    Nice mule deer find

awesome sheds! I agree with Scottyboy, and I'm a survivor of a snake bite. I think I've killed maybe 2 in the last 10 years and I probably see close to 30 a year. I would say that if I had my pups with me and found one before they did I would kill it as fast as possible.....I can't afford a vet bill like that! Sorry to hear about that girl though, I know what it's like

Awesome photos guys, just what I needed! Jason, that video got me all pumped up! I was waitn' for the "BOOM" on that one........I guarantee if the dates were legal, you would've got a "BOOM" outta me!!! What is the story on that one wetmule? I've seen it before and can't remember.........to say that one is a HOG would be an understatement!!! Thanks all! JIM>

Whoohooo! You guys are awesome, thanks for the photos! I remember all of em' except for Tysons big ol' archery flop-ear....were those ever posted? And Tam, I really hope I'm not huntin' up in the pines like you had to....I hate huntin' in the pines, but you did what you had to and got-r-done on great buck! And Johnnie, you know ever since I had your dad and your buck in my hands I have dreamt of the day I held my own....can't wait! Thanks guys, keep postin' even if they've been posted before!!! JIM>

Ain't gonna happen. Them floppy-eared critters could never hold a candle to the passion I've got for Coues....you know that. Just wanna fill that void on my wall and then I'll set another goal.......an archery Coues buck! That was originally my plan this year but the draw messed that up

Here's the Muley I took the last time I drew the Late 12AW tag. I should have held out, but Pops was with me and I "snow-plowed" him at about 100 yards on a dead run so it was very cool. I've wanted this tag ever since so I could finally get a respectable buck on the wall.....can't wait!!!
  9. Freakin' awesome pics and looks like it was an awesome experience! When I was there we fished almost daily, had our own boat, our own lake, could see the darn fish and never caught one! I did have a big Lake Trout bite the weights on my drop-shot rig.....I know he did that just to mock me

    Awesome Flop-Ear Shed....

Thanks guys! Yeah Rembrant, I love that pic and it's my desktop pic now. Drake is definitely "daddy's boy" and does what I do and goes where I go! When you don't have kids your dogs really tend to take on that role in your family....I know my pups are my kids! Thanks, JIM>

2007-08 Big Game Super Raffle Elk

Thanks again, all you guys! I'm glad you weren't dissapointed, I had everyone blowing up my phone telling me how amped up you all were! I seriously was not holding off.......I was stuck up north still packin' up and tryin' to get home ASAP! THEN.....I get home and see 50 people sittin' on the site waiting!!! HOLY COW......you guys are animals, and I'm proud to say I share your same enthusiasm and I'm happy that you all here at CWT.com got to see the pic's first, well, most of em' at least There will be bigger bulls taken this year but this is just an awesome critter to start the season with! Tim did not age the bull, but he was an older bull and I would say right at prime or just over but not super old. Schmitty...pack your bags for the long haul.......you won't be coming home, I saw some bruisers over there! CouesSniper.......I/we underscored that bull because of the mass........I just couldn't bring myself to give him that kind of mass credit on the hoof, that's insane! The bull that he passed up which was standing next to this one is even more insane, we are pretty sure it scored more and is over 50" wide!!!! Thanks again to all the reply's........ everyone involved in that hunt is either members of this site or will be visiting to see your reply's and i know they'll appreciate al the comments! JIM>

I wish there was a way to illustrate how massive that bull is because none of those pic's do it justice! Wait till more people put their hands on it and see what they say about it! I have heard that you can deduct 3% from the score to get an idea what it would be without velvet? I did that up there and came up with over 73" of mass without velvet if that calculation is correct! So, velvet or not, that is insane, it takes a big bull just to hit 60"!!! I think the best way to get an idea of this bull's mass is to look at your own hand and compare it to these photos......my bro doesn't have small hands! Isn't that just crazy!

Thanks again everyone! Stan, we are pretty sure we never saw this bull last year so I don't know. I am starting to think that we are all thinking about two different bulls that we are all calling by the same name.....if that makes any sense? Both are very similar, but the one that is still alive doesn't have an extra this year and is in a totally different area.

Thanks Doug, and yeah it was possible to hunt him with a bow but would have required way too much luck and we decided not to. Clark did have his bow with him on most days and can shoot really well. We had several bulls picked out that were going to be archery bulls, they weren't as big as this guy, but we knew we could get them on the last couple days. The main factor in not using the bow was that the elk in this area are starting to rub and they tend to make big moves at this time and then will move again right before the rut. We didn't want to lose another chance at this bull or our original plan A bull so Clark chose to use the rifle. On a side note, I have heard some folks question why we shot a bull this early and the thing they need to learn is that the bigger bulls finish out earlier than the smaller bulls. These bigger bulls are starting to rub right now and the bull we killed is dried up and pretty much done growing so we had no reservations in shooting him that day! Also, thanks for all your comments and reply's everyone! JIM>

2007-08 Big Game Super Raffle Elk

Alright, sorry again for the delay, we had a bunch of chores left to do before coming home today This is the 2007-08 Big Game Super Raffle Tag and the lucky winner was Clark Guy from CA. Clark had made several trips last year and hunted hard but was holding out for a true monster of a bull! Clark's good friend Tim Pender accompanied him on those hunts last year and they passed up some incredible bulls........ including Wrongway at less than 100 yards!!!! Clark later saw that we took Wrongway and contacted my brother Matt to talk about the bull. The friendship started that day and we invited him to tag along with us as we scouted for our 2008 archery hunts and hopefully we could find that special bull he was looking for before his hunt ended. With months of scouting and thousands of dollars spent on fuel and food, we finally felt a few of the bulls were worthy of Clark's tag and they were finishing out their growth so the hunt was on! Clark invited his friend Tim along to help out and we had Pops and several of our close friends along as well. Pops and a good friend Gary relocated the biggest bull and we hunted him everyday and passed up some incredible bulls in the process.....two of which were 400" class bulls! Clark had his mind made up that he wanted to see our biggest bull in person before he shot a different bull, and with the video camera rolling he actually passed up the bull you just saw in the kill photos! After he passed up that bull I knew this guy had nerves of steel and this hunt could last longer than I thought, so I took my dogs home that evening and planned on returning before the morning hunt.......as you guys now know that was a mistake! That evening, Clark, Tim, and Matt went to the same spot where Clark passed up his bull and that same bull came back out, but he had a buddy.......it was our big bull! Clark had two 420+ bulls standing broadside and decided which one he liked better and took him.....our biggest bull walked off unscathed!!! Clark really liked the huge fronts and mass on this bull and decided he was the one worthy of his tag! The hunt was a blast and was a dream hunt by any standard and we were very excited that Clark would let us help him and share in the experience! We appreciated all the help we got from our friends and family and especially to those who donated their time and money to help scout or be on the hunt! I think it's awesome that Clark's tag is wrapped around such a great bull, there was a lot of money raised for wildlife through the raffle of that tag and it's only fitting that Clark was able to make the very most of his year-long tag and still end up with a bull of a lifetime!

    Drew Kaibab

Hey Allen, I'm the lucky son-of-a-gun that Christian was talking about...........2 BP's and 1 Late 12AW tag! I have applied that hunt first choice for 7 years since the last time I drew it and I have always applied a garanteed Oct. or Nov. Coues tag as 2nd choice so that I get to hunt every year. I never build points, but I've always had a shot at it and still always end up with a Coues tag at least. I already have all of Duwane's books and videos and they will get worn out this year......gonna have to blow the dust off all my Muley videos too! Can't wait! JIM>
