    Making The Most Of Leftovers!

Thanks for the reply's all! I just got home from yet another "Leftover Tag Hunt" and again we had a blast to say the least! We went 6 for 6 in 2 different units so far and again we witnessed another first time hunter tagging his first animal, Great times! bmf1321, I was using my old Canon GL2 on these past 2 hunts and it has seen better days for sure! It still takes good video even tho it's been drug around, dropped and rained on over the past several years! roninflag, that was a gun that some friends of mine built for me this year. That was it's 2nd hunt, the first was when I shot my bear a couple months ago. It's a cheap Rem model 700 7mm that I bought at Wal-mart, tore it apart and gave the action to my buddy. He did the accurizing and added a #2 contour Hart barrel, Hunters Edge Ultralight stock by McMillan, Tally Rings, Leupold VXIII 6.5-20x50 Long Range Target scope w/ fine duplex and windage turret removed, Jewell trigger and he even broke it in and worked up the loads for it. This gun shoots the 140gr Nosler ballistic tips best with once fired brass. This gun was built to be my "ultra light" backpack rifle because the first rifle they built me weighs a ton! I've already put over 100 rounds through it, not including break-in and load work-up, and off my hunting set-up it's shooting under MOA out to 700 yards. Thanks again folks! JIM>

    Wanted to hold out....

  7. I started a different thread with video and story, here's the link: http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...c=21989&hl= Howdy folks, I just got home this evening from 10 days in the coues woods and loved every second of it!!! We had 4 tags in camp between myself and 3 of my friends and finally peeled the backing off the 4th tag last night at last shooting light! It was a tough hunt in our leftover unit, the grass was unbelievably tall and thick but we had a great time regardless and pounded some coues bucks in the process! I've got 3 of the bucks on video as they got hammered from 380 to 590 yards! None of those were big bucks but it didn't matter to the guys pulling the trigger, we were all out there to just have fun and enjoy the hunt! Once i get all the pics loaded and hopefully some video clips I'll write a full detail story as soon as I can. I promised my wife I'd take her out tonight and she's waiting on me, but here's a couple pics of my opening day buck for now. He's not a giant but definitely a buck I just had to have Thanks, JIM>

    Glassing

There is TONS of great info in this thread! If I were to add my advice I would only be re-iterating what has already been said. Key points that have already been said but are important and basically sums it all up for me are: -Patience is probably the most important thing -Confidence is equally as important and will help with your Patience -Staying comfortable will help with your Patience and Confidence -You'll never go wrong glassing with the Sun in your face, on any hunt -You'll never go wrong glassing with the Wind in your face, on any hunt Also, I would copy and paste Coach's reply into my brain, great info! Not a monster but it will do

That is a great buck!!! When I shot mine last week I sat there and felt he wasn't that good of a buck and wished I had killed a better buck.......then I kicked myself in the butt and came back to reality! It is hard seeing all the giant bucks being killed but that doesn't change the fact that no matter how you shake it, any 80" class buck or better is STILL a good buck and any 100" class buck is STILL a GREAT buck!!! I have the same problem with elk, 330-350" class bulls are STILL great bulls, just can't get sucked into the trophy crap nowdays and gotta keep yourself in reality! sorry for the rant with my $.02, i know you saw a bigger buck but the one you got is STILL a GREAT buck man, congrats! JIM>
  13. What a stud buck, absolutely gorgeous!!!! Congrats! JIM>

Great story of a great hunt Gino!!! Tell Tina I'm happy as heck for her and she deserved such a great buck no doubt! Good luck

Whoohoo! It's almost 2:30 am and I just got done packing and re-packing my gear and ready to head south in a couple hours!!! It's been WAY too long since I had a deer tag in my pocket and i can't wait! I'll be in 35B dodging bullets and hidin' from the mexican Ninja's, I'll hopefully scrounge up a buck in the process! Best of luck to all you early hunters! JIM>

    An Adventure to Remember

YOU ARE THE MAN SHORTY! I really wish I could've been there to experience it with ya! I kept thinking what an adventure that must've been to do it ALL BY YOURSELF!!! Heck, just the logistics of it, planning, driving there and doing the whole hunt by yourself takes some serious dedication and to still come home with a trophy is simply amazing bro! Huge congrats to you, one day I wanna grow up and be like you, no joke! JIM>

    Video of my Elk hunt

Hey Christian, great video! I enjoyed watching it, never got bored and never lost interest, your narration kept the storyline going and it flowed nicely. My only thought would be you should add a little segment showing up close your RangeSnap and how useful it is! Promote that product man, it's awesome! I've told everyone I've run into how much I've used and love mine! Congrats on a great bull and awesome video! JIM>
