Archery Buck *UPDATED*

It was amazing to hold that beast in my own hands finally....thanks for bringing it down and sharin' it with us! Sorry you had to go on that "roller-coaster" with SCI.......it did nothing but strengthen the feelings I have for them Congrats again on an amazing critter Jeremy!!! JIM>
  11. Well 600 does sound alot more like it! I even went back and asked again from my sources if the numbers they told me were true and they stood by what they said...........It just goes to show that even within the Dept. they don't know the truth about it. Who knows for sure......but regardless, it still sounds like it was a great year to be a NON-resident applying for an early rifle bull tag
  12. WHOOOOOHOOOOO!!! I FINALLY BEAT THAT DANG WEAPONS GAME I think it was like my 7th or 10th try, but finally got 'er done! 192,300 final score with 1 missle left! Now I can stop.

    FS: Swarovski DCA

I almost bought this same thing, but it is very specific on which cameras can be used. That's great you posted that link.......any buyers should definitely locate your camera on that list first! Good luck. JIM>

    BACKPACKING BOOTS OPINIONS NEEDED

Thanks, I will check those out!
  17. Dangit........I hate that futureweapons game I can't beat it, but best i've done is 14th round and 138,400...........I'm gonna go back to blastin' kitties!
  18. I thought the numbers seemed really high.........but I've heard it from several different sources that there were close to or around 40,000 applications in those boxes. I've heard some of this from outfitters who recieve clients out of the T.A.G.S. program and they've heard the same info as well. I wonder what Cabelas will do for those rejected applicants? I would hate to be in their shoes right now! Sucks for the hunters who lost out on what is shaping up to be an incredible year to have an Elk tag!
  19. You are right about the non-res thing. It will increase the non-res odds more than anything. The AZGFD person I talked to stated that rules are rules, and last he checked the deadline was 7:00.......NOT 9:00! They are not accepting these apps, even though they know they are losing out on a ton of money.
  20. That game is COOL! My cat was sittin' here with me wonderin' what was making the noise..........only if she knew! I got 1,518 and then shortly after got 1,247. I've kept the angle at 44.0% and tried to hit the power at it's fullest. It doesn't matter though, it's all in where you land JIM>

    BACKPACKING BOOTS OPINIONS NEEDED

I wear slip on camp shoes that I bought at Cabela's for chasin' bulls in the rut.......they are lighter than any hiking boot and you can take em' off fast if need to. It's all the other hunting that tears my boots up.....I have to have a good ankle support and I usually end up with a fairly heavy boot because of that.
  22. THIS IS STRICTLY A RUMOR.........but was from an "inside" source....... Maybe somebody else has heard this same thing? Cabela's T.A.G.S. application service dropped the ball on "deadline day". A representative tried to deliver a "large" box of applications to the G+F Dept office on the deadline day. The person stood pounding on the front door until a janitor finally opened up and the person stepped in, set the box down, and left................this was around 9:30 PM!!!! Last I heard G+F was NOT going to open the box and stick to their 7:00PM deadline time and consider it too late. A "large" box could hold ALOT of applications............and ALOT of those applicants I'm sure were put in for trophy hunts! I don't know if this was all of Cabela's applicants or if this was just some last minute apps? If this is true, then that could possibly increase some odds for a few hunts I bet. Also, if this is true, G+F had better not open that box! I'm sure there will be some lawyers recieving phone calls over this one! Anybody hear the same thing? OK.........THIS IS NOT A RUMOR!!!!! I verified it last night and this is true! ACTUALLY, there were SEVERAL BIG BOXES that arrived at 9:00......2 hours late!!! An estimated 40,000 applications were NOT recieved! It was estimated that this has caused a 27% reduction in applicants! Game and Fish will NOT accept these applications. I bet Cabela's is in a little bit O' trouble over this...........I wonder if they've notified anyone about this yet? I feel bad for those negatively affected by this.........BUT I am excited as heck about how it affects my chances of drawing an elk tag!!!! WHOOOO HOOOO!!!! JIM>
  23. I made it there last night and plan on being there again on Sun. as well. Saw ALOT of familiar faces, and met some new ones. Foundryman, i agree with effenjeff, that is beautiful, awesome job! I also spent a bunch of money at Jim Whites booth as usual and it was good to see him again. Look forward to seeing those that I missed, and meeting new folks tomorrow! JIM>

    BACKPACKING BOOTS OPINIONS NEEDED

Thanks for that awesome information Fatfootdoc!!! I have always used Danners.........thinking that spending the extra $$ meant I was getting a better boot I have bought 2 pairs of Danners and have spent almost $350.00 on boots.......since last SEPTEMBER! That just ain't right, but that's pretty much what I do every year, I just can't get a pair to last me an entire season. I am hard on boots (obviously) but the stitches on the side, and the sole under the toe part are what always goes first for me. I am giving up on Danners and will buy the MEINDL's next. I have heard many people talk about those and I'll try em'........where's the best place to find a good selection of MEINDL's? Thanks, and good topic! JIM>
