    Freaks of the Woods

Alright, here is my favorite "freak" shed in my little collection. I found this one in Unit 9 from a Muley and I have never been able to figure out if it's off the right side or the left! JIM>

    Freaks of the Woods

Hey Christian, that's a good one! I would love to see the matching side to that one! Here's another one I found down south. It looks like the beam was broke off and the G3 was bent down before it had finished growing! You can see the marrow inside the hole like it had been broken. JIM>

    Freaks of the Woods

This is another cool find. I found this shed about 2 miles as a crow flies from where that skull was found. I found it the same year as the skull and it looked to be from the previous year. I don't think it's the same buck, but it could be! There is a definite difference in the bend on the beam, very similar on everything else though, maybe it is a genetic abnormality and not an injury? July too Late?

I'll be the first to say I can't I can't either If I had Double-eye-guards' abilities.....I would be out there right now pickin' em all up! There is always a few sheds on the ground, not all get picked up, it just gets a little harder as the year goes on after the drop. The key is: "the more shoe leather worn off..........the better your odds"!
  13. Alright, I finally got my computer back and running and here's my story, I'll try to make it short This all started last year when I hunted with Howell Wildlife Outfitters and Chihuahua Rough Country Outfitters in Mexico. I made fast friends with them and signed on to be a guide/booking agent for them and the past month was my first time guiding there! We started with two clients on a ranch in the lower country and had good weather on the first day. My client was from CA. and had hopes of a 110" class buck or better for the first few days. Opening day we found this buck..... My client, Steve, decided he would pass this buck holding to his 110" or better goal! Unfortunately, the next 3 days were nonstop rain, wind, fog and snow! With the devastating weather change we realized it probably wasn't a good idea to pass the 105"class buck up, so we hunted hard for him during those 3 days. This is Steve right after we just had a low 90's buck at 70 yrds chasing a doe in the fog and rain on the 4th day. The 5th day started the same as we hiked to our spot but cleared up late in the morning and we only had a light wind to contend with. I have never rattled or grunted for deer but I had a call and a rattle bag in my pack and decided to give it a try as we ate our lunches at our glassing spot. I rattled one series and threw in a few grunts when I noticed Steve raising his rifle. I looked ahead through the grass and there was a beautiful buck staring right at me at less than 60 yrds! "BOOM", Steve's rifle spoke and the buck was down! He was ecstatic to harvest this buck as was I, we had endured 3 full days of being soaked to the bone and a 22 mile round trip Rhino ride every day! Steve's buck grossed 97" and has a small kicker on it's left G2. to be continued...........

    Archery Hunting in Arizona

This is good info.........the AZ trail winds smack dab in the middle of some of my favorite "honey holes"! WHT-MTNMAN also has great info.........the "stalkability" of an area is a huge consideration! Your time is better spent in an area that offers a better chance of actually getting a good shot at the deer you find. Some areas are great at finding deer, but killing one is a different story........ie: I'd rather find less deer and have a better chance of also getting a shot! My opinion is when looking at new country, find areas with limited access and get away from the crowds. Spend alot of time there covering ground on foot in hard to get places and you'd be surprised at how fast you learn the area and find hidden water sources or trail intersections and bedding areas. Also, like bobbyo touched on, don't tell anyone about what you find.......keep it for yourself!
  16. "thats hard to tell Jim, your cuter in person! thats not a very 'complemeting' picture of you" I am cuter in person, my wife really likes my ears though!
  17. Thanks guys. I love sharing our experiences with you all as much as I love experiencing everyone elses through all the stories and pic's, thats what makes this site great! Thanks again, JIM>

  19. Hey Bud.........that's your funniest one yet! Where the heck do you find a pic like that! thats a classic, thanks! Casey........I just want to know which one of them boys do YOU actually think is the CUTE one of the two? Hey Scottyboy, that there takes the cake as the best past season of all congrats to you! JIM>
  20. Thanks. If I had that pic hangin' on the wall, I would have nightmares of huge hairy spiders all the time! I don't like spiders......not even a little bit! JIM>
  21. Hey Casey, I saw you doin' sumthin', but that's not what I thought you were doin'! Alright, these pic's go along with my #1 photo from last year. This just ties in the theme that my trip to Alaska was full of sights and feelings I've never seen or experienced before. First one was when I realized how hard the hunt was going to be and that it was nothing like I had planned, desolate and remote! The spider web meadow, filled with millions of spiders, gave me the willys even though it made for a beautiful pic! JIM>
  22. You are in there.......but actually at about 3 o'clock and you're sleeping next to Christian who's trying to burn holes in the fog with his 15's and Jerry is off to the side of you guys smoking expensive cigars! I remember the sight rather vividly when the fog finally cleared enough to see you guys! Oh yeah, and the rest of the crew was on top of the farthest knoll with their tripods set up around a fire at about 1 o'clock in the pic. Too bad the fog's so thick you can't see it all, but trust me, thats what's going on in that pic! JIM>
  23. Alright...I found the ONE! This pic defines and characterizes my first ever backpack hunt with "Shortpants" aka. Jason Scott. The pic says it all, it was a blast and our feet were stinky! JIM>
  24. Here's one as I sat across the draws from you guys on one of those foggy mornings..........It was worthless!
  25. Great topic Doug, these topics always bring out alot of photos, which is awesome for a photo-nut like myself! I was very fortunate last year and have a whole handful of special moments and picking just one is hard! I'm sure as this thread goes on I will sneak in a few more, but this is the #1 for me! I never thought I would get to hunt Moose, or even kill one for that matter! This pic taken from the video, captures the few moments that will be stuck in my head for the rest of my life! JIM>
