    Skin 2

I like the Club skin, the colors are easier on the eyes than the old fashioned white pages.....especially when you spend as much time as I do on here!

    08 Coues sheds

That's awesome Tyson! Ever since I was little I always dreamed I would figure out the scientific method for finding Coues sheds........and I still haven't figured it out! It just amazes me with how many of those critters run the hills, why is it so hard to stumble on to their sheds? I know the usual answer is TONS of shoe leather worn, but geez there has to be some method to it! Whats the secret Tyson? Congrats on the pile! JIM>

    Cool snow pics

My bro and I spent a few days scoutin' around last week and kept getting snowed on so it was pretty uneventful. I did see a few deer, no ruttin' activity though. All in all i came home with these pics and a serious cold that i just haven't shaken yet. I know a few of ya know exactly where these pics were taken....please keep it to yourself! Thanks Notice anything unusual about this pic? I guess it isn't that hard to see it, but here is a little closer pic, thought it was pretty cool!

Looks and sounds like a trip of a lifetime right there Josh! Huge congrats to you and Gail for getting to experience all that! BTW....How did you like that Lazzeroni thumbhole stock on Jim's rifle? Takes a little getting used to it, but I love mine.....I just thought I was the only weirdo that owned one of those.........sorry, no offense on the "weirdo" part Jim Congrats again on great bucks! The Claw

No, mine is different. The one I have is shaped like a field goal, the sides adjust to fit snug with the stock and the bottom is flat to the plate making it very ridgid. It also is padded well and helps grip the gun, I can actually adjust it to act just like the Claw, but I've learned that having too much contact, or too tight of contact with the stock from a support actually negatively affects MY rifle. This wouldn't be a problem if I sighted my rifle in using this exact setup with the fork sitting in the exact spot on the stock. The foundation under the tripod or what ever you shoot off of can negatively affect your accuracy too. I've been learning all this as I go but it's amazing how many variables affect accuracy.......and all this really only comes into play when shooting very long distances. I would guess that it is best to sight in your rifle using the same setup you plan on using in the field, or at least practice a bunch off of your hunting support no matter what it is.

    The Claw

That would be great, I look forward to your results! The one thing I do differently is my sticks are custom built by a friend of mine and are sturdier than any store bought sticks and the top ends are shortened so they don't dig into your face while under the butt of the gun. Also the front fork I have is custom but it is just pretty much a standard "U" shaped fork which is mounted to a Jim White adapter plate that i just slide into the Jim White Pan head. I might need to show Mr. White what I've got here!

    The Claw

I haven't checked this product out yet, but it sure looks like you wouldn't have a "dead rest" with it on a tripod for long distance shots. There is a lot of weight in a rifle, just look how much your 15's can wobble when there is a breeze, even off a heavy duty Bogan......imagine how much a 7-10 lb. rifle will move? For me it looks more beneficial for locking a gun in for a person who is having a hard time finding the animal, but at reasonable distances. For long distance shooting (400-800) yards I feel it requires a rock solid rest with absolutely no wobble! I still swear by my tripod on the front and shooting sticks under the rear technique, once situated, the rifle sits on it's own and all you have to do is reach around and pull the trigger......just like a bench! Anything less than that affects accuracy. Cool product nonetheless, wish it were cheaper, I'd keep one in my pack while guiding for sure! JIM>

    Ethics

I wish I was around to read what happened to that thread, I did reply to it and I was the one who said..."Some things you just don't do....and some things you just don't post". I hope my comment wasn't too offending to the guy, it was meant more for constructive advice but this happened to be a topic I have strong feelings for! It really gets under my skin hearing about, reading about, and witnessing hunters shooting way beyond their comfort level just "HOPING" they hit what they are shooting at! No matter what anyone says, it's still going to happen every year on every hunt....I just hate reading about it on an open forum. In this particular case, according to the wording, it was clear that it was a giant buck and the opportunity to take him was fading so shots were fired in hopes that maybe one will connect.......even though it had to be at least 600 yards! Then to hear that the buck indeed was wounded becuase of the "attempted" shots makes me upset. I didn't need to hear that, and the same goes for several other stories we've heard this past season, if you shoot way beyond your means, wound several animals on your hunt, or leave a wounded animal in the field because you want to head back to camp for lunch.........don't tell us about it! I know, as well as most of you do, that bad things can happen even to the most prepared and skilled hunter....that's a fact and is something we all deal with when it happens. There is ethics, laws, and our individual limitations that we must follow in order to minimize the risk of any bad things happening on our hunts. I do enjoy hearing all the details of a hunting story, but you have to be tactful and respectful to the sport, the animal, and the veiwers that are on the outside looking in! First and foremost, if you are respectful to all these things than you will never have any reason to hide the details!

    Word screening

You guys all have valid points, I agree that some words that get changed or nuked are not swear words in the adult world, but to a child it's different! That's why we try to keep this site "cleaner" than any other.......we have a lot of young members here and are trying to be respectful of them and help them enjoy this site as much as we do. Almost everytime I log on here i have to change words around, I'm not very strict with it, I let quite a bit slide, but it would be so much easier if everyone just kept it clean. If you do feel the need to use swear words just head over to one of the "other" sites and let it out.......then come back over here Thanks for helping us keep this a "family-friendly" site! JIM>
