Aww...it flipped a page, here is Shane's cam pic again so it's on the same page for easier camparison. I still think it's the same bull too.
-
I'm not certain, but I would think that has got to be the largest archery Coues buck killed by a woman!!! Freakin' amazing, I couldn't imagine what that felt like walking up on that beast! HUGE congrats to you!!! JIM>

Looks the same to me! Here's the closest angle I have of Clarks bull for camparison, those fronts sure look identical! Great job archiving those photos Shane, always amazes me how organized you guys are with scouting and cam pics! Thanks, JIM>

I'm not very intelligent about stuff like that Mike, although I know what "bedding" is, how can you tell off that photo if it is done right? Just curious and learnin' as I go! Thanks, JIM>

Coosefan's New Thunderstick
COOSEFAN replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Well since I'm unfortunately not out whackin' fuzzy Coues bucks like everyone else, I decided to go throw some lead and get a little more comfortable with the new gun. I have to drive it to Cali tomorrow to give it back and it's gonna be hard to part with it so I figured I'd shoot it once more. Without being sighted in yet, I still had to "walk" the bullet into the target and it took 4 shots at 200 yards to hit center and from that point on it is amazingly accurate! Funny thing is my buddies aren't satisfied with the load yet so they are going to fine tune it this next week and slap on that muzzlebrake.....which I definitely need I don't know the exact colors in the stock because all I did was send them this picture I found and told them I want the same recipe. They looked it up and still had it on file so it worked! The tripod setup is one of several that one of my "retired engineer" buddies built for me, he also builds the shooting sticks that are an important part of the setup. All the implements utilize the Outdoorsmans Tripod legs and I just swap out the center post which makes it easy in the feild. The main thing that makes this setup effective in the field is the shooting sticks supporting the rear of the gun.......if done right it's "bench rest" solid! At 200 yards it's not a problem being this high up off the ground, but any farther than that you have to get as close to the ground as possible for stability. One of the center post attachments he made me is very short and you can drop the tripod low enough to shoot prone, but a backpack works just as good and along with an 8" set of shooting sticks I've got for the rear, it's rock solid in the prone position! Here's the short center post attachment, you can sort of see it....... Here's the longer center post attachment for closer ranges.... -
Casey's little "el chupacabra" is shakin' in it's stock right now!

Coosefan's New Thunderstick
COOSEFAN replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The stock is the Lazzeroni Thumbhole by McMillan. It feels wierd at first but after handling and shoulderin' it for a while it becomes very comfortable and almost like it's a part of you. The one thing that can pose a problem is the high cheek area, you would need higher rings if you have prominent cheek features on your face. The guy working up the loads for me has been complaining for weeks 'cause it slams his cheek bone. It fits me perfectly as is but I can see what he's talkin about. The grip area actually turns out to the side fairly hard as well and most people try to hold it vertically straight up which cants the gun to the side and throws everything off tilt, but once you realize that and get used to angling your wrist, it feels more natural than any other stock i've shot. -

Thanks guys, I did keep it as a 300 Win Mag, the stock took almost 6 months and I still haven't decided if I'll get an actual name stamped on her, but we'll see. I actually feel bad that the first critter it'll hammer is gonna be a Muley, this was to be my Coues rifle, but oh well, I'll just have to make sure it's a monster Muley -
Thanks for all the great reply's everyone, I'm sure Robert will be reading this and I bet he's still on cloud 9! I do want to clarify, that my statement at the beginning of my post about certain individuals using my photos was not directed towards Mossback AZ at all! The Mossback boys have been our closest friends up there and have been nothing but respectful towards us and our operation. Those boys work very hard and it always amazes me at how well they know the area and the critters living in it! Thanks again to them for the great cam pic's!

Here's the link to the story. Better grab a sodie and some popcorn, I was a little "type-happy" http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...mp;#entry113117

I recently found a small hidden pond out in the desert north of Phoenix and went out today to find a way to get a boat in there. We didn't have much time, but I took the ol' lady and a fishing pole and quickly found a good spot. I've never fished it so this was the first time and it was hot so I didn't expect anything. On the 3rd cast with a small Rapala crankbait I caught this decent largemouth! I'll probably have the boat on there this evening, but we have to carry the boat for about 200 yards.....and my aluminum is heavy! Should be worth it though! JIM>

I was in his shop not long ago and the thing that impressed me the most was the ocotillo! He had several finished pedestals there with the ocotillo and I thought it looked fantastic! He does incredible work on detail and realism and it shows in your mount! Freakin' awesome! JIM>

Awesome bull! I'd say 390" give or take 3".............."Click... BOOM"!

Time for a name change!
COOSEFAN replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
That's how I feel, Younghunter is just who you are now and it would be like changin' your real name to something else, just is weird. Maybe just add "Notso" in front of it?......Nah, still sounds wrong.......just keep it the same. -
AND......Tyson really will wish he hadn't started this thread.....Grong, you can blame him, he started it, I just thought you looked like a good dancer! LOL! http://sendables.jibjab.com/view/on6Z5s8BkGopoQp1

Been out for the last 9 days and this is all I've come up with out of 3 different units! I haven't really been shed huntin', but sure would have thought I'd come up with more I was happy to find a "collectors-edition" Muley shed though! I usually walk past the average Muley shed, but this one is awesome! I had my pups with me and a big lightning and thunder storm was hittin' us when i found that shed in a huge sage flat. The sage was chest high and we circled for about 3 hours, soakin' wet and my pups weren't too happy with me......you could tell they thought I had gone crazy and was lost! I did find the big 2 point about 100 yards from the big antler and about 1 hour later but that was it. There's also a couple various pics, one of "Feedin' Buddies", a sunset and then one of my glassin' partner "Drake". JIM> I didn't have a camera with me at the time of finding the shed, so I got this pic this morning with my girl "Harley". Notice she's stickin' her tonue out at her brothers 'cause she got to be in the photo and not them! ( it was their choice )
