Found some more elk sheds yesterday

Them are some awesome pic's! Hey Josh...in the last pic of your friend, that shed at his foot on the left looks eligible for the "freaks" category. Am I seein' things or did that bull have a tweaked pedicle? Love the post, keep em' coming! JIM>
  2. Has anyone heard whether or not the "Auction" tags have tagged out? JIM>

Nice of G-F to tell everyone its time

Nowhere in that article does it mention about the legality of it. It's not legal to go offroad in some forests, why not inform the public about that also? Those are the guys that upset me most.....breaking the law AND picking up more sheds than I can on foot!

    Zeiss Digital Camera Adapter

Yeah.....this is true, but with most cameras, the lense retracts into itself, this allows enough room to swing the arm away without loosening anything. It has an alignment prong and an easy twist knob to remove the adapter from the scope fast and easily. It's tough when you have a standard tripod "plate" attached to the scope, and have to remove it to attach the scope to the adapter. You have to have another tripod "plate" that you leave on the adapter also. I would just automatically use the adapter, attach the scope, and if you see something then just mount up the camera to the already attached adapter. Once you get in the habit of using it, it probably becomes less of a hassle. I think all adapters pose similar hassles though. JIM>

    Zeiss Digital Camera Adapter

SInce I had it set up, i took some photos...........I am not good at this digiscopin' thing but this is what I cam up with using it. I never take pictures in Digital Zoom but by doing so with my camera it zooms past the black oval that surrounds the pic. I usually just take the pic's like these, and crop the black stuff off later on the computer. BTW...it's windy outside too.....my Outdoorsman's tripod would have sucked with this set-up on it.....A heavy duty tripod is the way to go! Thanks, JIM> This is without any Zoom and just camera. This is with all the Optical Zoom my camera has.....no scope. This is camera hooked up to scope....scope on 20X. This is camera hooked up to scope.....scope on 60X.

    Zeiss Digital Camera Adapter

Alright, I got some pics here. This camera on the setup is a Canon G6, works pretty good, but I don't know any different any digiscopin' I've done has been just holding the camera up to the scope and prayin' it works!

    Zeiss Digital Camera Adapter

Yeah, it works great on it. I've only use it on my Swaro STS 80 and it's the new model scope, not the old grey colored one, but I'm sure it works on all of em'. The hardest part about this adapter is getting it all set up for your camera. You mount the camera to it...adjust all the settings so it sits perfect against the lense of the scope...snap a few pic's to make sure it's all good.....then swivel it outta the way and find a subject to photograph. I used my Outdoorsmans tripod when I tried this set-up. It was too much weight on top of it to use it in any type of wind. I have the Swarovski Bogan and should have used it instead. So, if you have it on a sturdy tripod, it'll work great. JIM> I will try to get some pic's of it attched to my scope.........I just have to find a second camera...
  8. Check this out, i have done it 5 times and it has read my mind every time! I cannot figure out how it works......but , just click on the link and follow the directions. http://www.learnenglish.org.uk/games/magic...her-central.swf

    Spotting Scope ?'s

Hey C+S, thanks for the tip! I've played around with that knob but never thought to do that! I also have the Zeiss camera adapter........that is one heavy chunk of metal! It works awesome though, extremely sturdy and well built! I hardly ever use it, because the scope is heavy enough.......and to throw this adapter in the pack adding another 100lbs......no thanks! I have used it twice that I can think of when I first bought it, and it is still in mint condition if anybody wants it? I think I paid over $300 bones for it and it never gets used....I will post it soon in the classifieds soon. now that i think about it.....that wasn't such a good sales pitch Aside from the weight, it is an awesome adapter

    Monster Bobcat!

Hey...has anyone seen that lifesize critter in the "Road Kill" restaraunt in Seligman? I've always thought that was a Jaguar, it looks just like that Jag in those pic's I posted. It is an old mount, but maybe it's a Leopard? JIM>

    Spotting Scope ?'s

I've got the Swaro STS 80 HD and feel it's the best on the market, BUT I wish I had gotten the ATS (angled). With an angled scope you can keep your tripod at a lower setting creating alot more stability when supporting the weight of a scope....especially with these lightweight tripods these days and when it's windy. The detail and clarity is outstanding, but it isn't that much different than the 65mm, and probably not worth the extra expense. I'm a Swaro fanatic, but I know the Nikon scope is a great scope, especially for the money. With what you have in mind, I would think the setup SunDevil has described with the 65ED scope, would be your best bet. BUT......if you run into some extra money, or can wait a little bit.....you will never go wrong with Swarovski! JIM>
  17. I have one. I like the size of it compared to some of the older, bulkier electronic calls. The neatest feature is that you can play two sounds simultaneously. You can play a young jackrabbit and have a coyote howling at the same time, or have two bucks fighting and grunt calls at the same time. They have alot of great sound chip combinations, and variety. I do have to say, even though it does sound good, I haven't had that great of success with it, but I know poeple that have. You just have to make sure you're in a good, low pressure area, and approach your stand as low key as possible......I've gotten lazy in my older age and am sure my lack of success is a result! Great product though! JIM>

    What was Jim Zumbo thinking???

As far as this Zumbo ordeal, I feel really sorry for him and what he's goin' through. As Lark said, I also believe there has to be zero tolarance for any negative publicity about any firearm and you have to stay as firm and vigilant as the opposition. You give in a little, they will take advantage of the weekness and run with it. It is unfortunate it was Mr. Zumbo that this happened too, but I also feel everything happens for a reason, maybe this incident may be the starting foundation for Jim to bring to the general public all the things he, himself, has been unaware of this whole time. Hopefully his new ambitions of studying and learning the common uses and advantages of "black" guns, has a positve affect on the issues and ideals surrounding these weapons! I wish him luck in his new found goals! JIM>

    What was Jim Zumbo thinking???

Best of luck with the fishin'.........by the way Tony, thanks for the book! I had my fingers crossed and hoped that was the prize with MY name on it, now I can take my old, beaten up, scribbled on, paperback and put it away.....replacing it with this one! Thanks, JIM>

    40% less elk/antelope applicants!

This I guess is still just a rumor, but a buddy of mine called G+F today, got directed to several people, and finally got a lady who appearantly knew statistics about the draw so far. She told him the permits were NOT down 50%. She said there were around 51,000 apps TOTAL for elk and antelope, as opposed to 86,000 last year. My buddy is trust worthy, but I didn't hear it for myself. I don't know where the 50% came from, but if this info above is true.........I'm excited! JIM> p.s. I also feel sorry for the people who cannot afford the price increases, that part sucks.......but as far as the people who didn't know about the early draw...that category might be full of those people who sit on the fence every year and really don't care if they draw or not, and don't pay attention much to current changes. Elk Call?

Hey Christian, there's a ton of good bugles on the market, I like Primos brand though.....like the Terminator. It takes some practice but sounds real good when you get it mastered.....I would reccomend getting Chappell's instructional calling CD with it......he'll have some at his booth at the ISE show and for probably better prices. There is more to the bugle than you would imagine when used while calling. I rarely bugle....usually only for locating purposes before light or shortly after. I have had hunts though where the bulls would only respond to bugling and it can be tricky learning when this is or isn't the case, sometimes they'll just grab up their cows and move out if you bugle. On one of the hunts last year, there was very little rutting activity, the bulls were with cows and bugled very little. After several attempts to sneak in and cow call, the bulls would grab their harem and move off. I finally got REAL aggressive, running and bugling at the same time, breaking branches as I went and really emphasized to this one bull that I was going to kick his butt. He had cows and tried moving them out but decided to stand his ground. The hunter and I made it to less than 30 yrds on the opposite side of a cedar from this bull, for an honest 8-10 minutes just absolutely screaming at each other! We couldn't get a shot through the tree but the bull finally realized he had to make the next move and stepped out presenting the shot! It was the most exciting confrontation I've had because of the extreme close range screaming the bull and I did at each other for that long. I even tore the diaphram call I was using because of the intense bugles I threw at him! That is just one example of how the bugle can be used but it doesn't work like that all the time, only on hard to call bulls that are already with their cows and also in thick flat cedar country it works best because you have to avoid the critters seeing you run in! You will learn the info and the call fast....you just gotta get out there and start the long road of trial and error.......that's where you will get good at it! Best of luck, JIM>
