TONY, I have a photographic memory and have never forgotten how perfect your bear was, I knew it had to be the same one! I did see the article you wrote about their strip bucks, but I really liked our article better! That was the first time my ugly mug was pictured in a national publication, John was also my first actual "client" and I had put alot of hard work into that hunt, ending up with a monster bull on the ground within the first hour of opening day! That all made it very special but to have the hunt in print and knowing it was experienced by everyone that read the article, made it even better! Thanks again! JIM>

Hey TONY, did Marc Plunkett mount that life-size for you? I saw one that was just about finished that looked exactly like yours. I just remembered being awe-struck at how beautiful the coat was on that bear! It was incredibly perfect like it just came out of a hair salon and was a perfect cinnamon color phase through-out. It was a while ago when I was picking up my life-size that I saw it but I swear it looked just like yours in that photo? B.T.W........You did a great job writing an article for some past clients of mine, the Noble family and there AZ Bulls, it was a couple of years ago, but I just wanted to say thanks, it was a great article! I met Chuck Adams

We had Adams at the R.M.E.F. booth this year at the Expo a couple of months ago. Growing up, I had always idolized him, and read anything he published and my favorite pic of him was him with that monster Coues buck he killed on the Res here in AZ. I had always dreamed of meeting him and constantly thought of what I would say to him if I had the chance. I walked up by him at the expo and noticed he did look smaller in person ( helps make animals look bigger in pictures), but I didn't feel interested in talking to him anymore. I had learned over the years that he did have alot of help and there is probably hundreds of guys out there that should get a little credit for most of his trophies, and not JUST him. Most of these guys are always "behind the scenes doin the dirty work" and he gets to do the fun part. He is an incredible archer, innovator, hunter and writer and deserves all the credit he gets, but now, I would rather meet and talk to the guys that helped him along the way! My thoughts about Mr. Adams changed a little when he walked up to my buddy's bull at an awards banquet and told him, " Anybody can kill a 400"plus non-typical bull"! That wasn't fair to my buddy! I told him that is why Chuck has to always wear "beanies" instead of hats, they stretch better to fit his big head! JIM>
  5. Hey David, you know what "big truck syndrome" is don't you? It's compensation for a little _ _ _ _! ..........wait a sec......I have a big truck too sorry!
  6. Thought this would be a good topic to get some more photos to look at in the off-season. My personal best trophy is this archery Antelope I harvested spot-n-stalk, it was a life-long dream of mine to harvest an archery Antelope spot-n-stalk style, and came true two years ago. My second best, and also a life-long goal, was this archery bear. It was spot-n-stalk as well and is also my favorite kill photo. Can't wait to see some more pic's, thanks, JIM.
  7. Unfortunately the draw in NM was not good to us at all this year! Does anyone know of landowners selling Bull tags. I am interested in buying some tags for the early archery bull hunts preferably in the 16's or in the 15's? Early rifle hunt tags would be even better and "unit wide" only. I appreciate any info, thanks, JIM> p.s......I can pay top dollar for any 16A "unit wide" Bull tags for early archery or early rifle.
  8. That's awesome! While you were out playin with a Coues buck, I was sweatin' my a$$ off at work He does look like he'll be a good buck! Thanks, JIM>

    San Carlos: November hunt

Well I'm not getting that Nov. tag after all My buddy called and talked to the director of the Res G+F and was told he could keep the Nov. tag AND his January 07 tag!? Oh well, it was exciting thinking I MIGHT get a chance at it at least! The director guy at first didn't even know what the rules were about it and had to call him back later, which he did today and told him to just keep it! I had emailed the Res my questions on this subject and 6 days later.......no response? It's frustrating but, oh well, what can WE do about it? Thanks anyways for the info! JIM.
  11. I guess, i don't know much about it, but the Rez won't allow guys to have BOTH the November AND the January tags at the same time, yet I know guys that have done it for years? My buddy has to return one of his tags, the Nov. tag, and I think I'm going to try and buy it. I don't know yet if it will be possible, but that would mean there's one tag left if he takes his back, right? Anyways, I know how my buddies hunts have gone, but I was curious how others have done on the Nov. hunt there. My favorite unit has always been unit B and I know a little about unit C, but I have never been there in Nov. Any ideas? Is it worth the price? Has anybody bought the two tags and had them call you 6 months later wanting one back? Here's a pic of my buddies last Nov. Rez buck. Thanks, JIM.
  12. I am hardly ever in Coues country in the Spring time when they loose their headgear. I have always wondered if they move far out of their normal haunts during this time of year? I have always thought they moved a little and was the reason why I find only a few sheds during scouting/hunting season in the areas where I know they are in the late Fall. I know desert Mulies will drop in the same areas because they have no reason to change elevations very far throughout the year, but do the Coues move much in the Spring? Thanks, JIM.

Congrats to all that were successful! I just got done checking everyone I know, and I don't know if I have ever seen the word "unsuccessful" that many times! My buddies that got the late 2B Mulie hunt are ecstatic about it! Hey crazyaboutcoues, congrats on that tag, great hunt! Thanks, JIM

What do Coues do in the Spring?

Hey Allen, that's interesting about the flats or saddles between ridges. I have noticed, especially in an area I hunted last year, that there were always rubs or scrapes in these areas. I had made it a point to hike to different saddles just to look for scrapes/rubs, and there always seemed to be one, some old, some fresh. I just figured it was because of their habit of crossing at these points causing intersecting trails, but I wonder if they still rub a little in the spring on the same rubs they use during the winter, and knock their antlers off or loosen them up? Again, I'm a "Couesfan" but I can never get out there during the spring/summer time, so I have no clue! Thanks again for the insight! JIM

    Massive Forest Fire

Hey Scott, I am always amazed by your pic's! You use a Leica camera don't you? If so, what model is it? Even those pics of you guys out fishin were awesome, your pics are always very sharp and the colors always look right. That looks more like a volcano erupting than a fire, unfortunately it looks like it is a bad fire. Thanks, JIM.

What do Coues do in the Spring?

Quote: " This is my first year looking for Coue's sheds. I started in late April and was skunked for a whole month. I found my first one in late May, since then I have averaged about 2 sheds every morning that I go out to a new area (10 fresh sheds, 6 old ones so far). " Neo. Well, I figured it out, the reason I find so few sheds is because Neo found em' all! I would be one happy dude if I found half or even a quarter the amount of sheds you have found Neo! I spend ALOT of time in Coues country later in the year, and I have always had a problem with spending too much time looking for sheds than for actual deer when walking around. I still don't find as many as I would think. The areas I hunt have alot of bucks, and there should be twice as many sheds laying around, right? That is why I asked my question about where they go in the Spring. I know they are hard to find but it just always frustrates me that I have such a hard time finding them, even though I always look for them. I'm sure it would be different if I could spend more time out there at this time of year, I am jealous of you guys that can! I swear there is something special about them darn little antlers and the critters that grew them! It's an addiction for sure! Thanks for the info guys! Jim.

    San Carlos: November hunt

They are getting $1,000.00 for the Nov. tags and are good for A,B, and C. No he didn't kill in Jan. I know they sold 2 tags to other guys also, they must have just recently changed a rule or something because I don't understand why they would sell 2 tags to one hunter if you can't have 2 tags?! Then again, we have bought alot of Bear tags over the years, and they almost always mess something up and most employees in the office aren't up to date on the rules & reg's, and THEY work there! One year we bought all 10 bear tags for unit B and still ran into other hunters with unit B bear tags?!!! Never got an explanation for that one! You always have to double check everything you receive from them and always write down names of individuals that tell you what you can do and can't do. I personally don't mind the 1 tag a year deal, it does give guys a better chance if they don't happen to be in the front of the line! Regardless of all that, I still love the place and have always wanted to hunt Coues there, hopefully I can grab that tag first! Thanks, JIM I did email them my questions on the issue, I'll post what they reply back.

    Pack Llamas

I'll trade you 3 overweight, out-of-shape, but "extremely cute" Mules for your Llama's? Seriously, if I didn't have those I would take you up on your offer, I've heard they're awesome critters! Good luck! JIM

Thanks AZGUIDE! Yeah that's me and Travis's bro is a "doughnut eater", I've known them boys for a long time. It's definitely a small world! This is the last buck "Craig, the doughnut eater", and I killed together. I hope we're busy enough this season so I can take you up on your guide offer! Thanks again, JIM
  25. Nothin' compares to a muzzeloader RUT hunt for bull elk, anywhere! Second choice would be a muzzeloader LATE hunt for Mulies north of the Colorado River! Third would have to be throwin' lead across the prairie at Antelope, anywhere! JIM
