Those are some monster Coues bucks for sure!!! From everything I've heard and seen RSO is one of the best outfits in Mexico and I'm proud to see them as a sponsor of this site! I'm saving my pennies and hope one day I can personnally check them out! JIM>

Thanks again guys! My brother, Ian and I jumped up as soon as we heard those guys shoot the bull and ran back to the truck so we didn't lose any more time. With only 3 days to hunt we didn't want to waste a minute of it so we headed higher up to chase bugles. That morning in particular Ian passed up 4-5 bulls with the biggest being a solid 340" type at 20 yards screaming right at him! Like I said earlier, Ian wouldn't have experienced that if it were him pulling the trigger at first light! My dad and Ian's dad went over to see the bull and to congratulate the hunters, the bull was a solid 370 type bull as well but opposite from Ian's bull, the other bull had a huge bottom end and smaller top end and a little wider, a stud bull for sure, but I think Ian's is better looking

I spent the whole hunt and the early rifle hunt in 3 different units and it was tough but it depended alot on where you hunted....elevation seemed to be the key! We noticed the higher elevations had better rutting activity probably due to the cooler temps. The full moon made it hard but it seemed to get harder once the moon went away which was different than we predicted, but it got hotter mid-day too at that time! One crazy problem we had was that the biggest sounding bulls were the smaller bulls for some reason, I saw a small 4 point raghorn with the deepest growl you've ever heard, I wasted an entire evening set up on that dude! I believe the rut is late, the bulls are spread out and you needed to find the pockets of bugles which could be anywhere and everywhere at times, but once we found a pocket of bulls the rut was intense and more so in the AM as usual. This past week definitely was better than the 2 weeks prior and I'm sure they are hittin' it hard in most areas right now! Best of luck to all who still have tags to use!

Ha, I was just picking up the phone to call Gino as I scrolled through those pics and saw T-Rex! Out of all the bulls in this state and here he is posted up on CWT.com.......that is cool! Great job with the scouting, hope he's not dead, but hope a CWT.com member tags him! JIM> -

whatever happened to Ernesto C???
COOSEFAN replied to fatfootdoc's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
This is an awesome thread! I agree with everyone Ernesto was a great asset to this site and brought a great attitude towards hunting, life and friendship here. I remember when I first joined, I had been lurking on the "other" site also but I loved the comraderie and politeness found here and I remember Ernesto was always a huge contributer of those qualities to this site! I've never met him in person, but I know via emails he's one of the nicest guys I've met! Hope to see ya on here again soon Ernesto, and may god bless you more -
Freakin' awesome! That bull is amazing! Huge congrats to the McClendon crew and especially to Mr. Cramer! Great job and thanks for sharing that with us Stan! JIM>

Here's a couple more that we helped with..... This is Mikey's 351" bull that Jeff and Shorty called in to 10 yards on the archery hunt! And here is a bull that a hunter by the name of "Guy" harvested with the help of Jeff. Jeff was scouting different areas for us without a hunter, ran into Guy and took him out! The first bugle they found came running in and with a little help from the decoy the bull closed the distance and Guy made a great shot! Jeff did a great job helping out a complete stranger and made a new friend in the process! Congrats to Guy on a great archery bull! Still waitin' on the rest of the photos! I'm not sure if this season lived up to the expectations we all had, but it was a great season nevertheless! Thanks, JIM>

Thanks guys, we have been very fortunate this year with the class of people that hunted with us, it definitely makes what we do more enjoyable! As a side note, on opening morning before light we were sitting in the truck waiting a few more minutes before getting out and hiking to a pre-determined spot. We had a great bull picked out and just knew lead was going to fly in only a matter of an hour! Just then two trucks full of guys with 1 tag pulled up and parked right behind us! We didn't want Ian's hunt to consist of a foot race with another hunter so we moved the truck and hiked in further to set up on where the bull would go after light. Unfortunately for us the bull was late getting out of the meadow and didn't quite make it to us before those folks ran in and shot him at first light! Unknown to us at the time it was a blessing in disguise, the next few days following that incident were filled with full-on ruttin' experiences for all of us and Ian still ended up with a similar bull in the last hour of his hunt! Can't beat that! Tyler, Ian is deaf but has implants that help him out, definitely a remarkable young man! John, I still don't like the name "R.B." at all but it stuck unfortunately This bull is also known as "High-Five" which is alot better if you ask me Thanks all, I'm sure Ian will see all your reply's!

Howdy folks, I ran home for a few hours to do laundry and visit my wife and four-legged kids last night and now headin' out the door again! The rut is picking up in most units and lots of great bulls takin' dirt naps! Here are a few of the ones we've had the pleasure of helping with. First is Tasha's bull (Dertrax's wife), this was her very first archery hunt and first big game with a bow! She looked like a seasoned hunter out there, staying calm and placing a perfect shot on this bull as it came in screaming to 13 yards! Second is Vance's great bull, this is also his first archery bull and after passing up many others Vance just couldn't pass up this one on his 2nd to last day of hunting! We do have several more that hit the ground but I don't have pic's yet, I'll have them in a couple more weeks when I return! Congrats to all the successful hunters so far and best of luck to the ones still out there hunting!!! Take care, JIM>

HA HA HA.....she just walked in the door with El Pollo Loco Baby!!! I love it when she brings me dinner! Take care all, I'll be gone for a while but will have pics when I return! JIM>

I'm sure that works fine David, but my buddy's are VERY stuck in their ways....I was actually surprised they swapped me out of the Nosler BTips! They are shooting those with incredible accuracy out to 1000 yards in guns identical to mine, but obviously no two guns are exactly alike, so I'm guessing Accubonds will be what I'm stuck with. I don't have the time to get serious about this reloading stuff, but I do have the time to get aquainted with my gun so it works perfectly having guys reload for me that know exactly what my gun likes and doesn't like. I just kinda feel like a "cheater" becuase I'm not putting in my homework and effort with perfecting the loads myself. Oh well.....I'm still not complainin'! I did find out that my gun is the 112th custom rifle built by one of my buddies......he knows a little about it I think!

After Dertrax hammered our Plan A, my client, Kyle Beaty, took this awesome buck a few days, and several feet of snow, later! Lookin' at these pics has me all fired up for my tag this year!
-
Ya find it yet I can't find the feild pic's I took, but here is a cell pic of the mount that Dertrax (Ruben) took for ya. The pic doesn't show it well, but this buck is all webbed out along the beams and is very impressive in your hands!

Well, I wish I was as knowledgeable about reloading and shooting as you all, but I'm learning as fast as I can! I took my new rifle back to CA to my buddies and they are still working up the perfect load. The muzzlebrake has been installed and I've been told it shoots like a dream now! I started by sending them what they told me traditionally works in "their" .300 Winny's. I bought and shipped 500 rounds of 180gr Nosler Ballistic Tips, Winchester brass and a 5lb jug of RL22. Appearantly my gun doesn't like that combo, so my buddy's just inherited all the stuff I bought! They have now figured out that my gun DOES like once-fired Federal brass, H4350 and 180gr Accubonds and they have it shooting in the mid .3's at 100yrds! I was excited to hear that, but they are not happy with it yet and are still tweaking it. My buddy's are insane about perfection........ but I'm not complainin'! I'm sure I'll be on here after I'm done with these elk hunts hammerin' you all with questions so brace yourselves for that! I've already got a shooting range set up near the house which will get well used and will probably have a shooting range set up in my elk units so I can shoot in the middle of the day......I'll just make sure it's close to where everyone else is hunting! JUST KIDDING!!! JIM>

I'll see if I can't find it....

Hey Mark, I just read that you have to get to the Wildlife area by 4:00 am on either Sat. or Sun. as they are "assigning" shooting stations at that time. The Chandler Rod and Gun club is helping and will have a pancake and sausage breakfast for everyone also! I would guess that to get a good shooting station it's probably adviseable to be there early. OR.......you could drive past (around) the Wildlife area, and head further West and find your "own" shooting station off the refuge! There will be doves flying out of the salt cedars in the river bed all the way along it to the west. The Wildlife are has planted feilds within it's boundary, so it is probably the place to be for the best action for the kids. Again, good luck. JIM>

Way to go Blake! What a stud 'Loper! That buck is perfect and has it all........couldn't imagine wrappin' an archery tag on that one! I can relate to your ordeal though, it took me 3 days, 3 hits, and 1 miss to finally tag my archery antelope. I even went one entire day without ever seeing my antelope but stuck with it and finally finished what I started. That was the most emotional roller-coaster I'd ever been on and never want to ride that one again! Huge congrats to you for stickin' with it, awesome story and outstanding pics! JIM>
-
Welcome to the site! I'll send a PM to ya, but in return, you have to post a story along with the pics of your hunt later! JIM>

AND to this day I'm still upset at you for shooting MY buck! Just kidding bro, what a stud buck that was, and you deserved it JIM>
