  1. That's the one! It looks perfect, how do you like it? I always have either a foam pad or a tripod chair and every time I wish I had something with a backrest. Is the backrest adjustable? Thanks, JIM
  2. I've been using a Win. model 70 .270 classic featherweight, with 130gr Nosler ballistic tips. I have the VXIII 4.5-14x40mm w/ B+C reticle and love the set-up. I use and love the Outdoorsman's tripod especially with the Jim White pan-head on top. I carry EL 8.5x42's on me and SLC 15x56's in the pack, I don't leave home without em'! I also have the Swaro 20-60x80HD scope and love it, but hate carrying it!!!! I have the case and strap for it and is fine by itself but not with two other optics, tripod and everything else! I try to get someone to go with so they can carry it The spotter is overboard because like has been said, I can tell if it's big enough through my 15's, but with picky hunters, you need a better look before making them cross a canyon. I also use and swear by the Leica rangefinder and my Badlands 2200 pack. My goal for this year is to find a glassing pad with a backrest of some sort. I heard REI had one that works good and light, anyone seen it? To be able to sit behind your optics comfortably for hours would definitely increase success. If you plan on using a tripod ALOT, I would pay the money for the Outdoorsman with the Jim White head. If not, Bushnell has one that is awesome for around $200.00 at the Warehouse. My Bro-n-law bought one and took the Bushnell stickers off and you would think he paid alot more for it, really nice tripod though, light and sturdy. JIM

    Mexico Wood Pile Buck

Congrats on the bird! That is an awesome Turkey photo you got there as well! That skull is amazing to say the least, tricky pic though for size comparison, but it looks huge compared to whats left of the attached skull! You got any other pic's of it? Thanks, JIM

    Rhino or Ranger?

I have yet to encounter something where I needed to put it in 4WD! I swear, especially with the new aftermarket tires, I think it will climb a cliff! I'm also having a bumper built for the Rhino and I installed two 55W PIAA lamps on the front, a DynaFS CDI box and a Rectifier thing-a-majig that created a monster compared to stock performance, and a Digital dash also. I think the winch will be the last thing I do then I'm done. This thing is like a mini sandrail when you want it to be, or let off the gas and you got a huntin' machine! I'll post pic's when it's together. Thanks, JIM

    Rhino or Ranger?

Hey David, that thing looks cool! Heck if I wanted to steal it for myself, I know right where it's at because of that last pic! JIM
  7. I snagged this pic from and email and figured it's interesting enough to share. It's obviously baby Porkypines, I can't decide if they're cute or not, it's a toss up because cute things are usually cuddly or fluffy and these even as babies don't look too cuddly. Ever seen a baby Porkypine before? Thanks, JIM
  8. They do look like hedgehogs, but the email said Porcupines. I have seen small young Porcupines and they have long soft hairs and almost look like you could safely hold one, these don't look that way! From the ones I've personally seen, I always thought they didn't have sharp quills right away as babies. I bet it would be painful to give birth to those things in the pic! JIM

    Happy Birthday

Hope you had a great day today! I saw my first CWT.com sticker last Sat. I think it was you, red dodge dakota ext-cab? I was the idiot in the white van that whipped in the parking spot next to you at Lowes by the Warehouse. I saw the truck from an isle over and went to park by you to chat but you were leaving by the time I got over there, I actually made you hit the brakes as you were backing up, sorry. Neat to finally see another sticker though, happy B-day! JIM
  12. I didn't think I was ready for a new dog but my dad's Lab had puppies and were going fast so I grabbed one. We have a German Shorthair that seemed to be really missing her buddy so we hoped this would cheer her up, and I think it did. With a lot of consideration his name ended up as "Drake". I had others I liked better but appearantly I didn't have much choice in the matter, the wife liked Drake! Cool name for a duck huntin' dog though. Thanks, JIM

    New Toy

That is a great set-up and I love the shirt as well! I was planning on getting that same gun/caliber also. I decided i'm taking a rifle to Alaska but want a handcannon to keep with me 24/7, for peace-of-mind if nothing else. JIM

I had my wife try to get on the site today on her computer at work and it crashed it Thats when I found out it wasn't just my computer Thanks again Amanda for correcting the problem. JIM

    Found a couple more

We snuck out again yesterday to go shed hunting. We started out looking for the bulls that my buddy Bret had found last weekend and then hiked around where they had been. We only found a few old small sheds there and then moved to one of the smaller hills. I went to one side with a good friend, Cary, and Bret went to the other side. Cary has hunted his whole life and has only found two elk sheds! He gets very frustrated about that and thinks he just has bad luck. This frustration has kept him away from shed hunting itself but still goes out once in a while. Cary and I were paralleling each other along the hill when I heard him hootin' and hollerin'! I thought he might have found one of the small brownies we usually find in that spot and figured the excitement in his voice was from finally finding a shed of any size. I ran to him and surprisingly found him holding up a beautiful brown set! He was extremely excited and definitely deserved the find! The funny thing is 5 minutes before he found the sheds, he picked up a horseshoe and stuck it in his pocket, hoping it would change his luck! I doubt he will ever part with that lucky horseshoe! JIM This is Cary with his first set of brownies, notice his lucky horseshoe in his pocket! This is Bret's son Jake, Cary and Bret's Brother Bart.

Thanks for the videos! That looks like fun, but jumping them things looks hard on your butt and your FACE! OUCH! Thanks, JIM

Good idea, but it would be hard to steal it because he probably sleeps with it! Finding those sheds was a big deal to him and he believes the horseshoe played a big part! Thanks, JIM

    Rhino or Ranger?

I appreciate the offer Keith! I would hate to make someone come help me in some of the places we hunt though. I hunt a spot in NM that is 8 miles one way on a quad road, straight down a huge canyon. We hunt that spot every year and haven't had any problems yet with quads breaking, but when it happens, it's gonna suck! Those places are why I'm all about dependability with your ride. Thanks, JIM

    Rhino or Ranger?

Hey David, Glaspro Rules! And you know it! That looks like fun putting that thing together! Looks like you got some Bling Bling on it already. If I were mechanically inclined I might have went that route but I'm not. I would be afraid something would break miles from anywhere and I would be sitting there scratching my head! It would be 10 times worse if I had a client with me, unless he was a Suzuki mechanic! I'm also pretty sure I would have to put a lowering kit on that thing to get it in my trailer instead of a lift kit. I can't wait to see it finished, it looks like it's gonna be a badass huntin' machine! For the record, I know that just because my Rhino is new doesn't mean it won't break! As with anything I guess, you just have to be careful and cross your fingers. Thanks, JIM

    Went looking...

Thats an awesome way to get your daughter out in the woods! She looks like she really enjoyed it, especially not having to do the hiking! I know I would! I heard one turkey gobbling at first light on Sun. in 6A, he did it a few times coming off is roost then shut up early. Made me wish I had a tag! Good luck with yours! JIM

See, I said it would be easy to figure out where we were! Them pic's are about as good as GPS coordinates! I'm more careful in other units when taking pic's. There is guys out there that will work harder at finding YOUR spot than what it would take to find there own. like I said, that area is good, but it's obviously not a secret spot. The elk had been there, but it's a hard place to shed hunt because they move all around. You have to be on the right hill, at the right time to do much good, and even then, you'll most likely only find little "6a" sheds. That set Cary found is the best ones we've ever found in that unit. I believe you need to drop into some of the huge canyons around there to find some bigger sheds. The only way you'll get me to drop into them is if I had a Coues tag in my pocket! Thanks, Jim

Yep, them are the Peaks. If someone were to try and find this spot by looking at these pic's, it would be easy if they've been around it before. I'm not worried about it though because everyone and there brother has probably hunted that unit at one time or other, it gets pounded in the fall. There is still some good stuff there though, but I don't particularly like the unit, it always feels "used and abused" there. Thanks, JIM
