Saw a sticker yesterday.
COOSEFAN replied to justinspe25's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
It means that I'm a gay bear hunter........I didn't think it would be that hard to figure out Maybe I should spell it out on there so you "slow" folks can understand it! Good one Davey -
Welp.......I take that back.........I missed a small Coues buck in 34B......twice Once at 15 yards and another at about 25 yards......with a 22-250! I didn't know where to hold the crosshairs and for some reason I aimed below his chest both times! I don't know how I forgot about that one...kinda embarrasing. That was I think 8 years ago and the buck walked up behind me while I was glassing on the last day of a 4 day hunt.....I went home empty handed on that one!
-
Other than coyotes......with a rifle, that is the first animal that I've shot at and NOT killed in 18 years! I've never thought about it until now, but I missed a HUGE Coues buck in Unit 21 with my dad when I was 14 yrs old.......If i'm remembering right, that was the last animal I've missed and not ended up killing...until now Alot of that is because I normally wouldn't have taken the shots that I took on this hog if it were a game animal. Now, with a muzzeloader or bow.....that's another story altogether
-
Sorry Jim. But it took you 30 minutes to type THAT? Tell Gina to stop callin' me and maybe I'll get stuff done around here in a timely fashion
-
Nada fo me........time to go take my frustration out on some hogs Congrats to all the successful tag holders who have waited a long time for their tags!

50 people online in the middle of the day?

It doesn't matter.......I know for certain that just 'cause they might work for the Dept. doesn't mean they know the actual facts There's just as many rumors flyin' around within the Dept. as there are outside it! Jorge G. > -
"Mark my words....."I will have blood on my hands by the end of next weekend...and a whole lotta bacon in the freezer too!" Well......I ALMOST held true to my word I just got home, but I was able to get out today and try to fulfill my promise, but I missed...........5 times My buddy Bryan and I arrived, hiked in to a different glassing spot than last time. It was warm and windy and we glassed for several hours finding only a few deer and moo cows. With about 45 minutes of shooting light left, i finally spotted a HUGE Hog walking down hill. The only way I knew it was a monster was becuase he walked right past 3 of the moo cows and the top of his back was higher than the bottom of the cows belly! He was very dark colored and just looked like one bad dude! I don't know why really, but I got more excited than I do on Coues bucks! Bryan got em' in his bino's and was equally excited at how big this dude was! I grabbed my rifle and started my stalk..........which pretty much was a "run right at em'" type of stalk! The wind was wrong the whole time, but I didn't have enough time to take it wide and get the wind right. He was down in the bottom of a drainage feeding when I relocated him at around 300 yards........and he threw his head up and ran straight away........AT 300 YARDS.....NO JOKE!!! To say these things are wild is an understatement! I dropped, ranged the hill he was heading to and got ready. He appeared and slowed down in the last window I had and I shot way under him. He reappeared higher up, stopped again and I have no clue where that shot went........the next 3 shots were nothing but "hail mary's", but as long as I had that Hog in the scope.......he was getting shot at! If this was any other critter I never would have taken any of the shots I took, but this was an exception, and I loved every second of it! I still can't believe how spooky these things are......definitely makes it ALOT more fun having to hunt them like deer!

Ya know.......I was sittin' here reading about this wonderful hunt for trophy Jackrabbits and I was thinkin'......I might want to try that. SO......I check out the company motto and thought it sounded quite familiar........THEN I checked out the phone numbers! Very funny CouesCowboy I wonder if my dad recieved any phone calls pertaining to "trophy rabbit hunting"! Hey Casey, you look like you've lost some weight, I guess you weren't BS'in about working out and runnin'! Good for you
-
No, not the one I was bidding for.....but on any other year we would probably have gotten it....... we gave up at $140,000. It was appearant that the winning bidder was going to win it.....not much hesitation! Very exciting and definitely a great thing for Arizona!
-
Hey Terry, I was thinking the same thing about the "Russian" look that they have....makes em' look more like a wild pig rather than a farm pig. Those critters do some serious damage to the area they live in, it looks like a bunch of roto-tillers and tractors went through there!
-
Fair enough. But Jim, on an entirely different subject, how much would Mullins Outfitters charge for a guided hog hunt? I think that would be a very short venture for us.......wouldn't take long before the hogs were all gone. We thought about it and it just wouldn't be worth the time and hassle. I just want one of those ugly things and then I'll go back to chasin' Elk

Bah HaHa... and I thought I was a small town kid!?!! Those banquets can be more fun than watching a bunch of one armed guys compete in a row boat race! We have a banquet up here that we go to every year and they give away like 60+ guns.... everyone in town is there... it is like going to a high school reunion! I bet watching the Elk and Speed Goat tags go so high was a show! I should have the video of those auctions up on YouTube fairly soon. I don't know how good the video is of the Elk auction 'cause I was biddin' and not tapin'....my bro was jumping around and passed the camera duty off to somebody standing close by Should be good though......but not nearly as good as being there in person!

How much longer.... THE POLL!
COOSEFAN replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I just called and that was the first time I've heard the "technical difficulties" message. My heart was jumping out of my chest as I typed my info in and then instead of my results, it spit out the "technical difficulties" speach. DANGIT.......thought it was up for a few seconds, gotta be soon! JIM> -
Oh yeah.....that pic of the hogs looks weird 'cause I tried photoshopping the blood off the hogs. Doesn't the one on the left look like that critter that used to be on a TV sitcom, "ALF"
-
Like has been said, the banquet was awesome and was a huge success!!! It actually looked like a CWT.com get together though Got to see a few I already know and meet a couple that I've wanted to meet. It was a pleasure to finally meet and talk to AZ402 (Stan) and Elkhunter (Tyler)!

It makes me sick thinking back on missed opportunities! But for some reason it does seem like good things usually happen when you don't have the camera, the battery is dead or even when the darn thing won't turn on due to condensation! ( happened this year ) Congrats on finding and at least getting to watch one of those all to rare ELF's (Elusive Little Fudgers!) JIM>

You know, it's like watching a train wreck.........you don't want to see it, but you are drawn into it for some odd reason. This all sucks, but it's all part of the excitement I think........'cause we keep feeding into it and watching this thread, checking the AZGFD site and calling the phone! You gotta enjoy it for all it's worth 'cause once the draw comes out......most of us will be emotionally in the gutter wishing we could at least come back to this day, when we still had hope!

Monster Archery Buck *UPDATED*
COOSEFAN replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
C'mon guys, this is dumb to get carried away with name callin' and bickerin' about this topic! EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion and everyone is entitled to agree or disagree with entering a trophy in a book. Just 'cause you disagree with having an animal officially scored does not mean that someone who agrees is wrong.....and vice-versa. Why get upset at somebody for not having the same thoughts or ideas as you? Everyone hunts for different reasons, different objectives, and as long as they are not cheating or breaking a law.......who cares! Why can't people just be happy for someone who achieves their goals and respect their right to their opinions and thoughts? Oh well, GREAT BUCK Jeremy, and thank you for working hard to make sure that your bucks' official score entry was as accurate as possible. -
A buddy from CA called and the operator told him the draw hasn't even happened yet and the results are still 3 weeks away! She told him you are way too early to be calling.....wait a few more weeks! This doesn't mean a darn thing.....they say that every year around this time. I honestly think they tell people that so the public doesn't flood them with calls and hope that those folks spread the rumor and further lessening the amount of calls they get. I know thats what I would do, it's gotta get tiresome and frustrating to answer everyones calls with the same questions!
-
Same here.......and that's exactly why it's gonna be exciting!!!
-
LOTS of guys talking big and saying that they have no limit and are taking the tag home........but I think it's just a scare tactic some guys are using to bully other guys out of even showing up and bidding. It'll definitely go for more than last year........and if not....I'll buy it! (and then I'll be single and living with Pops.......BUT, I'll have a helluva bull on the wall!)
-
Gonna be some serious excitement when that Elk tag goes up for auction.....I bet it sells for more than ever before.......and I GAURANTEE it'll go for more than it did last year oh yeah, I might be there too
-
I have heard the RUMOR that this friday is possible.....but it never seems to be true! Wouldn't this Friday be really close to the same time as last year....so why not?! What I find strange is the lack of talk about the results posting.....usually there is several threads started and lots of rumors flying around! My guess is Friday.......but next week is more likely. Good luck to all. JIM>

I think I was one of the first to spit out the "40,000" number..........and I felt OK saying it 'cause I got that info from within the Dept.!!! Because I thought the number seemed way too high, I re-verified the info several days later and was told the number again........by several individuals within the Dept.! Oh well, sorry about the in-correct info........but if Cabela's is reading this, 568 is no different than 40,000.......causing 1 person to lose out on the draw is bad enough! I bet they get their apps in early on the deer draw JIM>
