That is so right on . Now just substitute the word "anti" for "animal rights activist " and and the word "hunter" for the name of any other animal use group and you'll be getting real close to where I am coming from .

I didnt start this thread and I didnt reply to it with intentions to flame it . I replied because animal rights is something that I hate . I feel that animal rights is a very steep and slippery slope .I was hoping to cause some to think about things a little deeper and see a little bigger picture of where our sport is as most of the world sees it . I can see the differnce in animal fighting and hunting , I just think its a smaller difference than most of you care to admit . The animal rights activists understand small differences very well and have used them most suceesfully with thier divide and conquer stategy . We have been our own worst enemy in many cases by not being more inclusive and sticking up for each others rights . When groups like PETA or The Humane $ociety Of the United $tate$ go after trappers or hound hunters or spring bear hunters or hog doggers or pigeon shooters or ciruses or rodeos or so called canned hunters or what ever other animal use group they could single out , too many times too many hunters who did not participate in that activity have stood by and did nothing .We are losing our rights thru incrementalism one small group at a time .In the U.S. only 6 percent of the population hunts and that number seems to be declining. We need allies and we should make them by supporting other animal use groups and opposing all animal rights laws . It seems to me that animal rights grew out of animal welfare laws and thats why I would gladly take us back to no animal laws.Make no mistake H$U$ is very rich and powerful and they are our biggest enemy . Vicks case which I think way to big of deal has been made of has only increased thier wealth and power . This is not good news , they are coming after us and more wealth and power means its going to be harder for us to fend them off . I gotta sign off for now but I hope we can continue to discuss this . First ,I would like to extend sincere sympathy to your nephew .I hope he has recovered from this terrible attack. Of course killing this dog was justifiable , although in hindsight you probaly should have killed the dog by shooting it thru the heart and saving the brain for rabies analysis. What if the dog had just nipped the boy ? Would killing the dog still be justifiable ? What if it had only snapped at him ? Justifiable? What if it had growled at him ?....Justifiable? What about if you just didn't like the way it looked at him ?... Justifiable? What about if you knew the boy would soon be spending a lot of time around and you just didnt want to take chances? Would you be justified in a preemptive killing of the dog? Have you ever hunted any animal that didn't have split hooves? Did you consume them ?

Is dog fighting brutal ? Yea , but what is tieing a razor to a stick and poking it thru a deer ? As for legal , I'm not talking about legal , abortion is legal but I think it is much more wrong to kill an unborn human than a souless dog.

It is a sport , a blood sport and hunting is a blood sport, too. I do not now nor have I ever owned any fighting dogs and I have never seen a dogfight but it doesnt effect me if others do and most of the people howling the loudest about how terrible Vick is are the same ones who would stop all hunting tomorrow if they could and that would effect me . Vicks biggest enemies in this are our (hunters) biggest enemies and I will not support our enemies . I see no justice in taking a mans liberty for what he does with his personal livestock.

try several different brands you might find one it likes . I have an 06 that shows a very definite affection for hornady 165 gr lt mag , so thats all I feed her. Also make sure she is clean , a dirty rifle wont perform well .

300 weatherby is a great rifle and a great caliber. Mine is a bit on the heavy side and yes it does have some recoil, but the upside is suberb accuracy ,trajectory , and energy . If you could only have one rifle it wouldnt be a bad choice. I love mine.

My list would start with 243 on the small end and would call the 257 weatherby just about perfect. I will carry 3006 or 300 wby this year.

I read somewhere the other day that deer see yellows better than they see reds and that if you hunt in a place where you must wear hunter orange , a darker red orange is better than a lighter more yellow orange.
